I feel like I should say something sanctimonious here. I don't think English people hate Maradona. Whatever jokes or jibes were made at him, when he died, the talk in England was all about the loss of a football genius, and any replays of the cheating twat punching the ball into the net are nearly always accompanied by the other goal he scored that game, when he took the ball 60 yards, beating 5 defenders and the goalie. Pure genius. Also, I'd just like to point out that although Geoff Hursts shot in 1966 bounced outside the goal, if you watch the replay a few dozen times whilst having a few drinks, you can clearly see the ball spinning over the goal line whilst hurtling downwards off the bar. God Bless Maradona, God Bless Kazakhstan, and God bless our queer old dean. Huzzah!
@lotuseater72475 күн бұрын
It's nice to just make stuff up without being pulled up on it isn't it. See the first ten minutes and any fouls are part of the game at the time, in fact the Argies are equally if not worse. While a number of very fair tackles are made on him. These are then not comparable to blatantly handling the ball.

@andredemony8 күн бұрын
I saw it live on TV. None of us understood in the moment it was not the head that sent that ball into the goal. He did outjump Shilton - look at the photo of the moment immortalized by Alejandro Ojeda Carbajal. It is clear though, that without the hand Maradona wouldn't have reached the ball. It is possible that the ref was tricked by the linesman assesment, it is also possible that he couldn't make himself call the goal off. In the end the better team won. Fairly? Nope.
@mortenfrosthansen847 күн бұрын
I always suspected that the italian mafia, had stirred some pressure juice up to give the refereeing staff. Partly to make their starboy happy, and also cash in nicely on bets. There are more instances in the match, were ref is temporarily blind

Brilliant answer. To a redundant question. A better question for Mr. Maradona would have been to ask him how he, being only 5ft nothing, managed to outjump the England goalkeeper, Peter Shilton who was 6ft, 2" tall - in order to score the goal in the first place. In no way are the two things comparable. Deliberately punching the ball into the goal is the deliberate decision of the player to cheat. Take Diego's handball goal away and the match is drawn. Disallow the goal where the ball doesn't cross the line against Germany and I think that makes the score 3-2 to England, or maybe mathematics work differently when you have half a kilo of Colombian marching powder up your hooter.
@andredemony8 күн бұрын
No mate. Both the 86' hand of God as well as the non-goal of 66' were not the last goals of their games. Disallowing Diego's first goal would surely change the rest of the game and arguably that second goal would not have come. The point being that the match was still open. In 66 we have the exact same situation. The controversial goal is England's third goal, not the fourth. In both games if the referees would have made correct decisions both games would have continued as ties. We can only imagine how they would turned out-
@simonwilcox44378 күн бұрын
@@andredemony Agreed. It is only supposition when it comes to predicting the actual outcome of the matches had the correct decisions been made. A childish response from a man-child. Essentially what his argument is as follows: Two wrongs make a right and it doesn't matter if you cheat, so long as you win at the end. I am no fan of his eventhough I'll acknowledge his greatness on the field (I know you guys call it "the Pitch", but in the U.S. we call the grass you play sports on, "a field".), he led a pathetic life outside of it and ultimately paid the price for his excesses. Just imagine the heights he would have achieved in soccer (football) if he had had the discipline of Pele or Messi off the field (Pitch for all you football snobs)? A pity that such God given talented was bestowed on such a petty person like Maradona.

Englands goal against Germany was not cheating, just luck. Diegos hand of god was cheating. You cant compare. However he was simply incredible.

Wise move by Maradona not to seek out Butcher , Butcher would probably eaten him for breakfast

Butcher didn't have the friends and admirers Maradona did. The mafia in Napels adored him, and he once visited Pablo Escobar in his luxury cartel "prison". Not that he needed them. He shot journalists outside his home with an air rifle once.

Not gonna happen since Maradona would have already eaten him for the previous night's dinner.
