As a Ghost fan, I respect your opinion, and I watch for your breakdown of the song. We don't hate on you man, but we all saw your head bobbing. That is what Ghost was going after. The reason why your Ghost reactions have the highest viewership is because Ghost fans are open minded to possible dissenting opinions.
@SynphamyMusic

"dissenting opinions"... Your opinion isn't better than anyone else's. It's comical that you started by saying you respect opinions and then go on to suggest other opinions are somehow inferior. Way to contradict yourself.

@@frokghug a dissenting opinion is one that disagrees with the majority. I just thought it was a weird term to use in the same sentence as saying fans are open minded, as if being open to disagreement is somehow worthy of a pat on the back. That's how it came across to me anyway. Being a fan of Ghost doesn't make you special or more open minded than anyone else, that was my point.
@frokghug
@frokghug 2 жыл бұрын
@@SynphamyMusic calling an opinion a dissenting one is not a negative thing. It would be stupid to say you are open minded to ideas as long as they fit the norm… to say you are open to dissenting opinions means you are willing to hear opinions other than those that may normally be held and is not contradictory at all. If anything it shows more open mindedness. Again, saying an opinion is dissenting is not a negative thing, just a fact. Your original point was not that ghost fans aren’t special it was that he contradicted himself. Being a ghost fan I feel probably has little to do with it but regardless don’t walk back your argument because it no longer fits

I think the sound landscape of it is cool (although there are better examples of this on Prequelle) it has a cool concept and a good chorus (that is repeated too much for it to be great but still). Its a fine pop song and giving it a 3 because its simple or poppy is harsh. All subjective though.

song is about black death. here are some infos about song; “Dance Macabre” talks about the Black Death, and how the pandemic killed thousands of people in a matter of days. The presence of death in every corner left everyone living like there’s no tomorrow; Europe was in a macabre dance. The song title is a reference to Camille Saint-Saëns “Danse macabre”, a tone poem for orchestra, that has the presence of the tritone, which was known as the Devil in music during the Medieval eras. What have the artists said about the song? Europe was in this turmoil in the late 1340s. The plague is extremely fast. It starts off as the worst flu you’ve ever had and then it just goes worse and then you’re dead after three days. So people were lying in the streets - corpses and all the surroundings were just falling apart. All the brothels and pubs were thriving because people started partying literally like there was no tomorrow because they were gonna die. They were just going for it. “Dance Macabre” is capturing that joyous nocturnal sort of life in a disco song. The Black Death is estimated to have killed 30-60% of Europe's total population. In total, the plague may have reduced the world population from an estimated 450 million down to 350-375 million in the 14th century. It took 200 years for the world population to recover to its previous level. when i first heard song i didnt know what it was about, then after some researching about song i found out it was about black death and that completely change the way i look at song. makes you think about life... imagine you get sick and then have only few days of life left....

Ghost fans are not bad, edgy Ghost fanboys are. "ooooh they are so satanic OMG i am so brutal because i like their song". Those fanboys probably know like 10 most popular and mainstream songs, that makes them in their opinion hardcore. So, as a fan, tell me what do you think about last album? IMO after almost whole band left, they lost that evil, creepy and doomish style that made them very interesting and unique. This album sounds more...pop-ish. "It's A Sin" cover sounds great tho

Dance Macabre is so lovely, Ghost has always been, imo, the baby of ABBA and Black Sabbath (Black sABBAth?), and the album as a whole seems to have a strong "Black Plague" concept (and their previous albums were subtly concept albums as well) while swerving deeper into their ABBA side. I think that's actually really cool, going thematically darker while going sonically lighter. That being said, please get in some King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. I'm a big Ghost fan and I love your reactions and talks about what you think the meaning of the different ghost songs you listen to :) I believe that some of the more negative comments in the Ghost videos are coming from some people that feel you are missing something (that you may have to read about to know beforehand). If you listen to interviews with unnamed gouls from the band it's always the singer and bandleader behind the mask and the song Zenith you are talking about is credited to both Tobias and one of the guitarist. The song in this video is a 80s inspired song that is following a theme from a whole album so listening to it without the full context makes it so much weaker!

