He dragged it all over the ground/rocks tho. I've heard that that can take off the slime coat and leave the fish susceptible to fungus/bacterial infections and they'll just die shortly after

That's a spawning steelhead they go from the river as a rainbow trout into an ocean or lake phase and almost lose their streak and become chrome l only to come back to the river where they were born to spawn multiple times, that is a steelhead that has been in the river system spawning for awhile hence it's coloration, a fresh ocean or lake phase adult would be silver/chrome. The distinction basically between steelhead and rainbow is the the color and the shape of caudal fin. Steelhead being square rainbow being forked. Still the same fish just in different phases of life.

in america they never get big fish, i watch videos of yous fishing catching like 8 inch fish saying they’re monsters and personal records when it’s hard to catch a fish below like 13 inches here in nz

⁠well yeah… nz is like the trout capital of the world 🤣 don’t get it twisted though the states produce 30-40lb trout also. A 41 pound brown was just caught in Michigan last year.

So what this guy is saying is that he rarely targets trout because of their size? I always thought catching a fish was just a bonus. I mean sure, a little trout may seem pretty lame to some people compared to like some big sharks or tuna, but that's part of sport, or hobby... whatever you want to call it. My favourite type of fishing is small creek fishing for trout and it just gives me a chance to experience the wilderness around me. Most people I know nowadays get frustrated if they don't catch something in the first five minutes. My one friend a couple months ago got frustrated and came and sat behind me and threw rocks at me and into the water while he was on his phone, and also wouldn't leave me alone because he wanted to leave. That made me think really hard, and notice that patience for some people just gets lost. There's nothing wrong with wanting to catch something, or landing a trophy, it's very exciting, it's just that people expect too much. Instead of my friend wanting to go down to river and test our luck, he wants to go fish the little undustrial pond that his Dad works at, for double-didget lb brook trout. By little, I mean the pond is about 20 feet wide and 10 feet long. It takes the joy and the challenge out of fishing in my opinion.

Go fish saltwater and you might get why. Saltwater fish are so much stronger. A rubberlip perch nearly snapped my medium light rod. The fish was less than 2 lbs and the same rod handles trout, carp and catfish like it's nothing. I get what you're saying though. Creek fishing is fun. I like river fishing though. Heavy current produces big fish and interesting challenges.

I couldn't agree more. I took a friend out who I haven't seen in a while and he got bored after about 5 minutes and started playing with weeds. Than all of the sudden I caught a 5 pound bass and he was wondering why he didn't catch it. The best advice I can give to someone like that is "You can't catch fish if you're line isn't in the water".

Trout are really fun to catch, and in my opinion they are some of the hardest fighting freshwater fish for their size Try fly fishing for wild trout, now there's a challenge! First off you need to trick the fish into biting an artificial fly by replicating a bug it's been eating its entire life and then the real challenge is keeping that fish on your barbless hook by constantly keeping pressure on the line, there's probably a 75% chance the trout will be able to spit that barbless hook...

I traveled from Pittsburgh pa to Killington vermont for work. Beautiful place. worked in calcium mine in a replacing ceramic liner in a ball mill. 70 pounds per block. hundreds of blocks, of not over a thousand.

Im hearing you Matt. Went to NZ on a Snowboarding trip 10 years ago Stayed in Twizel, ended up fishing exactly where you are here. Was only 2 ol mates fishing out of a Caravan that was parked up beside the canal. Same rig as these fellas, fish were HUGE!

I have fished N. Z South and North island lakes and rivers. I am in Awe of the size of sea run Brook Brown Rainbows that run up the rivers. Catching anything less than 20 lbs is normal fishing in this country! I fished lake Colridge, Early morning, As the sun started to rise. I used a dry fly, I layed it on the surface lightly striped 2 times and the explosion happened 18 lb Brown. Magnificent fish. I was going to have it mounted. A fisherman comes by sees my fish calls it a pan fish. So I took it home and what a great dinner.

Nowhere near lol, you will catch about 1 fish only 20Ib plus if you spend 5 days there, anything else lucky, to the amount of people and the amount of fish there, they are too well trained. You wanna see how many times the taunt you and kick your ass so hard by jumping out of the water in front of you every few minutes.

On September 5, Saskatchewan fisherman Sean Konrad caught a 48-pound, world-record rainbow trout. The fish came from Lake Diefenbaker, where trout genetically engineered to grow extra-big escaped from a fish farm nine years ago.Sep 15, 2009 similar fish situation....only in Canada
