Nice! I'm a beginner and this is the best explanation of fishtails I've seen yet. Helped me :) Thanks!

WOW This is awesome... I've practicing fishtails hours and hours before I finaly get the feeling for it cause evry tutorial I find said only "you only have to finde the right feeling we're the staff should be" but I think for an beginner this is much more helpful. The steps you choos to get the right feeling for it are realy good.

dude, I've been spinning for 5 years and I never got the fishtail down. I watched your video and practiced for about 2 hours and it suddenly made sense! I can do about 6 or 7 so far, even if they're a bit erratic still thank you!

Something that helped me, I think, is that you should try to turn your palm in the direction you need to move your hand. Then, use your knuckle and maybe even your finger to give the staff a push back towards you (only if going in reverse). So, on your right hand going as it goes behind you, use the back of your index finger and knuckle to push the staff back towards you. On the way to your front, use your pinky finger and knuckle to push it towards your body as you cross over.

You can use old bicycle inner tubes for grip. They work quite well. Contact staves should be made and wielded with a lot of precision and care :) Thanks everybody!

Hey Gib thank you so much for your tutorials! I did the conveyor belt in a couple of houres but I despair of these fishtails!.. The staff allways rolls over my wrist.. don´t you have any idea to do it in some more single parts? further i don´t know what i have to do,that the staff turns in half then in rolls.. (i´m sorry for my grammar,i´m german ;) )

Heavier has always been better for me. They seem to create more momentum than lighter ones do and hopefully won't bend on ya so easily. But to each his own i suppose

Hey Gib, I'm Dave, I am getting into contact staffs. Did staffs in martial arts so I have a little heads up basically. Just been some time since last real play. Any way, I don't know anyone into this so I do not know what a good start would be. As in type or model to buy. Not looking for the best of best staff but best for the cheapest price. Again just seeing how I take to it again and figuring my style. any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Great videos btw!!!
@abbymayer630010 жыл бұрын
buddy where would you suggest buying your first staff? maybe a company in the US to cut down the price... HOP's shipping is almost the price of their staff!

I can't even get the first fishtail :( I've been spending hours simply trying to get it to stay on the back of my hand/wrist and it just won't do what I intend it to do. I've been experimenting for the past several days to no avail..
