I watched this film already a couple of years ago in the cinema... and it was chocking to see the huge gap between the Canadian legal system on LGBT+ rights, which is one of the most advance in the entire world since 2005... and the psychological development of the characters altogether. The main clue for me out of this story was that no matter how civilize a country is on LGBT+ rights if the educational system does not deal with those issues properly we will still carry on those prejudices from the past into our future, and the younger generations will still suffer a lot from such limitations. This is a great film to think about many important issues that go far beyond the characters themselves. Cheers...!

exactly, you are absolutely right. usually, the law lags behind societal changes but sometimes, very rarely, it gets ahead and this could happen with lgbtq+ rights. lawmakers might enact the changes, but 30% or so of the population (mostly the elderly and more conservatives) struggle with the new law. regardless of equality laws, high school students often have very skewed views about ethics and what is right or wrong. tolerance, empathy and respect for minorities are values they need to learn and the school should be the place where they receive unbiased education on these values, some might not be lucky enough to get from their parents. this 2018 Canadian production is a good example about the way still ahead of us for a more equal world

It is a scary thing... realizing how important a major reforms of the educational system worldwide needs to be done if we are to achieve any major chances in the next generations regarding sexual preferences and gender identity. The law alone is never going to make it happen. Cheers...!

@@JustThai_BoysLove well, it starts with parents and the wider family. how do they react to some behaviour shown in pre-school kids and kindergarten? do they 'correct' kids when they 'deviate' from stereotypical role-patterns? or the role of religion and its representatives. religion often is represented by [old] men reciting ancient scriptures of long-dead authors and expect the current generation to abide by translations and interpretations made by other old men in the past. age-appropriately, the child needs to learn how to place 'the result' into context and be critically about it. no religion should be taught at face value and allowed to get absorbed without reflecting on it. most of this needs to be done before the child enters elementary school. religion is an issue however, which requires attention at least until graduation from high school

@@embreis2257 I believe is the other way around: IF the educational system does not provide a wide and open view of this issues the younger generations won't be able to free themselves from the conservatives family and circles they have to live with altogether. Since it is practically impossible to "reform" the believes of the previous generations we should concentrate in the future ones... and that can only be accomplished by the educational systems. Of course... there will still be too many holes, because the private educational sector always differs a lot from the public one. It is an endless circle that won't go away... probably ever. Cheers...!
