The loudest ones in the room are usually the super geek fans who have their own idea of perfect film. I’m a super fan myself but me and my 15 yr old daughter have thoroughly enjoyed Afterlife and Frozen Empire. My daughter thinks they are genuinely hilarious. I was in the theater with a few young kids and they didn’t get all the jokes but they were totally into the adventure aspect of the film. It’s just great family sci fi and those old guys that insist on an original cast film just have to adjust.

@JasonDeline - Right and phoebe melted the pole down etc... Ray explains how the containment unit can trap him and they tell him to shut up and just do it.

I was gonna respond "it didn't have to be her, it had to be some ghost the Garaka couldn't control, but a human has to say the words, so it had to be a willing human or a living human body with its spirit out so Garaka could control it blah blah blah" but then I remembered Melody's "Why does it have to be her?" line which is obviously what you were asking about, and now I have the same question... So... maybe because it had to be someone with access to the research center, and Troubled Teen is the best candidate?

Re read the description. I have seen the film 3 times. Phosphor was not in the film. And the blue ghost with sharp teeth that nearly breaks out of the black tank does not feature in the production notes. Think someone has said it’s called me bones or something to that effect t. My theory? When doing re shoots and final edits they cut phosphor and added the unnamed ghost. One possible reason was to help hide Bill Murray from the PRC intro scene while adding another scary ghost to the film. I’m pretty sure the production designer mentions Phosphor to Adam Savage in the set tour video of the paranormal research centre and shows a tank that’s totally different to any seen in the film. That would also explain the black tank video malted to all the others as you’re essentially covering up a ghost and tank enclosure with blackness and a new ghost design.

That's really interesting. My instinct is to say "there are no scenes I would cut," but the way you frame it is interesting: "what scenes/characters would you cut to make space for more scenes with the rest of the cast?" So... as much as I loved Patton Oswalt's character, I'd cut him and give his scenes to Ray, Podcast, and Phoebe. I loved Kumail Nanjiani's character and performance, but I'd cut his character and give his gear to Callie or Gary and make the ancient ghostbusting be gear-based instead of inherited powers. Then I'd do a montage in the middle with Gary/Callie/Trevor out on calls while depressed Phoebe is back home tinkering with gear, bonding with Melody, and running experiments on the Ionic Separator.

However, the major notes are: * Extend the Run-Time * Limit Kumail Nanjiani's character to a cameo of finding and delivering the orb. * Limit Patton Oswalt's character in the main runtime to a name drop * Have Patton Oswalt's character's send Ray a copy of the recording * Discover the recording contains the Unsealing Spell... and later in the recording (and later in the movie)... discover the sealing spell is on the recording. (Which reactivates the Mystical Sphere Trap) * Use the recording to free Garraka... allow Phoebe's romance to be just that... a teenager thing * Have Garraka's horns be in a museum display * Have the Mystical Sphere Trap to fail to trap... only bind due to the recording being incomplete... have Melody reinforce the Mystical Trap so the end scene containment can go as is * Add a Callie/Gary romantic scene * Add a Gary/Trevor both get slimmed by Slimer as Gary tries to bond with Trevor * Swap the post-credit for Trevor naming Slimer (start of friendship) * Add a post credit scene with Patton Oswalt's character on the phone with Ray about realizing what happened and says he knows that the Guardian who sealed Garraka back in the 1920's had a journal indicating their linage may have been the ones who killed Vigo (as a human) and wasn't in NYC for the Garraka originally... teasing that either another movie OR something which justifies Ghostbusters being back in business (since the 80's movies established that these big multiverse beings / spells tapping into that magic only leave hauntings in the area for a short period after the fact.) I would still have another character be the key to using the Sealing spell with the Mystical Sphere Trap. I would tie them to the Museum robbery of Garraka re-obtaining the horns. I would have Mystical Sphere Trap land in Kumail Nanjiani's character's hands and be implied to have happened before the events of the movie and be the start of NYC hauntings. I would not have a Fire Bender save the day. Instead, I would NOT introduce a new character to be the Act 3 solution but instead add an existing character in the mythos to serve as both the spell caster to perform the sealing and tie into musuem robbery. The who should be obvious as it would add an amazing dynamic to the Peter introgration scene. (I still need to underline that I enjoyed the movie. However, if I am going to play devil's advocate and try to raise the opinions of Critics... that's my hot take.)

@@ghostbusterscollector8593 yeah, I really thought the Library ghost was going to just be in Ray's head as one of his biggest fears, and then Garraka, the frosty Freddy Krueger, can freeze him.

She's a teenager! The whole interaction with Melody is full of teen romanic vibes. Phoebe is an odd duck which any of us other odd ducks can confirm... teenage years in terms of romance and hormones made us all consider doubting ourselves and trying to do what ever it takes to impress who we want to be with. No matter how dumb that is. I don't understand how in this film when the lead teenage does something that will risk the whole world for romance is being challenged but being a trope in so many movies were its brushed off as normal behavor.

@@UncannyGirl I agree, though I feel like it would be in her character to test it first, or maybe we see the researchers already running experiments on separating spirits from possessed rats or birds (maybe it fails to pull out the spirit, but we see it's a non-fatal process, so she uses her smarts to tweak the settings to make it work?)

I wouldn't say it's terrible, but I don't think it's a good film. I just found it very mediocre and forgettable. It isn't funny. It isn't scary. It's filled with a bunch of characters which I couldn't give a xxxx about. It has a convoluted and confusing plot. Overall I just found it a very bland and boring experience. I hope Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan aren't given the opportunity to touch Ghostbusters again, not even with a ten metre cattle prod.

That's so lame.
