Gibson J45 Standard vs Epiphone USA Texan

Quick sound check of my 2021 Epiphone Texan vs my 2019 Gibson J45 Standard. It’s captured by the front camera and mic of my iPhone 11 Pro.
Although the scale length is a bit longer on the Epiphone, it’s super easy to play. Bass has more definition but it sounds brighter than the J45. J45 has a hair more sound projection (it’s been played a bit…) than the Texan but it sounds more mellow.
Build quality is flawless on both instruments and the finish on the Epiphone is a real beauty.

J-45 for me. I love that mellow chocolate sound. Nick Drake style. Deep and warm. Keep your chimes... Gimme the depth!

I noticed these reissue usa texans have scalloped bracing...the 60's texans do not. just a thang to think about.

Thanks for this, I wish I could have the tone of the J45 with the scale of the Texan but that’s not physically possible lol….unless you play lighter strings on the Texan?

Epiphone wins this battle... Sounded like the strings on the J45 were dead!

Not really dead strings, the J45 has always had a mellow sound which I like. I have replaced the strings on the J45 and still it was less brilliant than the Epiphone. Unfortunately I had a bicycle crash last August and couldn’t do another comparison video. As my right shoulder is now less flexible than it used to be, I have sold my jumbo guitars. I still have the Texan but I might sell it or trade it for a parlor sized guitar that will be easier to play for my right shoulder.

Sorry about your shoulder, I hope it improves. I messed up my hand a few years ago, couldn't play for about 9 months! Not fun at all...

I had left shoulder reconstruction a couple of years ago. Don’t sell anything yet. It might come back. Keep working it and get physical therapy. Works wonders. That’s said, the bigger guitars do strain things a little still, but I think with time you might be able to play the dreadnaughts again.

It’s brighter but the strings are not new on the J45. Both guitars are great player but I really like the extra twang on the Epiphone.

@@asafeyal they’re definitely not. But the J45 has always had a mellow sound. I’ll redo another video with fresh strings on both guitars later this summer.

No it doesn't. It sounds DIFFERENT... the J45 has a darker more subdued quality which is PERFECT for some things. Even with new strings, the J45 is simply a darker character instrument. The Texan is brighter and more open... PERFECT for some things.
