21:22 I thought the freezing of New York would take place way earlier in the movie. It doesn't last long once it happens.

Yeah, I would cut that opening flashback and the animated Garraka backstory, add more of seeing people affected by the freeze, more jokes, smoother edits, and a more complicated ending. It was fun, but feels a few passes away from a final script. The emotional beats were rushed and unearned, and Callie and Gary felt more like siblings than lovers. Luckily Aykroyd brings so much heart you can't help but smile.

Yeah, the first two acts dragged a bit. It felt like the story didn’t have any direction with it trying to keep up with all its characters. The third act when Garraka finally shows up felt anti-climatic with how much build up he got.

To be fair, all the other movies have a quick third act/resolution. gb - Stay Pufft is pretty much there for 12 mins, including all of Gozer... Gb2 - Vigo and the Liberty march was at best 5 mins GbAL - the Gozer chase and trap farm... abother 6-9 mins These are 'feel good' horror-comedy movies...

Just want to comment that I was one of the prop makers on this and the whole team is pretty disappointed that Sony chose to cut us entirely from the credits, apparently they wanted to keep them short but we don't accept that, there is a mid credits gag clip that ads nothing to the story nor sets up another film, we were all for the most part fans of the franchise and loved working on this and were extremely disappointed they couldn't find the space for us in the credits especially with that nothing mid credits scene, many of us have not had any film or TV work since due to the strikes and it's a real morale drain after all we've been through and all the extra hours we put in to be dismissed by Sony, whenever we had guests on set they were shown the props, this film was promoted on props and this film relied heavily on it's action props, yet Sony saw fit to dismiss our contribution to the film

I'm more encouraged hearing this review. The other reviews so far have not been kind, but some of that could be sour grapes over 2016 and also from people who aren't particularly Ghostbuster fans but just movie reviewers. Where Ghostbusters is concerned, I'd rather hear from fans of the franchise. Chances are if they enjoyed it I probably will too.
@knightsofgbs9524

@TheMightyKongthe problem with that is the critics are still mad that the 2016 is not being continued, so they won't say it like they did the last time with afterlife however they'll continue to give any ghostbusters films moving forward bad or mixed reviews. Which is fine. People who pay to see films are the reason if films continue to get made or not, not critics.
@Alexinytown
@Alexinytown 4 ай бұрын
@TheMightyKong Disney spectacularly failed with that approach to Star Wars. The fans wanted one thing and they got something else that no one really cared for. Arguably they tried that with 2016 and that failed as well.

Yeah the final "battle" was kind of quick for all that build up. Also it basically copied and pasted the final battle from afterlife as far as scenes go. Maybe they should have let all the ghosts out and had fights with GB2 ghosts again before the end, something to make the end a bit more epic.

Totally went in with an open mind. And I felt that Dan Murrell's review was pretty much spot-on. Wasn't bad, but felt uninspired. To me, it felt almost like they used too early of a version of the script that wasn't properly fleshed out and properly edited.

@flybriur
@flybriur 4 ай бұрын
@mrjermz5406 Lighthearted is totally fine. I have no problem with that. Unfortunately, things dragged on too long and took too long to set up, for example. Also, the "Phoebe and friend" aspect of the film felt like it was shoehorned into the larger overall plot - that either needed to be reworked, or to be honest, it could have been completely cut out, and to further the plot would have taken just a bit of tweakinf. Also, some characters were very underutilized, such as Podcast, Trevor, Lucky, and Dr. Wartzki. To me, overall, the general story and elements of the script could have made a great movie, I just felt it was too sloppily written and put together. The difference between a good and bad script can be just taking the same aspect, plot point, etc, but being able to better and more efficiently set up/inform the audience. For example, an important character trait can be creatively and smartly shown visually to the audience for only 10-20 seconds vs. having to use 3-5 minutes of dialogue to achieve the same thing.
@HockeyRiveNord
@HockeyRiveNord 3 ай бұрын
To me, they got the tone right, and the humour. Not slapstick, and clever jokes and banter. Where they missed : - too many characters, keep Lucky as background character, Trevor to college, and Poscast stays in Oklahoma, which would fuel Pheobe's feeling of isolation. - more night scenes, catching a ghost in daytime is okay, but all of the movie is during the day... - the animated portion was out of place... - the concept depicted in said animation is meh to me... the GB franchise establishes a scientific-basis for ghosts and manifestations, which this movies kinda removes... Not bad, 7/10 but not the best GB movie either.

@@DanMilanoIt seems to be the case. The review criticism are not uniform but polarized with a tendency to dislike. So this means the film isn't necessary a bad film for Ghostbusters fans. My only gripe was that the promo shots aren't scenes in the movie, no Paul Rudd and the red jacket ,there are alot of storylines all going on and some details are left out ,it would of been better with an army of the dead decending on the firehouse,with battles outside in a frozen over New York, it was over too quickly at the end ,Bill Murray and Ernie should of had more lines,and Slimer should of had more presents But it was still a fun movie.

