Pairing the trance to the Garmin is a simple process, just make sure to turn on sensors discovery on the Garmin unit WHILE you're pedalling the bike. For some reason if you do it while stationary it won't pick it up as e-bike but as power meter or cadence meter discrete sensors, even though the ant+ connection won't pass that kind of data to the head unit. Other than that it works great

I got the reign e+0 since January 2022. I got over 3300km on this bike, mostly in hard terrain. This bike is an absolute machine, a beast❤

How do you find the motor compared to the Bosch CX, Brose Drive S Mag or other motors? Does your SyncDrive make strange noises in eco mode? Do you have the problem that the SyncDrive stops at 24 km/h and not at 25-26 km/h? Does the app work well for you? What is the ground clearance of the pedals? Did you leave the original tires and handlebars on? I'm interested in the Reign E+ 0 2022 because it's currently on sale for around €6,300 in size L and Giant is the only brand with a gross vehicle weight rating of 156kg that I know of. I am very heavy (130kg) and 156kg - 25kg are 131kg. This is the only e-enduro that I am allowed to ride, but I am very unsure because I read about many problems on the internet, as I described above.

@@FINNdeischgut I've got a Reign E+ 1 pro 2020. It doesn't stop assistance at 24, but at 26.5(there is a "demo" mode that limits assistance and power earlier, instructions about how to turn it on/off are in the manual or search the internet). Mine is based on the Yamaha PWX2, only 80 nm, but it feels great for my 82 kg. Didn't try the S Mag yet, but it feels the same more or less as the Bosch gen 4. The app is garbage, at least the android one, navigation only works if google maps bike navigation is available in your area, but I'm not using it anyway, it's and enduro bike. From what I've heard the Specialized are nice, but very expensive. If you buy one you cand activate something in your app with the recipe and if it gets stolen you can report it as lost and a brand manager from the country the bike will be in will go to the police and get it back.

@@FINNdeischgut i have reign e+2 2022 and I have problems with overheating in hot days and im only 77 kg, ground clearence is to low i have problems with pedal stroke, eco mode does make strange noise so im not using it. If i would be buying again i would pick specialized turbo levo or some bike with bosch cx. Reign is quite ok bike but you have above described problems. Mine stops at aprox 24 kmph.

Great review as always, happy with my Reign E+2, budget friendly and a beast of a bike up and down the hills. Look forward to your review of the reign. I really would love to try the boshe abs on the front end. Hopefully it'll be available in the shops soon.

Good job Sam. I love my E Reign and find the motor plenty powerful and having 5 power modes really helps with battery efficiency. I also would like to have more power adjustability the increments are not small enough. I agree technical climbing and little half strikes are very controlled. Looking forward to your review on my Reign.

Another great review Sam, 100% agree with everything about power, range & feel of the pwx3. The only other thing il add is long term durability, after 1400kms mine been sitting in bike shop with grinding/squeeling noises coming from it and Giant seem to be twiddling there thumbs figuring out waht to do with it, if it was a Boshe/Brose it would have probably been sorted by now and replaced which is what needs to happen, I will keep you updated as to the result.

Excellent review Sam. My wife has the trance e+1, and I have to agree, the new syncdrive pro is a great motor. When she has it in auto mode I struggle to keep up with her when I am in trail mode on my Levo. Has been faultless so far. You should organise a quick (long?) trip across the ditch to New Zealand when you visit Australia. So many fantastic parks and trails (Rotorua, Nelson, Queenstown, Canterbury, Wellington……) all calling out to you…. Sam, Sam, come to me Sam…….

I really wanted to test one of theses. I wanted a reign. But none available. Test rode 5 other bikes, then bought a Husqvarna. I absolutely love it. Made a few upgrades and it’s still under budget. Love the Husqvarna

awesome! My next bike will probably be an eMTB and likely a giant Trance. I've had several Giants over the years and my current Anthem (human powered) is still going strong For the terrrain I have and the typical riding I do the Trance will be a lot of travel but will be nice on those out-of-town adventures.

