Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell are the two movies that started the Cyberpunk trend. GITS will never be forgotten.

That’s not the reason why Motoko had existential crisis tho. The main reason was that Motoko became unsure about if her brain is really organic human brain and not robotic, the only organ that she used to know as originally from her human past. So the movie’s core idea is not about how our technology is advanced and changed our natural habits but it’s about the very nature of human perception of the reality and how our consciousness is fluid and loose can be.

Dude, nobody has forgotten about Ghost in the Shell. Why do you always have to pretend that any anime which isn't One Piece or Naruto is some forgotten masterpiece.

Note in Ghost in the Shell the common brain inplants replace all the functions in our cell phone better thus not having them in story not an error. The actual phones and payphone are for those who refuse to be wired in although those who are wired in use them for avoiding being hacked in transmitting voice and other data.

It’s not forgotten. Cyberpunk as a genre is more or less aestetichly and also plott based on GIS and film noir. That is GIS is film noir based in a highly robotic future. All science fiction creators are obsessed with GIS and Bladerunner. And for a good reason. They look fucking awesome. And they are profetic in how humans interact with tech.

Bro, Ghost in the Shell is one of the most Well-known Anime films Ever. It's not obscure in the slightest, Even people who are not fans of Anime have seen this Movie. But I do agree that this Film has predicted the future in some way

This is dumb on my part but there is a movie called Elysium. It's about something completely different but ,but one of the issues that The Major has is about her humanity and she is not sure if she really is human or if there is more to being a human. So a human is in a human body and has thoughts, but she is not sure if in the cyborg body if she is still really human since she was basically manufactured, made in a lab, and then they gave her original brain to this new cyborg. I don't believe she is able to recall her past life when she was all human and the reason why she is still able to "live" is because she is inside of this cyborg body. Now in this new body she has new thoughts and she is not sure if these are her own thoughts or thoughts that are shared/influenced by others when she taps into the network and the whole ghost hacking thing where people believe that they have lived an entirely different life by what others have shown them. In a way this happens to some other characters as well and also happens in the second movie as well. Anyway the connection I'm trying to make, is if there was a way to get her original human body back would she do it? In Ghost in the shell they are focused more on cyborg parts, but in stuff like Blade Runner that type of stuff is black market stuff that is frowned upon from my understanding. In stuff like Elysium while you can get body augmentations, they aren't really needed since you can just fix yourself, if you're rich. So if they were able to fix this brain and give it back it's original human form how would she react? Would she feel even more lost now that she is a human? Would she feel even more like a fish out of water since she would no longer be able to "tap in"? She would be able to go swimming freely now. You also have those one twin in Invincible who are just clones but they work in a way where they can't tell who the original one is and they want to keep it that way. So some of the themes in Ghost in the Shell are present in other mediums and you could even say that in other worlds the stuff from ghost in the shell are solved but new issues arise. One of the core features of ghost in the shell could also be summoned as if, what if you woke up one day and had amnesia, but then it goes a step further by your brain now being in a robot. You do have situations in Doom Patrol where one of the characters had an accident and is now now a brain inside of a robot, but unlike The Major he is able to remember his past, he is not able to connect to a network but you also see him just spent years contemplating his life since he no longer has needs that normal people have, he is no longer able to function as a human. On top of that he also has Parkinson's so there is that. All of this is me oversimplifying stuff by a lot since it goes way beyond that and yeah.
