I start my MTB journey with my new Giant Trance X E+3. I hit 2 different mtb trails on my first day. I also get that first accident out of the way.

Congrats with your new bike! And welcome to the EMTB club. You will have loads of fun! I got the Giant Trance X E+1 from 2022 and have driven it for 2000 km this year. I got surgery on my hands so I can’t ride the bike for 3 months and it is frustrating me a lot. Can’t wait to ride again.

Thanks! I have really enjoyed this bike so far. Since I review so many ebikes, I haven't been able to ride it as much as I want but I plan on riding it much more in 2024. I hope your hands heal up in time for riding season. Thanks for watching!

I bought the same bike but last years model a month ago. An upgrade from a standard Trance 2 and also my first ebike. What a massive difference, especially hill climbing. It just adds to the fun. Great to see another rider enjoying it👍

I watched the video from when you were in Europe. I knew you were in trouble as soon as I saw that. No comparison between something like this, and the typical E bikes that are being sold quite a lot right now. That was when I subscribed and started following. Not that one is bad and one is good, but they are two different ball games. I kind of thought just from watching the few videos that I had seen from you, that you were gonna partake in both games. L O L congrats. Also appears like you got some really nice technical trails there.

You knew it was coming. There are about 50 different trails all within 2hrs from me. I am going to see how many I can hit this year. This bike is blast, when I don't get thrown from it of course.

This is awesome! I almost pulled the trigger on this exact bike. I have a similar non-electric enduro bike though and I may try a mid-drive conversion kit on it first.

Congrats on the bike and welcome to mountain biking! A word of caution though; the power of that bike can far exceed your abilities and using that power is addicting. Before mountain bikes I rode dirt bikes and eventually wound up with a KTM 500 which was so intoxicating but it nearly killed me. 4 surgeries, 18 pins and rods later I finally could walk and function again. Don’t get cocky, let your guard down or ride beyond your abilities. They will come. I ride the new lighter weight version of your bike and love it. I no longer need a dirt bike as I realized I get just as much adrenaline pumping, and certainly more exercise riding my Trance e Elite, plus I don’t have to have a trailer and have many more riding opportunities close to home. Enjoy that bike; it’s a really great bike!

Thanks for advice. All of this is a learning experience for me. I am taking it slow but I am also trying things that absolutely make my butthole pucker. hahahaha. This is how we get better right? Will be posting my latest Giant Trance video soon.

Sound advice. I'm in the process of switching from a KTM 300 2T to an emtb and trying to figure out which one to buy. I am a huge believer in respecting the throttle. I'm looking at this bike as well as Husqvarna and GASGAS EMTBs. All seem to be around 50 lbs. I can't afford more for lightness though (this bike is $6K in Canada). PS Scott, I love your monologue, I feel like I'm there experiencing it with you. Well done.

I collected my 2023 Giant Trance X E+3 (same color as yours) yesterday. Paid $3,351 for it, brand new out of the box. This will be replacing my 2020 Trek Powerfly FS 5.

Hi Scott, loved this review. I have been riding a specialized hard tail turbo terro 4 but I often wonder about the benefits of dual suspension. I don't do hard core trails at 65 years of age but I do like to be more protected on rutted gravel roads or on sealed roads at speed where potholes catch you out.

Good looking bike. It’s easy to see it’s a high quality bike that’s built for it’s purpose. I’m not sure how I’d handle that kind of riding as the beaten-up, old guy I am. It does look like a lot of fun though. Most of my riding has been on roads and easy trails so the Adventure has worked well for me. But I have been thinking about getting an additional bike. My son has a Specialized Turbo Creo SL Comp Carbon Evo he uses for road and gravel riding. And he recently bought a Turbo Levo SL Comp for more hardcore trail riding. I’ve spent a few hours street riding on both bikes and like both of them. I’d like to attempt to do a more challenging ride on the Levo just to see how I’d hold up to that kind of riding. He seems to think the Levo 5.0 would be a good choice for me but that Giant looks pretty sweet too. But then again, can these old bones handle it? I can picture myself running into plenty of tree and having more than my share of get offs too. lol

I'm an old guy too, 68. 3 hip replacements. It doesn't matter how fast you can go, it's more about what you can manage and as Scott says, take it slow at first. I used to be fast on a dirt bike, but I became more cautious as I aged and still have as much fun. Will be making the switch to an e bike tho.

How do you personally bounce back after a crash? Took a wipeout on my aventure last winter after hitting some thick ice and ever since it's almost like I don't trust the bike to lean or turn as much as I know it can. Curios how after your crash you were able to just jump right back in and keep pushing yourself like that. Awesome bike and trails btw!
@scotthardesty

I spent 26 years in the Army. Some of those years I spent as an Army Ranger. During that time I learned to bounce back quickly and not be afraid of things. You just have to get back up and face your fear. Now when things like this happen to me, I learn from it and then go back to enjoying the ride. You can do it!

How well does this bike ride with the motor off? Would you be able to ride trails still or is it too heavy for that?
@scotthardesty

There have been times when I have stopped to take a break, then starting riding again forgetting that the bike was off. It is possible and isn't that bad at all. Sometimes I don't realize I don't have it on, until I hit a hill, then I know it's not on... hahaha

For the challenge and excitement? Most mountain biking single track riding is about that. Smooth, paved paths are also a lot of fun and there's nothing wrong with choosing either.
