Suit up for classic comedy! Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance, de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. As soon as they open their doors, their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell… right in their own apartment building!

the way Egon awkwardly, clumsily and consistently looks down for his camera mark as he weirdly steps forwards and backwards is pitch-perfect comedic acting. combined with his 10/10 line reading and that great, great writing . . . i mean, how many different ways can i call a thing perfect? it's really, really funny AND tells you everything you need to know about the character in maybe four or five seconds. this movie is a miracle. i can't say enough good things about it this morning.

Costuming details were exceptional in this movie! If you look closely, all 3 lab coats still have square creases like they just came out of their packaging. It makes sense if you think about how the commercial would have been filmed in "real life" but would have been intentional in the movie's production. Those small details hardly are noticeable, but make such a difference in building the world of Ghostbusters.

I was just a wee kiddie growing up in The Bronx when these shots were made on that now famous corner of Varick & North Moore Streets ( For all you tourists looking to find this firehouse, just take the A/C/E trains to the Canal Street Station. At the south end of the Uptown is the staircase to that street corner. Once you reach street level, just do a 180°, and boom, there's the firehouse. From the Downtown platform, same direction, same 180°. You'll just be on the other side of Varick Street, next to an NYPD Horse Stable. )

You have absolutely nothing smart to comment or write, so you just leech on dead guy reminding us he is actually dead. Good job. F off.

@@jestube I think they were considering Ghost Smashers at one point, but yes, they had to license the name from Filmation, who had done a Ghost Busters cartoon in the '70s. Filmation later re-released the cartoon (and toys), which had two guys and a gorilla (?) fighting ghosts, but it was eclipsed by the cartoon based on the movie, called The Real Ghostbusters.

Always that sense of rushing the takes. Still a active firehouse, I’m sure with the amount of takes that were done while the station was out on a call. Honestly, great outtakes!!

Definitely! A relative saw ghosts and called me! What am I supposed to do?! Burn sage and toss around salt? Wait-a-minute, the lights have been flickering and I've heard footsteps in the hallway but nobody is there. Uh, oh.

okay, i'm ranting. i'm so in love with the creative genius of this movie that i'm ranting. but look at how great it is how they just have Janine _standing there_ while Ray talks about their "courteous" staff. it wasn't in the movie, but it's a hilarious touch. not for nothing, but if that scene were done by Paul Fieg in _Ghostbusters 2016,_ Janine would have ad-libbed _several_ lines about her Facebook page or MySpace or wanton soup or whatever. sigh. i really don't like to compare the two movies, since one is a giant and the other hardly exists at all . . . but it needs to be a screaming reminder to the makers of that incompetent claptrap that the public _won't_ tolerate a horrible product just because we were scolded and shamed to on social media. the movie _itself_ has to be entertaining, or failing that, at least not humiliating to sit through while in a theater with other people.
