Having something handmade to your specifications is an amazing thing. Add to that a level of art and attention to detail and you have a handmade Dark Timber Knife. In this video, I hope to introduce you to Dark Timber and show you what is being produced.

Peter Kohler Brother, you have the best knives I've ever seen. I watched one of your knives sell for over $1000.00 on eBay. Crazy man! I guess I will have to get your production version. It's like impossible to actually get through to you guys. I placed a pre-order of $25, just to get a production one. I'm happy to do it though. Hopefully, you will be capable of making custom knives for a long time man. I wish I would of known about you earlier. Alaska, is slow. Strength and honor, Scott

The first Dark Timber knife I saw profiled was several months ago when Chris Tanner showcased the Dark Timber Grizzly-Hawk that had been crafted for him. He has, since then, also had a neck knife created. I think these knives to be beautiful as is the Grizzly that is presently being reviewed. Gorgeous blades. Now, I've been checking out all kinds of custom made knives since I first became aware of my love for knives, and they can indeed be expensive. Thousands of dollars in some cases. For the Dark Timber, what you paid for this knife is reasonable beyond thinking. In fact, I am shocked knowing the blood, sweat, and tears (perhaps some grumbling) that went in to the manufacture of this knife. Good for you, Aaron. Enjoy the Dark Timber. I like these reviews because they keep me current and let me know the options that are out there if I don't happen to stumble on them myself.

This knife is simply freaking ridiculous!! Whenever I stumble upon this vid, I always watch it at least once more. And who are the 16 that gave this video a thumbs down?? Y'all 16 need to be rounded up....and given warm hugs, because it's painfully obvious to me that you did not receive the parental love you so desperately needed & deserved as a youngster.

You mentioned how you really liked Mad Max, seen the new version yet? Max wears a paracord bracelet thats adjustable. One of my new favorites. No buckles, more reliable, easy to take apart, be cool to see a Dark Timber with a kydex sheath made to look more post apocalyptic. I bet Peter can make that set up pretty epic.

Great vedio I read enjoyed seeing the blade put through its paces. I am on the on the list for a Grizzly as well as a smaller blade so it's nice to see how you enjoyed using it. I really like the Baldrick option. I originally was going to get one because I just thought it would be a cool option. However after seeing you whare on I can really see how that would be handy to through on or when your belt space is valuable real-estate .

W2 seems to almost be a bastard steel, not a tool steel and not really a spring steel although it appears to be related to the 1095 spring steel family. With that handle design I think the finger rest is nothing more than a different style choil and a waste of cutting edge length. Still a pretty awesome looking knife.

Dark Timber never disappoints, would love to see this knife up against the Dulo Viking Knife and another hardcore Mad Max semi custom knife. The Dulo Viking knife is off the hook w A8mod steel, truly a beast just like the DarkTimber. Love the customizability. Dulo has that as well.

Great Video Aaron; The Dark Timber Grizzly is and has been my Holy Grail Knife for quite a long while now, only thing I am waiting on is those ever- fleeting greenbacks. But that will come in time. I think you are right on the front of the handle needs to be beefier but I like your idea for the flair on the backend, I had an idea of putting a small hammer pole on the backend, so I could totally supplant the need for a Hatchet, though I never will give up my saw.............. anyhow that's my idea, Really love that DT Grizzly

Great review. I'm so glad that you are pleased with this knife. From what I have seen at the Dark Timber web site his quality is top notch. It is good to hear that his pre-sale customer service is as you described. Such service goes a long way to insure that your money is wisely spent. When I first saw this Grizzly in one of your postings I knew that you would like that deer's foot handle. This is a shape that has been used for axes and hatchets for a very long time. Apparently it also works well for large knives that will be used for chopping tasks. All of this leads to one final question. Would you do it again?

That's an interesting point you make with it being a "backpacker's knife" because you don't want to carry the extra weight of a knife and ax. Of course, I've had fun watching guys say they want a survival knife that will do it all and then months later they say they don't want a knife that will do it all and will always carry an ax. Remember, native people have being using a "do it all" knife for millennial....called the machete or even the pa-rang. You don't see a guy in the jungle carrying an ax, because the pa-rang does it all for them. Thanks for putting confidence back into the all in one knife.

The only reason people in the jungle use parangs is often the foliage is so dense one would need to really clear a path to move around. Different tools for different jobs. You wouldn't use a axe to clear brush and you wouldn't use a parang or machete to build a log cabin.
@alaskankare
@alaskankare 8 жыл бұрын
yeah, but you aren't building a log cabin for emergency survival. Don't the tribes in the jungle use their parangs to cut down small stuff to make their shelters while traveling or hunting?

I love Yellow Hawk, but a Grizzly just begs for Leather. By the way, have you planned a hunting trip with Peter? I would still love to see you get into hunting. You really dont know what your missing.

Say Heah Aaron, I don't cut into your video with a knife your reviewing on purpose . But I just used a knife and ordered mine,, I basically do what you do in the bush. The knife and I alway'ss wanted one, But I got the Fox Hitam Golok instead. But I had to have a Fox Bushcraft Parang, Yeah it look's tactical, But it also has bushcraft and parang in it's name. For sure, I like around a 7" blade fir my survival knife, But then it has a managable 6" cutting edge . It's not too heavy and comes with a survival tin that you can attach to the sheath, almost a complete package, Yeah, I'm sure you can dig with it too, It's lite on chopping but on the smaller stuff no problem, The steel is N690Co. Yeah, check it out. ,, .

Think I would rather grab a Condor Mini Parang. Craftsmanship and quality look great.