Saw it twice today back to back. Wasn't a huge fan of the Phoebe/ghost friend thing but it wasn't terrible. Just felt a little flat but it made sense since Phoebe was feeling left out and the ghost had their own reasons for being there. Also wow, all of the cut and alternate scenes from the trailers. Was pretty surprising, but I'm sure there will be an extended cut on Bluray and of course I'll preorder it asap. Overall none of my criticisms are big and I walked out really enjoying it both times and I can't wait to see it again! Side note: I feel like there was a Real Ghostbusters nod with Peck's comment "Maybe she can be a Junior Ghostbuster and hand out stickers". Maybe, maybe not, but it did immediately remind me of the Junior Ghostbusters from RGB.

I watched the movie, while I enjoyed the most parts and I love all the nods to the OG films but I feel that the final basket is not long enough and the scale of it is too small, like huge thunder but only droplets of rain.with so many Ghostbusters they could’ve make them into small groups to fight “army of ghosts” as mentioned in the trailer, not stand in a firing squad position with fancy new packs (of no real functional change). It could’ve been better but it’s certainly a worthy sequel, and I just hope we get to see more of the new generation! I give it 7/10. And really great review. ❤ I enjoyed it a lot.

I'm torn on the movie. The effects were done really well and the movie looks overall really good. I had a few issues with certian points. Especially they way Phoebe and her new friend come off, although i may have read too far into it. Then theres the fact we get this newly upgraded equipment and its pretty much there for esthetic purposes only. My final gripe was it felt so slow until the third act then it feels like it went into warp drive. Now i really did like that the addition of the Paranormal Research Center and the fact that the containment unit in the firehouse has a limit to how much it can hold. Thats a neat idea along with the flyimg drone trap. Also i was a huge fan of having Janine do more than answer phones. If i had to be honest though, I'd have to give it a 5.5 out of 10. Its not the worst, but i personally didn't think it was as strong as 3 of the 4 movies that preceeded it.

It’s missing something. I have been a ghostbusters fan my entire life. And Ghostbusters 1 and 2 and Afterlife felt special but this lacked a spark. They spend to much time focused on a single characters development and their coming of age story when neither were needed. It’s a movie that leaves you wondering what could have been. The main villain is cool pun intended but they are given no time to shine despite being built up as a ghost to end all ghosts. The movie begins slow and ends to fast. A lot of the film felt like a throw away just to fill a few minutes. Oh how i wanted to love it but im disappointed and left asking oh what could have been.

Absolutely love the franchise as it was the first film I saw in the cinema as a kid but having just left the theatre after seeing Frozen Empire I can’t help but feel slightly underwhelmed. The first 2 acts were really slow paced but to be fair the third act saved the whole thing in my opinion. Ultimately I loved taking my kids to see it and we all had a blast and that’s the name of the game so to end on a positive already looking forward to the next one. Quality content as always Jason. 👻

I saw it in IMAX, tonight. Very enjoyable. If I saw this when I was 5 or 6, parts of it would scare me. I love that. I agree that James Acaster (whom I love), should had had more scenes. Dan Aykroyd is great in this. The scene with Podcast is brilliant.

Watched it in D-Box seats yesterday despite reserving seats tonight because T-Mobile gave out a $5 voucher for it as part of their T-Mobile Tuesdays deals (which was a GREAT deal because D-Box seats are $19 at my theater, so only paying $5 was a STEAL) - the experience was AMAZING, like something out of a theme park! The seats moved along with the ecto-mobile, jolted with every strike of lightning, and shook and vibrated with the proton streams!! It definitely added to the movie, but it also made me leave the theater wishing that there was a Ghostbusters ride, lol Also! My Cinemark had the Slimer Icee!! Alongside the reusable plastic cup with the suited up mascot, Slimer, and the Mini Pufts! Happy to get it, as my family loves to collect memorabilia cups :) Overall, I thought the movie was good, even if it felt like they left a chunk on the cutting room floor - hopefully the Blu-Ray has the deleted scenes! Could've been better, but it's not Terrible, so that's nice. I think I like Afterlife more as it is, as it seemed like they just had too many characters to juggle in this one. Wished we saw more of New York frozen! All that being said, my favorite scene was Venkman messing with the Fire Master - Peter's just Really Good at getting people to get mad at him, lol

Has a mix of the other 3 films tone wise imo. And had elements of each. I was in the camp you referred to with Nadeem. Whilst I did enjoy his character I'm not sure about his amount of involvement especially at the end. Also I kind of feel Emily's character could have been come at from a different direction. It wasn't bad but kinda had scooby doo vibes a tad. Same result could of been done but just by doing it a little differently visually and character wise. Oh yeah and I agree with the 3rd act. Wish Garraka caused more devastation before the final showdown. But overall I still really enjoyed it. It's hard to take everything in when your so excited so I look forward to seeing it again. 😊

I just saw the first English screening on opening day in France and it was great. I loved everything about it. Definitely felt like one of many “episodes” that I hope we will be getting ala RGB. I love how it felt like a mix of old school GB action and comedy as well as the more emotional dynamic that we saw in afterlife. It really worked for me and I look forward to a rewatch this weekend.