I have the Bosch system on my POLE VOIMA and must say I like the TRANCE SYNCDRIVE system on my GIANT TRANCE a little better as far as motor system goes.

Great review. I felt the same way when I tested the Rail vs trance. Bosch is more punchy from standing start. Sometime it’s too much when you pick the wrong line.

Please do a video on how to sync the X Drive with the Garmin 520. I’ve tried many times unsuccessfully to connect my Garmin to my Advanced E +0. Love your stuff! You are very insightful and super helpful !!👍👍

the way you control the power with the bosch motors is with brakes :). I often find myself climbing tricky stuff dragging the rear brake :D

I love my 2021 Giant Stance e+ but wondering also about Rocky Mountains Dyname system. I don't see much bad about it but I love the Giant motor so much I'm concerned about going to anything else. I nearly pulled the trigger on a 2022 Trance e+Pro that is in this review but I just couldn't get over that paint schema..

Love my 22 Reign e+3 have had 5500 feet out of the 625 battery of climbing working in lower power modes for the start of the day, I had to stop using the Auto the surging on uneven ground got too much I just use the 5 modes, I was riding with someone on a specialised the day and he actually asked if i had chipped the bike as i was so much faster up hill, i had not 🤣. Oh i also use a Garmin 530 really easy to pair but do not bother with the power meter its not good numbers between giant and garmin are bit of a mess and read far too low.

Love giant ebikes, picking my fathom pro up next week , the motor and battery are brilliant, and personally I think the way Giants software gets the best out of the bike ,may not be the biggest battery, or most powerful motor, they just do it very well.

That Syncdrive system looks nice, but as you said don’t think that the automatic mode is useful to a normal rider. The unique five mode system is pretty enough, but all that wanna buy a ebike should try at least 3 motor to make a decision, all are great but all are very different. Nice work

Great review, Sam! I also like Giant's smooth power delivery. I tried Bosch and it was too punchy on steep uphills making it hard to control front wheel. The new controls with minimalistic design are really great. Can't say the same about Ridecontrol app. First time I tried to connect it with a bike, it forced me to update motor's software which didn't go well and turned the bike into a brick. There are a lot of reports of the same issue on the internet and Play market. Seems that's why it's rated at only 1.4 stars! Re battery range, in my case Bosch on Rail 7 worked almost 50% longer than Reign with similar battery. I'm hoping there was a reason for that and your comparison is more realistic. Because I still love Reign in general.

Thanks for the kind words and congrats on the new e-bikes! As for a kick stand I don’t use one for the videos I just used a fishing rob holder but you can buy some nice bike stands at most online bike shops

Thanks for the great content Sam! I look forward to your videos. The Giant sounds like a great bike. I like the feature you mentioned that adjusts the assist/power based on cadence. I got a new Levo Comp Carbon During their October sale and couldn’t be happier. Just love the feel of the bike and I’m obsessed with the looks of the Specialized bikes. Now I’m looking for something a bit more affordable for my wife to get her out on the trails with me. Maybe Giant will be a contender. Keep up the great work!

Hey Jeff thanks for the kind words mate! Glad to hear your happy with the Levo I can’t wait to ride mine dream build in Aussie next week. I think the trance might be a solid option for your wife! Long wheels base, long chainstay makes it super stable and the low stand over height makes it perfect to shorter riders if your wife is shorter like mine haha 😂 I would probably get some 30mm riser bars and a short 30mm stem for her on the trance because as stock it puts you over the front which I like but can be a little intimidating.

i was so close to buy a giant reign but on mtb forums are so many people with cracks in paint and frames between battery and motor because of the flatout weldingline. Giant has lifetime warranty on frames but i dont like the risk to take it on a ride or jump.....

