Wow, absolutely amazing restoration! I'm most impressed with the window, basically went from completely opaque to completely transparent

Looks great , I suspect who ever painted it was going for a fire damaged look.

*GREAT restoration *Nick! I'm restoring a 1966 Capsule but screwed up and removed the old, crooked U.S. sticker and tried to glue back on with GOOP glue and MY GOD it started to eat the plastic backing! as I removed and thought just order a NEW sticker. The I used paint thinner to remove the GOOP glue and wiping the panels it started to eat away the plastic in those panels! I FREAKED U=OUT and had a HELL of a time cleaning it all off, had to use a dremel sanding disc to smooth out the rippled goop glue MESS on the surface. Then my windshield was cracked and I removed that put cracked the capsule in spots - NiGhTmArE.

Thanks for watching and commenting it’s really appreciated.. sounds like a bit of a nightmare.. you never know how products will react to vintage plastic.. always best to do a test area first.. 👍😎👍

Great job! I would have used the liquid version of barkeepers! It would have been a bit kinder and may have gotten in the grooves better. That brasso is amazing. Also headlight restorer is good.

Part 2 - glued and repainted but matching the color of the capsule was another NiGhTmArE! Mine had two old red bulleye stickers on the top and bottom of nose cones and send the one to sticker guy in UK to have him make me 2 new ones. Then I bought a piece of frosted plastic to cut and incert as a new windshield and that worked and cut the old slide handle off the old cracked plastic and glued to frosted new shield. It's been a HELL of a project BUT it turned out GREAT!

I have some 1980s brasso. it was my mom's. I didn't want to use it up because she always cleaned up her bridles and saddles metal bits with it. been around for years! might be doing some tests. thanks for the tip. nice work!

@@NICKSTOYBARN. Do you have any suggestions about how to seal a crack in the clear windshield? Not scratches, but a crack.
@NICKSTOYBARN7 ай бұрын
@@jayjay-bz3rr Thanks for watching.. to fix a cracked window I would use UHU glue it drys clear.. but you have to be careful with it because it’s very messy.. if you manage to get a little bit in the crack it will bond it.. don’t use superglue because it will turn the plastic white.. good luck with it.. 👍😎👍

Great save, a lot of toy car restorers use Pledge floor polish for the plastic windscreens to fill in the scratches, I use car dash board reviver on my restorations, gives them a nice shine, you may already do this but this is the first video of yours I have seen.

I use a lot of car cleaning products when restoring.. I really like to use bumper shine on old plastic.. Thanks for watching and commenting it’s really appreciated.. 👍😎👍

Next time try covering it in bleaching cream, wrapping it in plastic kitchen wrap, and placing it in the sun for several hours. You can do this multiple times, until the surface is completely bleached and free of staining. Also, try some reusable lighter type fluid like for a zippo and it will sometimes remove the marker with one swipe.
@NICKSTOYBARN3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting.. I’ve used that method on some of my Star Wars figures.. it’s good but it does eventually come back.. I’m happy with the result that I got.. I did try the lighter fluid and it wouldn’t touch it.. 👍😎👍
