To Zola's point, it just wasn't Maradona: The entire league was HUGE back then. The quality of players in Serie A from 1983 through 2008 was astounding. The competition was beyond top level. We'll never see it again.

I remember those times... Zola was a great italian no.10. He was unfortunate that he had to compete with R. Baggio for the Italian national team 😅

As good as Maradona was, the Divine Ponytail reinvented the No. 10 position into a "9.5", at least 30 years ahead of time.

Defensive players need some recognition when it comes to best ever....for me it would have to be Maldini or Beckenbauer. Mentions going out to Baresi and Rio as well.

@@brentinnes5151 the number 10 position is the most "spectacular" but not necessarily the best. A team can play without a number 10, but they can't play without a defense.

He’s right ….a lot of people seem to forget easily. It’s Messi this or Messi that ….but let me tell you this Messi wouldn’t do what Diego…..go to a small team and make them Champions against the mighty & Corrupt teams from the north in the Best competition in the world. Also the conditions….Messi never played on a bad pitch his whole life…..Messi never played on a poor constructed team….Messi never played with Bad & average players Pls stop the BS ….just let this sink in and be honest with yourself It’s Diego by a landslide

Exactly coz Messi had it laid out all perfectly for him. While Diego was fighting the elements No one touches Diego in my book and I’m sure the ones who grew up with him agree with me
