GIANT Cubera Snapper! Catch Clean Cook (Florida Keys Snapper Fishing)

This is a fish I've wanted to catch my entire life! The Cubera Snapper is the largest snapper species in the world. Every year around the full moon in August and September Giant Cubera snapper spawn offshore on wrecks. This makes it easier to locate these generally solitary and nomadic fish. Cubera Snapper have such large teeth and powerful jaws that they are able to feed on live spiny lobster, which is what we use as bait. Live lobster are the best bait to use when targeting cubera snapper, as this is one of their main staples in their diet! Big Cubera Snapper often get a bad name when it comes to table fare, as they are thought to contain Ciguatera which can cause poisoning. This is more seen in other parts of the Caribbean and the Bahamas and rarely in Florida.

@Carlos Baez yes octopus do, but show me the sardin, Marlin, Salmon or Coalfish, well, when the lobster are plankton, everything eat them, that's normal, but I'm speaking about adult lobste and only a few fish are able to catch and crack them. But my point was that it needs no lobster to get a fish red in the skin or in the case of a salmon or trout the meat. bye

Awesome catch & cook video Viktor! As someone who actually has experienced a bad case of ciguatera from a 20 Lb gag grouper we caught off Haulover inlet back in the early 90's, I stopped eating most big bottom fish long ago. My better half got a severe case of it that lasted several weeks, and won't even touch smaller groupers that I still catch & eat. Good job and when I see you again, remind me to tell you that ciguatera story as there are some details about the disease that I learned from talking to the #1 world renowned expert on ciguatera, Dr Don DeSilva (RIP) from UM's Rosentiel School of Marine Science. Cheers and Great job once again!

I have my favorite sizes for certain fish that I target and I STOCK up when I can because I would be heart broken if my favorite hook gets discontinued ! But I’m not concerned considering I have enough stock piled for prob the next 40 years lol . Hats off to mustad . I’ve had every other hook fail me but never ever a mustad .

Amazing cooking and it had my wife intrigued with the cooking because she is a chef as well and you guys had my mouth watering so freaking much and with that said I think that would be a good recipe for Cobia because it's such a similar firmness and flakiness to the fish and thanks James for giving my wife a recipe to cook and prepare for me and she really like your style of cooking. Thanks for sharing..... And my wife said that tomato sauce would be great with a tad of orange zest finely grated and not a lot but just enough...
