The amount of dry bites and attempts to either sit there or wriggle free made me feel a lot better about these centipedes. Especially when she just sat there like "are we done yet" it was honestly kind of cute.

Hey everyone, sorry if my excessive blinking and/or fast talking was off-putting in any way. In addition to being nervous for the upcoming bite, I am also not yet entirely comfortable with showing my face on camera, which is why I may have seemed rather awkward. So apologies for that; I will be trying to relax myself more for future uploads. Edit: A couple (unintentional) bites later, I have developed an allergy to centipede bites. That is always a risk, especially with repeated exposure.

I’ve seen a few guys take bites from the giant desert centipede and all three of them experienced a great deal of pain for a while. One of them was that Coyote guy, so I figured he overplayed the pain. The other two guys were more reliably believable. Those centipedes are in the Arizona desert.

Really interesting interaction. I wasn't aware that centipedes give dry bites like snakes and spiders. It obviously makes sense any venomous animal would want to reserve it's venom for predation, but there's something about the higher than average aggressive nature of centipedes that makes me think of them differently. Pinch->inject venom->ask questions later. It's also making me re-think the concept of venom as a defense mechanism. It seems logical a venom that induces a high level of pain (like centipede venom) would be used for both defense and subduing prey, and painless venom would be purely an offensive weapon. If so, it seems an animal that delivers a painful bite/sting would not hesitate to deliver venom when threatened. Perhaps venom that produces pain in primates is merely coincidental, not by natural design, even though primates have lived as a potential threat side-by-side animals like centipedes for a very long time. Or maybe this particular centipede is less aggressive or values its' venom reserve more than usual. I don't keep centipedes or any other insects/bugs/arthropods but they do fascinate me. Not many animals invoke primal fear for me, but I have to be honest, centipedes scare the crap out of me. I caught and released a soil centipede in my house last week, and even though I knew it couldn't harm me it still freaked me out.

That "warning bite" is when you scream in pain and drop it so it has a chance to flee. Doesn't really wanna use venom as it takes a lot of energy to generate and mainly uses it for prey

I've been bitten by a centipede before and it felt more like a hot iron being pressed on to my skin, which was extremely painful. Coincidentally, it was also in my fingertips too. I was sleeping when I was bitten, which suddenly woke me up due to the intense pain.

A few years ago I took several bites from a Texas redhead ( Scolopendra heros)while loading some lumber. It was instant searing white hot pain that ramped up over the next several hours. It came in waves with each wave a little worse than the previous. I ended up in the ER when I started vomiting and spent the night in the hospital. The experience was absolutely awful but I was told by the ER doctor that he was sure I had been severely envenomated with multiple bites. My arm was red and swollen pretty badly from the elbow down but had pain into my chest, back, jaw and had a funny chemical type taste in my mouth for most of the night afterwards.

Getting bit in the arm might be painful but I was bit by one in hawaii in the ear and it hurt like hell

I saw a huge centipede really close to my feet yesterday as I was prepping for bed and have been so terrified since then. I wasn't bitten, thank the lord, but still really scared since I have a habit of sleeping on the floor (more comfortable) and often without any clothes on. I *think* your video has calmed me down some and I thank you for that.

Pretty much everyone if they see a photo of a centipede: they are vicious and will leap to your throat and bite you and you will definitely die every time. They will then twirl their antennae like a mustache and tie your corpse to the railroad tracks.
