Public land bow hunt in Wisconsin where I kill my biggest buck to date. We put a lot of time and effort scouting this piece of land, but ultimately staying mobile and trying to find the hottest deer sign put us in the right place at the right time on November 8th.

You do not need to ever second guess yourself for that shot. I would have taken it without hesitation. I have, several times. In my experience it is more deadly than the picturesque broadside shot. You train for it, and you are well prepared to execute it. I understand you can always learn from the experience in hindsight, especially because you film it. However, in the moment you were focused and ready. Don’t let a camera change that. Congratulations, well earned.

Nothing wrong with high fiving and celebrating the kill. I would much rather see the raw emotions and celebrations than nothing at all. They're hunting a big buck, not attending his funeral.
@thedeercamp
@thedeercamp 3 жыл бұрын
@@mztd912 i think a lot of KZfaq hunters over dramatize & over exaggerate it. There is nothing wrong with however anyone wants to react to killing a deer. But I do like to see hunters show respect in a different way, that's me personally. If their way of doing it is by high fiving and smiling & doing a break dance, good for them. But I personally don't like that. I think its possible to be excited and ecstatic at achieving something that's very difficult, but still being compassionate, respectful, & even a little remorseful. A life was just taken. Idk, every time I shoot a deer, the first thing I do when finding it is saying thank you and apologizing. But again, that's just me. To each their own.
@mztd912
@mztd912 3 жыл бұрын
@@thedeercamp I don't think anyone really tries to act excited or over dramatize it, I'm 99% sure the emotions are real and not fabricated. Shooting a giant whitetail buck is truly exhilarating for many people and so the reactions can seem very over the top but it's as real as it gets. The worst hunting shows are the ones where they shoot a giant buck and they cut out all the emotions and excitement after the shot and just cut straight to the dull face interview. Or even worse, the hunter shows no emotions and just mumbles at the camera like it's just another day at the office. I'm glad many guys on youtube are keeping it real and not trying to be too "hollywood" about it. And by that I mean they don't "act" calm after shooting the buck, they let loose. They show the shaking, the slurring of words, the tears of joy, the laughter, hooting and hollering, the high fives, the hugs, the air punches, everything. That's how it should be. I don't consider it being disrespectful. Everyone enjoys hunting in their own way and some people really do get excited about killing a giant buck. I know I do, and I hold nothing back. I soak it all up. And I get excited for my buddies or family that shoot a deer. I give em all the high fives and hugs and all the hooting and hollering, hand shakes, attaboy's that they deserve. Those are memories we live for and memories we never forget.
@thedeercamp
@thedeercamp 3 жыл бұрын
@@mztd912 i definitely understand. I didnt mean it was disrespectful. I guess it's just a "to each their own" thing. It's possible I'm just a different personality. I don't think the guys that aren't acting overly excited are acting calm or they're cutting out the parts where they were high fiving. I think they just have different control of their emotions. Matter of fact, I just today shot a 198" buck I've been after all year. It's been very tough and mentally exhausting. After the shot, there was no celebration because even though I shot it through the heart, there is still a sense of worry. After finding the deer, there became a sense of relief. As always, I apologized to the deer. All my hunting buddies around me were celebrating, high fiving, making the comment that they felt they were more excited than I was. As happy as I am, there is a connection with that deer I've felt and at no point did I feel the desire to do a dance and high five that he is now dead. Idk, maybe I'm just a real boring guy at parties lol. I guess we all have our own ideas on what we like to see and how we personally respond to things and that's a good thing too.