With all the characters, I feel like Paul Rudd didn't get to shine. Paul Rudd as a GB is absolute gold! Also, we could have cut out the 1904 stuff and provided more buildup and payoff of Garaka would have helped. Draw out the peril of the whole "our proton packs don't work!" way more. I think that would help!

The ghost/human plot line was ackward at best, and not really well thought out it felt like the writters were like ok we wrote ourselves into a corner with our own rules how do we get out of this. If you stop and think about all those scenes they all feel like the were shot after the fact during reshoots as the dialog is minimal the sets are minimal and your just kinda left to fill in the blanks on why the character feels they way they do to do what they do. Its feels very disjointed from the rest of the movie. Over all it wasnt terriable Pauls dialog was kinda boring and didnt really do much for the story almost like he was talking to an empty room "nudge nudge" but his acting was good and id say he didnt really add much but he didnt take anything away either. I did love seeing all the toys and cartoon elements in real life like the motorcycle the arm-band proton cannon the pizza ghost etc... that was definitely a treat, and the use of practical effect especially in the 1st act was terrific and looled great. I'd rank it slighty worse then Afterlife but 100% better then 2016 solid 7/10

Calling it quits on the vid at 9:40. I'll get back to you on my thoughts on the movie tomorrow lol! I got a ticket for a pre-show at the local AMC theater the day before actual street drop date...also one of the like...4 drive-in movie theaters in my state opens up this weekend from the winter season and this movie is one of their weekend opening movies! I haven't been to a movie theater to watch a movie in 15 years or so and I wanna go in as blind as possible. The last movie I saw in theaters was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...up until Dial of Destiny it was considered the worst movie of the franchise so I'm having high hopes that this will wash the bad taste outta my mouth on that and give me a reason to start going to theaters again...only on special occasions though...theater tickets and snacks are NOT cheap.

Your review could have been my review. I enjoyed the hell out of it and it was more darker in places than I imagined it would be which was a great revelation. The new big bad is fantastic and the standout funniest character is definitely Kumail Nanjiani. He just tickled me every time he was on screen. I loved Dan Ackroyd too and his exposition which was funny in itself. I did wonder if there was a longer cut of the film as it did seem truncated towards the end ...but maybe that was just me wanting more of it. A stellar movie and a great addition to the franchise. I hope it continues and you know it doesn't need the original characters to be in it anymore. I'm quite happy to see a Ghostbusters movie without them now...maybe them just popping up now and again for old times sake. 8.5 seems a fair score....I'm off to watch it again. There's so much to take in! 😁👍

I saw the movie with my nephew, a few days ago, in the UK. My nephew and I agreed that it was okay as a movie but we didn't love it. We weren't talking about it the following day, which I think is a real shame. My nephew who is 13, still pulls out quotes from the original ghostbusters and that should tell you something. There were some good ideas in the film, but unfortunately, for me, the formula of the film is effectively the some plot as all of the movies. No key master or gatekeeper, but now we have a fire master. Surely we can be more creative here!! As a huge fan of the original movies, I always hoped that when I grew older, they would get around to making another movie where the effects would be amazing, the scares even more scary and the plot seeing new ghostbusters doing all kinds of unusual things. Maybe the effects are better nowadays, but are they wowing us? I would say no. For me, since the the 2016 reboot, the series has literally, lost its soul. I didn't mind afterlife, but it lacked something. Everything feels like it is trying too hard. There is no buzz or excitement and the movies are pretty safe. The sad thing is, this franchise has SO much potential but it seems like the studios don't have the enthusiasm, desire or passion to make a true successor. We need a real-life Gate keeper to over see any future submissions for films in the franchise and implement some kind of quality control. If I could have any director to completely reboot the series, I'd go for Christopher Nolan. The way he moulded Batman into a character that felt like he could exist in the real world was fantastic. Just thinking about a Ghostbusters movie directed by him gives me ghost-bumps. 🙂 And we know that Nolan loves and respects science / physics. I realise that any good franchise or series, needs to move with the times, but it seems like this franchise is going backwards. The Films are now solely aimed at children, but we need the type of film which can appeal to adults and children alike, like the original. Until someone with vision and significant passion for Ghostbusters approaches Sony to make a film, I think we need to leave the series alone. Just my opinion. But I hope the film does well and I hope a new generation are being made to feel how I did when I first saw the original. Oh and one last thing, as a fan, this wasn't made for me. That's fine, but I am curious to know what the target demographic is because the box office results thus far, don't seem to show that the audience has grown significantly, since Afterlife. If Sony are trying to grow the IP, they don't seem to be doing a good job. As I said.....Quality Control is needed.