Sam, thanks for your job. As a Giant retailer I'm very thankful for You and Rob for your reviews. I got a question: I heared that Bosch has got kind of a shifting sensor that can decrease the torque when the chain lost it's tension during shifting to smaller sprockets. Have you noticed any difference between these two motors during shifting under load?

Hey Peter thanks for the kind words it really means a lot! If I’m honest I haven’t spent that much time on a bosch only on the Mondraker which is did about 3 weeks or riding. I didn’t notice any difference between when changing gears. I think with any ebike you just have to take the load off yourself and take it easy or you can damage the cassette and chain.

Main thing I don’t like about the motor is the weak plastic cover under the motor, worried about cracking it here in the Illawarra, a lot of rock drops and climbs. Also the round plastic Giant side cover on the engine is pretty weak and I’ve hit it a few times, looks like it’s coming loose. Why Giant didn’t come up with some better after market engine protection is beyond me. I do love the range I get out of the 750 watt battery, can do a 3 hour ride in the escarpment and still have a few bars to spare. Still only have 300 klm on the motor, so time will tell how reliable it is compared to my problem riddled Shimano E8000. Also found that the sensor on the swing arm gets covered in mud and cuts out the engine. Not the best place for it me thinks. I also think the engine is pretty noisy when engaged compared to the E8000. Giant need better engine protection for those who actually use them in the real world. Are you hanging in South Aussie Sam or you going to have a go in the Illawarra Escarpment while here?

@@SamsBikes I share your fathers pain, daughter lives in Barcelona. I’ll be out of action for a few months, broke my collar bone last Saturday and smash my rear carbon wheel on the Reign. Was riding my old Commencal Meta Power at the time, been a bad week! You should try to get to Thredbo.

I have a new trance xe+1 and I have a trek powerfly fs gen 3 and I must say I like the power and the punch, especially going up a hill and paddling of the Bosch motor… This Yamaha motor pedalling uphill in sport mode full torque full everything I still feel like I have to pedal hard?… Anyone else? It’s like it works better in a larger sprockets setting going slower, pedalling rotation faster. Seems like there’s more power there in that scenario.. just weird feeling not really loving it that much compared to the Bosch.

Sam hill climbing at low cadence is what the Sachs is known for . i'm really a bit pissed that Nox won't send you a bike to test . i think the only way you will ever get to ride one is if i bring my bike to you 😂 you should know it's not you , nox as far as i know doesn't send any of their bikes out to testers/reviewers , which i find to be quite odd. anyway have a great time in Australia . 😎

Does anyone else have problems with motor overheating. I heared this is common issue with new syncdrive pro motor and you can find a lot off sad owners on the internet. I have giant reign e+2 2022 and I weight 77 kg and have problems with overheating and motor automaticly shift down modes from 5 to 4 or 3. Outside temp was only 20 deg celcius. Thanks for honest comments. I hope anyone has a solution for this issue.

Hiha I would go speak to your Giant dealer you might have a problem there! I’ve only had over heating once in summer in Spain after 1 hour of riding in the top assistant mode!

the controller inside the motor is also made buy giant and it is can bus locked so bin job out of warranty but the non giant Yamaha motors use uart and you can buy the controllers and motor parts where as none of the others do this because the Yamaha motor is one of the only motors that was made to be serviced and you can get the parts for them.

@@SamsBikes Yeah I was so disappointed..there's a fella in NZ that reviews ebikes..I can here the same clunk when descending on the Reign he's reviewing..he even comments in the video..very much like the bosch clunk.

At first I thought I had the same problem with my reign e+1 but the problem was with the break pads doing the noise .Push the "springs " that the pads are sitting in the caliper and the noise will be gone.Btw the reign e+ is absolutely great bike!!!

@@marcinjurek4018 I did try adjusting the spring and even put felt on the pads to see if this was the cause..the pads were never an issue..the noise was a series of clunks only noticable when descending over rough stuff.
