If you listen to "Huey Lewis & The News" - "I Want A New Drug" then you can see where the idea for the Ghostbusters theme came from.

Fun fact. This entire song is a total rip-off of a Huey Lewis And The News tune. It was taken to court and in a decision by a judge it was ruled to be a rip off forcing Parker to pay The News.
