Great video. Two things you could do to make the next change a lot easier. First, when you are removing the old tire, turn your pry bar around so that knob is against the rim instead of outward. Than you are using the tool the better way to remove the tire edge. The angle on the pry bar needs to get under the tire edge to grab it. The way you used it allows it to merely slip off the tire edge when you pry. Second make sure you thoroughly clean the rim edges of all rust and debris. And then lube it up well with the soap. And do the same to the tire edge as well. The slicker both are, the easier the effort. Thumbs Up!

Well done. I think this is the first KZfaq video that accurately shows what a first timer can expect when trying to change a tractor tyre (UK spelling). I’ve just spent half a day just getting the old, rust encrusted one off and refurbing the inner dish of the wheel rim (and my tyre levers dented the wheel rim too). Can’t wait until I come to fit the new tyre. 🤣 And yes, you can just pay the professionals to do it for you, but it costs more and you learn nothing! Nice one

If u get a tire more stubborn then that. Push the bead in the initial spot put large nuts or spacers of some kind between the tire and the lip of the wheel on the bead seat of the wheel then reposition the bead breaker and push in the new spot.

I have that bead buster. It works great IF you can get it started. Some tires have protective raised rub layers next to the rum and you cannot get the bead buster under the rim to get started.

No experience with tires this size, but I was thinking about what you said, how tires harden up. That thing was so old, it probably had lost all of it's elasticity, making the removal process WAY harder.

I am a guy who watched a guy that watched a guy change a tractor tire. 😁 You made it interesting though. One tip from doing a lot of truck tires. Lube lube lube when taking off and removing. There can't be too much lube. Silicone lube works great but you can buy a gallon of tire lube that relatively cheap.

A bit of gasoline on the bead will soften the rubber to help break the bead. This helps more also though when the tire is laying down but In this case a bit towards the top will run down and help some. Doesn’t take much.

Vaseline works good as tire lube, you didn't use nearly enough, you need to put some on the inside of the rim and also lots on the tire beads, and also you always start and end by the Valve or you will tear it out while prying by it. Also sometimes you were fighting against the bead with the pry bar, where it was sloped down away from the rim instead of sloped to try and pry it onto the rim, likely the reason you had so much trouble, I've also found crow bars work fairly good aswell if you need something shorter or just need another pry bar while one is still stuck in the bead

Tractor should have been more in the open to start with . Those tire irons are ok..but I use the ken-tool 52 inch x one inch diameter bars...the curved end has a deeper curve for the bigger beads and don't slip out as easy..they aren't cheap..about $150 each last time I looked...but worth every penny . I literally have done thousands of tires.. mostly semi tires..but done them all..and those are the irons I prefer..and I've tried all sorts of variations . Dish soap is ok...but it dries quickly..use a tire mounting lube..it stays wet longer than soap.

Some things are money well spent by taking it to pro's that not only have the right tools but a lot of experience! If your time is worth much then you either will break even or come out ahead and they are responsible for the tubes and tire if they tear it up. But I'm old and bought the same experience you are going through, wish I had listened when I was told this same thing..........

Probably not gonna see this as it’s been over a year since you posted this, however I’ve been a tire technician for years and you could’ve had this done in no time if you had flipped your bars around. The side you were using is mostly for semi tire dismounting, not effective for anything else. The stem tore off the tube because you mounted the tire right over it. The last place you bar when mounting should be near the valve stem and not one bar sooner. Like I said idk if you’ll see this but I hope this helps someone. Good work though, I wouldn’t have gotten this far without any experience on the job. All about the technique not strength!

I only really use that side of the bar when I'm mounting tyres back on rims. For dismounting I use two Michelin Halte levers that have a thin tapered end.

1. Should have wire brushed the rim to clean all the rust away. 2. Lube the tire bead and rim just before inflating. (shaving cream works great but someone may have a better choice) 3. Tubeless if you can or use a tube if you must. JMHO

It's certainly possible to pull that outer bead over before breaking the rear bead. When trying to get that first part of the outer bead over the rim you want to kick the bottom of the tyre so the other side of the same bead drops into the well.

Make sure you know how to use the bars properly and have a good grip, you'll have bruised ribs for sure if you don't. Tireguy by trade (35 plus years and still going strong) I tell the young bucks all the time (no lube no love, or my other saying if you love it lube it) simple as I can put it,believe me they understand it, use your mind not your muscle, cause at the end of the day you will know what you should have used first. It is all about your procedure and how you go about it. I do mining tires and believe me they dwarf Anything compared to them. Use alot of lube on and off ,can't say it enough. Good luck on the right rear, you learned from your first mistakes, next time the last bite with your bar should end at your stem or really close to it,it will not tear your stem.
