Quando si ricorda un brano musicale davvero bello, fra alcuni, si ricorda sempre anche questo. Perché? Perché il grande Puccini, che ha scritto musiche indimenticabili, ha voluto toccare i nostri cuori con questa melodia. Il pizzicato che accompagna il coro pare carezzarti, ogni volta, l'anima, mentre le voci ti mandano in estasi. È molto di più che note, molto di più che suoni: è la voce interiore della nostra spiritualità che si risveglia e ci trasporta in una dimensione di sogno, di fantasia, di dolcissima malinconia. È, semplicemente, struggente e accorata. Non ve ne sarà mai un altro come Puccini.

Same, I’m from Torre del Lago Puccini and I feel so deeply connected to Puccini’s music, it truly speaks to my soul, bringing tears to my eyes every time. My mother used to sing Puccini’s melodies when she was pregnant of me and when I was born, she still is a huge fan of Puccini’s operas. It’s always been part of my life. And Madama Butterfly is my favourite as well🦋

Indeed, it was inspired simply observing a dawn on a lake. The lake on which Giacomo Puccini lived and composed all his masterpieces. I live nearby and understand how it has been possible.

Ohhh this music is what we played at my sisters funeral she committed suicide the day before my birthday, I miss her so much 🌹 and at my brothers funeral who also committed suicideWho I also miss when I was 19 we played thank you for the days originally by the kinks but we played Kirsty McCalls version 🌹 sorry to be morbid folks but life is like that at times.

@@gloriacarminati5299 Le parti scritte da Puccini non si alternano, se poi un maestro di coro vuole utilizzare la voci distribuendo l'organico in due sezioni che si alternino può essere una scelta, ma sinceramete mi pare poco produttivo e nemmeno molto corretto. Meglio imparare a cantar bene e a tenere le note come devono essere tenute, se mai si può rubare il fiato se necessario, ma niente di più.

@@gloriacarminati5299 Non è che non prendano fiato, più semplicemente dove è previsto si ruba e bisogna considerare che il coro a bocca chiusa è eseguito a mezza voce, dove la necessità di fiato è sicuramente minore. Non trovo alcuna alternanza di voci che coprano le pause, che non sono previste. Puccini ha scritto diversamente, ovvio, senza pretendere la perfezione che comunque è sempre gradita. In ogni caso a me è capitato di cantarlo e il maestro esigeva il fiato proprio come ho detto.

(Se ti scriverò ancora, lo farò da qui) Sperando che tu l'apprezzi, e per riuscire a vivere insieme almeno un'emozione, ti offro questo gioiello di Puccini e qui sotto, uno scorcio di testo, tratto da un tema che credo riconoscerai. Bacio - Dario Per te... inerente al 'Coro a bocca chiusa' (che sarebbe il sottotitolo): "...fissò dalla lontananza l'interno del palco... lo colpì la schiena dritta e collo alto della donna... ... Distolse immediatamente lo sguardo... Achille ((il figlio 'perso')) non resistette... e poco dopo si girò come incerto verso... Riuscì solo a scorgere lo sguardo sereno ma fisso e rivolto verso la platea, pareva che il palcoscenico non la interessasse. ...l'attrazione... e vide ancora la donna che inequivocabilmente fissava lui mentre carezzava i capelli della 'bambina'. Poi... nella penombra... vide che scuoteva lentamente la testa, come dicendo "...no...", tante volte, e ancora, "...no". L'emozione l'invase, e ancora distolse nervosamente lo sguardo... ... Madre e figlia parlavano distesamente... tutto si spiegava... Non guardava lui. ... Si sentì un sussulto in sala con l'inizio della 'Romanza' ... ma quei due occhi meravigliosi, ora meglio visibili... lo fissavano implacabilmente... ... In sala si sentirono diverse persone tossire... altri si riassestarono nelle poltrone. Qualcuno sussurrò "...c'è il 'Coro a bocca chiusa'". ...quelle parole rimasero impresse nella sua mente e riverberarono nel suo cuore. ... Le noti metafisiche del 'Coro a bocca chiusa' lo travolsero dolcemente... ... ...determinato a 'capire'... la fissò... con finta freddezza... Lei gli rispose posando ancora le mani sui capelli della figlia... senza togliergli lo sguardo. ... Si avviò... I tacchi alti accentuavano la sua figura slanciata... in seta beige arricchita... ... ...pensò che fosse lei la donna del palco ma non c'era traccia della ragazza... ... ...impaziente, teneva d'occhio Veronica... cui... alzò le braccia e costernata, disse qualcosa alla donna. ... Senza accorgersi della vicinanza di Achille, girò decisamente le spalle a Veronica e trovando lui a pochi centimetri di distanza, all'istante ammutolì, poi arrossendo lo guardò intensamente negli occhi. ...maldestramente, tentò di fingere 'sdegno'... e si rivolse a qualcuno in lontananza: "Martina, andiamo! Il taxi ci aspetta!" Infine si girò verso Veronica: "Come ti sei permessa!" La figlia salutò con imbarazzo i coetanei... sparirono dal portone principale. ... "E' lei" - disse Veronica. "Chi!?" - rispose energicamente Achille. "Anita" "Chi? Chi è Anita!?" - ribattè con ansia commossa. "La donna che hai visto uscire ora con sua figlia". ... ... l'accelerazione... lasciò filtrare un fascio di luce nella finestra posteriore... riconobbe i due occhi della 'donna sul palco' che ancora lo fissavano con esasperata loquacità... ..." Thanks. I was so surprised, the first time I attended a performance of Madame Butterfly, when the Humming Chorus was performed. I wasn't familiar with it and I was bowled over that the composer of the musical Les Miserables (Claude-Michel Schönberg) had so obviously stolen from this for the song Bring Him Home. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but this kind of heavy duty borrowing is much more than another well-known example of theft from Puccini. Andrew Lloyd Webber stole a little of the aria Quello che tacete from La Fanciulla del West for the song Music of The Night. For that one Puccini's heirs sued Lloyd Webber.

Also, The Humming Chorus is far more powerful in its use of that same theme. Puccini didn't have to move to forte. It was piano but steady and powered by the pentatonal play so simply built and so perfect for the scene at the end of Act 2. Although the piece is about 7 minutes, the passage in the story is all night long until morning. Everyone falls asleep at a point, but Butterfly who has already had the premonition of tragedy. The effect of the expression of time is overwhelming and when woven with the music, it is the divine. As Buffy St. Marie said, "And Time is the magic length of God."

This week I saw the film House of Gucci with a friend and the Humming Chorus was used in the film.
