This is a compilation of some of the most infamous moments in Smash history that were captured on video. Featuring moments varying from just general controversy and drama, to terrible sportsmanship, and flat out grime in high level tournament sets.
(This is just episode 1, I definitely plan on making another episode in if the future if there's enough interest and enough moments happen, and people enjoy this one enough!)

@@arlantis So, there is a rule for forbidding pausing the game, if you pause you lose. So Fortune intentionally unplug his controller and ask SG to pause the game, but then after SG pause the game, Fortune asked the committee to disqualify SG for pausing. Is this correct?

Here's my thing with that. If he wanted that fox to serve the penalty for pausing. (Losing a stock.) He should serve his punishment for Unplugging (Losing the set.)

Playing as Puff with a 20XX tag, unplugs controller from unwarranted mid-game pop-off, opponent pauses at an appropriate time for him to replug his controller, and while already in the lead, asks for his opponent to lose a stock. Fortune is absolute cancer.

Pressing buttons is outside the game technique. Sitting closer or farther from the TV is a technique. Drinking an energy drink getting good rest staying hydrated are outside the game techniques.

All of which aren't aimed at trying to put your opponent at a disadvantage outside the game. Getting up and standing in front of your opponent to block their view is also an "outside the game" technique but I don't even think you're dumb enough to defend it,

In order to provide a bit more context because this is the most popular video on Fortune's clip (the clip at 6:50) and since I see no one else clarifying, Fortune was simply joking, and he and SG were (even after) good friends. The clip was a misunderstanding and they both knew each other and were friendly with each other. It's taken out of context because of the tournament commentator's (understandable) reaction, but it was simply a joke that Fortune made with SG that went a bit too far. SG didn't take his stock and they continued. He struggled with the backlash against it. He was constantly facing ridicule online, and was even facing threats for it. Fortune passed away on April 30th, 2022. Please don't insult him like many still are nowadays off this one out-of-context clip. Everyone who knew him well always considered him a pleasant, nice, and patient person. He never revealed his pain and please do not go looking and searching for the answers. All of this is kept private for a reason. Please remember to not mock and hate and especially send threats to people online when you don't even know them and what they're going through. May he rest in peace.

@Why don't you have a seat over there ? Fortune unplugged his controller (meaning of course that he can't actually play). SG not wanting to take a cheap kill and just knock him off the stage while Fortune's controller is unplugged, SG paused the game (probably so that the 8 minute timer doesn't continue) so that Fortune had time to plug his controller back in. Strictly speaking however, you have to forfeit a stock (1 "life") whenever you pause the game. Fortune, taking full advantage of SG's kindness and tries to exploit the situation even further, plugs his controller back in and demands that SG, who paused for him to plug his controller back in, suicides one stock. Of course the TO(s?) (Tournament Organiser, the person(s) who has the final say regarding rules) and the commentators would have none of it. I'm pretty sure you can figure out why this is a scummy move to attempt.

@@hegluj6796 Fortune disconnected his controller on accident, the other guy paused the game out of courtesy to let Fortune plug his controller back in. In Smash games, if you pause, you have to SD. Fortune tried to use that against him and tried to argue, that because he paused for him, he should give up his stock.

You make them wish they played another game. You drag them through their beating in a set. And when it's all over, you look them in the eye and go for the handshake. If they accept, then you've humbled your opponent. If not, they just showed why they aren't worthy of anyone's respect

Villager No, that counts for other fighting games. That may be the case for Melee tournaments as of now too, but it simply wasn't in the rules back then. You can even hear Omni stumble when he was told it was not a rule. Yes, it makes sense for it to be a rule, but it simply wasn't back then. Fortune acted like a complete scumbag, but people are simply making up rules to combat it.

6:38 begins the Fortune incident. Fortune's controller plug falls out early in the match and SG (the guy he was facing) paused the game to allow him to plug his controller back in. He then says that SG needs to SD (basically fall off the stage to lose a stock) because SG paused during the match. It's so rude because SG was trying to give him a fair fight but instead tries to gain an advantage from it. At 11:55 is the MikeHaze incident. The explanation is on the screen. It's basically him yelling at his opponents' face to make him miss his grabs.

@celz olsen if you pause the game your opponent can decide if you foirfeit one life, and if you unplug your controller the rules take it as if you abandoned the game and give the win to the opponent, but the guy unplugged the thing by accident, his opponent paused the game so he could plug it back and they would keep playing, he was being very sportsmanlike and the guy tried to use the rules so the guy who paused would lose one life even though he could've not paused and killed him while the controller was off, or even called for a win this game since the guy technically forfeited buy removing his controller. The commentators called the scumbag on his move and he decided to keep playing.

Too bad SG's good gesture wasn't appreciated by a man child. Fortune ...: Had an advantage with a stock above SG. Could've been disqualified for unplugging his controller mid-match. Would've got his ass kicked by a spike if SG didn't pause to let Fortune reconnect his controller. If I was one of the judging, I would have slapped Fortune with a Game 1 L for being such an asshole towards an act of kindness. Keep in mind *you don't have to* SD if there was a pause, it's up to the opposing player, in this case Fortune, which should've ignored or appreciate that pause instead of being a cunt.

Wtf. It's actually not that bad. There is a crowd in many tournaments and crowds are loud and distracting. Each player has to deal with it. I know that that's the player being loud and not the crowd, but it's similar. Fortune was actually being given good fortune from his opponent, yet he still tries his hardest to bring the opponent down.

That last one sent my blood boiling. He shouldn't be able to play in tournaments acting like that. So childish and immature. It looked like it was years ago so I'm sure that person doesn't play anymore. And the community is better off for it.

@@Acemans yeah, I don't give a fuck about why he did it. I get the hate for icies but there's other ways to deal with it. Acting like that, I really wanted the icies to win and I'm sad they didn't.

HBox has said that they only changed to 2/3 right before the tournament and they asked the TO right before the match if coaching was okay and they said yes.