Oh man, the Carpenter Brut remix is great, as is that other suggestion though I'd like to see them do some of the darker sounding Ghost songs because currently they seem the think of Ghost as very poppy and they've only really been doing that sound for the last two albums.

Vin, this is the same guy who wrote every other Ghost songs lyrics. Ghost also doesn't really get much in the way of air time on the radio. The only songs I've ever heard from Ghost on the radio is Circe, From the Pinnacle to the Pit, and Rats which is the single from this album they first released on the radio, so I'm not sure how this is a "poppy money grab song." If that were the case, wouldn't he pick this song as the first single? Since the entire album is about plague, "you'll soon be hearing the chime" could also refer to the corpse carts that would collect the bodies of the dead. They'd chime a bell and walk the streets yelling "bring out your dead" and you'd throw your loved ones into the heap of bodies on the back of the cart to be disposed of after they'd died of plague. Not just a Monty Python bit.

Aww, I'm a Ghost fan and I like you two. : ) The lyrics that Tobias Forge writes (and I believe that's all of them except for the covers) are usually about more than one thing. This one is about the Black Plague and Dancing with Death, as well as being a poppy love song. It's cool if it didn't work for you, but the contrast is deliberate.

So as a rebuttal to that comment you choose to attack his personal beliefs. He didn’t attack any of you personally. He called out the the way some people spoke to him. And you responded with that.

To be honest I am a bit disappointed that Vin, who is normally very firm on theologic stuff, doesn't interpret more into "dance macabre" here. Hear me out: Yes, the song at first glance is poppy and 80's sounding and seems commercial and shallow, but that probably is just the thing Forge wants here to push that superficial impression of party and fun. The whole album Prequelle plays around with the theme of death, 14th century black plague (and also is a diss album to his former ensemble members), and during that time in Europe, with Death waiting around the corner, many people turned to religion but also tried to live life to the fullest, with dance and love and party. Memento Mori was the thing, as many "death dance" pictures in churches, books and so on from that time show. So at first glance Forge wrote a song sounding like an 80's party where two people dance for one last time. At second glance while the song sounds happy and shallow, the topic is not, and maybe the person he or she dances with is not another human, but Death or the angel of Death itself. I personally think the song is trying to capture the feeling you get when a good thing is ending, like the end of of a party, of a concert, of a movie and so on. You don't want it to end, but you know it is inevitable, so you enjoy it up to that last moment, but with a grain of sadness. That feeling projected on a human life. He/she knows the end is coming, and he/she accepts it, but feels melancholic that this is the last dance, the last happy moment. It is just that thing with Ghost, you can go shallow or dive in really deep. Lots of references and innuendos. Think of a similar poppy song from Bon Jovi or Def Leppard... you never have this deep topics lingering in the background. Don't get me wrong, Ghost is a band aiming for commercial success and Prequelle is probably more commercial and less heavy than some fans hoped for, me included, but I have to give Forge credit for at least trying to give food for thought and deeper meaning with each song. :)

Love this band. This song is so catchy. It’s Darkness masked in happy 80’s Metal. Ghost are very creative with lyrics. Even when they are minimal. I saw you Vin bobbing your head. (vin thinking song is trash and doesn’t like it...continues to bob his head to the song. Ghost -1 Vin -0) If you haven’t yet, check out the official video. Shows a lot of people from Kirk of Metallica to M. Shadows from A7X to Chris Jericho and others. The Ghoul IS Tobias. This song was their radio friendly song. Every band has to have at least 1 song that is radio friendly, right? So yes, formulaic.

Their albums are sonically themed. 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. I haven’t listened to them lately so I can’t speak towards their newer music. After the whole identity fiasco I stopped giving Tobias any attention. He made such a big deal about it then turned around and started doing interviews out of character. No wonder people quit the band.

This song came across my the radio station that my son left on when he used my car and it has not left my head since then. The tune reminds me of the old 80’s hair rock band I used to listen growing up. Once I learned the lyrics it was like a slapped in the face to think I was singing along to a witch craft song. It sucked me in the way it did when I was metal head back then, it’s very deceptive. Deceived with a melody and beat. Lol. The enemy is still at it. He is doing what he does well, music is what he was before his fall n still is. Kudos to you both to bring this to light.
