It sounds like he got to the final boss and did not beat it yet, you can't damage the boss with other weapons than the shield and it puts you back at the start of the level. However, the real fun part is that when you actually do beat the final boss, the game sends you back to the start of the game and you have to do all the levels all over again, with faster enemies. A full loop of the entire game

@@Bladieblah He definitely killed the final boss. As you say, it sends you back to the beginning, but says to do it with shields.

@@Mickparrysstepdad You start with shields on the second loop but you don't have to do the entire game with shields, you can just get the knife (early hopefully) and change to shields before the final stage. Game is still tough as hell, the faster speed on the second run changes so much

@@Bladieblah yes. I've seen a guy beat ghost n goblins game in 1988 using only two lives, doing the whole loop and so on. All the games back then used to be quite hard and this one was specially tough than hell.

The SNES game is basically a different game altogether. There were other games like that, it was like a SNES signature thing, having new entries from known franchises specially designed for the console and putting the "Super" on front of the title as the only distinctive element to tell them apart from other games in the same sagas. It was a bit confusing at times, admittedly.

@@oscarjimenezgarrido7591 I think SNES was the easy one less random monster and lots easy to know what going to happen next. But that holy gems was so bad in SNES it was so small and did not go very far. Your one it is big and goes lots far.
