If you follow downhill racing, you already know Neko Mulally has been building and racing his own bike frames under the banner of "Frameworks", but for most of us, this would be unthinkable. For a downhill racer at Neko's level, a bike sponsor is a huge part of your income, your entry fees, and a whole lot more. By giving that up to build his own Frames, all of that is on Neko's plate. Today we're going to find out what would possess this man to do that.

The amount Neko has learned developing these frames is unreal. A fascinating glimpse into what drives a world cup DH racer from a product perspective
@veganpotterthevegan
@veganpotterthevegan 9 ай бұрын
Yup, like learning it's better to have carbon for weight savings so he's starting with the rear triangle. But he knows carbon is better for the rest of the bike too. The money just isn't there for a mold yet. Funny thing is that he says he put his favorite things into this bike which is how a lot of downhill bikes are built. They're simply built to the favorite characteristics of a brand's top downhill racers
@joebruggman

@joebruggman great reason for a full carbon bike. This is a fun project that's obviously an investment into creating a real bike company. Understable that carbon isn't the first material he's using
@joebruggman
@joebruggman 9 ай бұрын
@@veganpotterthevegan yes but the frame is sprung weight so it’s material is not going to affect the ride quality of the bike as much as making the rear triangle carbon, but yes carbon would be the “best”.
@veganpotterthevegan
@veganpotterthevegan 9 ай бұрын
@joebruggman there is a lot more weight savings to be had in the frame than the rear triangle and much of it is higher up which definitely matters.

Virtual Pivot Point! VPP and Remember AMP forks!

Definitely necessary when nobody knew what worked. This bike really doesn't have anything vastly different than other bikes on the market beyond it being made for one person. As a guy with an engineering aptitude (I was a commercial building engineer) it's usually how do we make this better. But also, how can we repair this faster or not repair it as often. Everything breaks. Knowing where they break and why saves a ton of money. Getting to play with materials was never an option for me, but I wish it had been! The empty paper with a design goal in your head and bringing that to reality is so satisfying!