We went to the first showing locally, at 2 PM today. There were about a dozen people in the theatre ... I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10. Fans of the GB universe will love it. I knocked off a half-point for a major continuity glitch involving Phoebe and . I suspect they may have decided after primary filming to add a scene where Phoebe , but the consequence of that is that is seen time and again later in the film. It may have been that the scene in question was filmed late, and there just wasn't time to fix the rest of the scenes. I suspect we'll find out about it when the Blu-Ray comes out. Take the PG-13 rating seriously. If you have very young children who are easily frightened, you may wish to leave them at home and watch it with them later in home release, where they'll be somewhere familiar. There is one mid-credits scene, but no post-credits scene. Once you've seen the mid-credits scene, you can answer your bladder's call.

Great to be back in NYC and explore the firehouse side of things… however I was wondering what was bugging me all through the film, then I realised… In the original 2 movies, the street scenes were FULL of people. Hundreds and hundreds of crowd members. This film just doesn’t have that. It had such an impact in the first movies when you saw the devastation the stay puft had on all those people… it just feels like they’re cutting costs in that respects now… or they feel like it’s not that important..: What do others think??

I saw Frozen Empire last night. Poor reviews aside, being a Ghostbusters fan it’s hard to tamp down expectations. After watching the film I felt I was pleasantly entertained and figured it was a solid 6.5 out of 10. However, for me it’s one of those movies that sneaks up on you… I keep thinking about it today and on reflection like it more and more. It does have a lot of characters and a lot of stuff in it, but I feel that makes it engineered for repeat viewings. Interestingly enough, I don’t know if you mentioned there was a number of scenes in the previews NOT in the movie- including FX shots. Don’t know if we’ll ever see those in an extended version or if they’ll just remain on the cutting room floor (?) I agree Kumail Nanjiani stole the film, and I could use more of Patton Oswald! Be great to see those two in future installments. I’m already bumping this film up to a 7.5! *SPOILER ALERT* I was not bothered at all by the Ghostbusters receiving help to vanquish the ghost in the end, and didn’t give it a second thought until you mentioned it here. Still does not bother me.

My take: Villain deserved more dwell time on-screen. Same as Evo in Afterlife. Some shots could have been better-chosen. Solid story. Good/great acting. Dialog hit or miss. Great gags. Not really scary for adults but that's expected. Pacing issues in latter part. 7.5/10 Hoping a Director's Cut or Special Edition will give us the 20-30 minutes or so it needed to land solidly as a horror-drama in addition to comedy (which it pulls off.)

I’m not going to pick apart the movie’s flaws. There are plenty of people doing that right now. The best thing I can say about Frozen Empire is that it doesn’t feel like a carbon copy of any of its predecessors. As much as I love the first two Ghost Busters movies, GB2 very much felt as if it were following the map laid out by the original every step of the way. Frozen Empires has plenty of call backs, but it’s going its own way and STILL works. It’s not perfect, but it is a fun Ghost Busters movie that leaves me wanting more. I hope they make another one. The end credits scene was a waste of time, though. I was really hoping for another OG Ghost Busters scene but it’s not there. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can totally skip it if you have to go to the bathroom and not miss anything.

I wouldn't think specifically themed after the movie, but with the cast members we know as a general cartoon would make sense. They did make an announcement years ago around the time of Afterlife coming out that they had video game plans and announced a new animated series as well. They didn't go into depth, they were just announcing different forms of media for the future of Ghostbusters. We have some of the video games and the follow-up movie in NYC they promised at that announcement, now one of the things we're waiting for is the new series.

But over all I loved the film. Noticed the Real Ghostbusters vibes and glad to see others noticing it. Ray was brilliant. Always loved Ray. Had his action figure as a kid. Still have the same one :). That scene when he’s in the shop and sees the Ghostbusters car drive by. And he just looks happy to see they are still around. Oh boy. I loved that scene. Here I am now an adult still watching brand new ghostbusters films. And I had my 2 little ones with me. And they absolutely loved the film. When Pheobe hurts the ice god. They got so excited. As unbiased I would give it 8/10, but since I'm a ghostbusters fan I give it 9/10. I thought it aloud the new cast to take over with just enough of the ogs to ice the cake. I thought all the action was a joyful addition. If I had any nit pick it would be maybe a additional FIRST battle with Garraka with them retreating to gather themselves before the FINAL battle. But with that said. Still everything as a ghostbusters fan, I could ever ask for. Thank you Gil and all the ghost Corp. Continue the story...
