I've had good luck with Merrell shoes & boots. Very durable & lightweight. Love the Vibram soles. Great review!

Another comparable model is their new Moab Flight & Moab Speed. The cushion is softer but has a 10mm heel drop. The Nova 2 has an 8mm. All are lightweight! Thanks for sharing!

Picked up a couple pairs of these after watching your review. Hate to say it, because I really loved how these looked and how comfortable they were, but they almost killed me yesterday. Took them out for their second hike (they’re less than 3 weeks old) and as I got back to the car, I noticed something off under my feet. And by “off”, I didn’t think I’d find that the lugs on the tread were actually peeling off in strips, but that’s exactly what I found. The outer lugs on both shoes were almost completely detached. I can’t count how many times on this hike I had only a couple inches of worth of rock to place my feet, with nothing but certain death beneath me. Had one or two of those lugs come off completely, I wouldn’t be here writing this. I don’t know if both my shoes were defective, but I will never ever go anywhere near another Merrell product again. I’ve owned countless hiking shoes/boots with Vibram soles and have NEVER had an issue with the lugs peeling away from the sole. And again, this was only their second time on the trail. Do yourself a favor and really reconsider the quality of these. I don’t care if they seem fine on flat ground/dirt. If you find yourself in a situation like I was in yesterday where traction can mean the difference between life and death, you could be in for a rude awakening with these. If you’re reading this and thinking about purchasing these, please please please, consider something else. I’m not talking about an eyelet that broke or a hole in the fabric. I’m talking about a potentially catastrophic issue.

Your review convinced me to try these. Going on my first camping/hiking trip to the Isle of Skye in a few days. Got the green mid and low top version (plan was to return a pair using the free Amazon delivery). Decided to keep both! As you said - they look good, are comfortable, good sole, waterproof etc.

The first thing I look at when I buy any cushioned footwear is the material that the cushion is made of and that’s the midsole. I stay away from EVA foam. Polyurethane foam doesn’t lose its cushion ability like eva. Eva foam goes flat on me in 3 to 6 months of daily wear. I have no idea what Merrell’s midsole is made of. I’ll have to check them out. I like that outsole tread.

I love my Merrell Moab 2’s.. I saw a SEAL wearing them on an op and thought they must be pretty decent...now I just keep buying them...

I have the low Gore Tex, which I love. Take them backpacking on rugged, rocky trails with a 30-ish pound pack. Great traction. *However*, the outer portion of the soles peeled off on both shoes. I contacted Merrell, which said it looked like a manufacturing defect and refunded the cost. I rebought the same shoe in a different color. Used them once so far on a short backpack this weekend. Hopefully the soles will be more durable because they are so comfortable.

Those shoes look pretty awesome; I like the tread on the soles. Gotta get a new pair of hiking shoes. The sole on one of my 10-year-old hiking boots actually peeled off on a hike this past summer. Made for an interesting 2-mile hike back.

My current hiking shoes are the Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX, and I've liked them quite a bit, but have had some pain in my feet on longer hikes, and have had traction issues on wet surfaces when around streams or lakes. If you have experience with both, how would the mid tops compare in terms of breathability and weight?

Awesome video, very informative. I was wondering if these shoes have a built in shank for arch support like my Merrell Moab tactical boots. I have extremely flat feet and my Moab 2 and 3 Tactical Boots really help with pain relief. I was hoping that these sneaker style shoes might have the same arch support and comfort. Your knowledge and advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I am a Merrell fan and bought a few pairs of various models some of them have a Vibram sole some a "softer" sole. The Chameleon the I bought in 2012 remains my favourite. However, all of them are slippery on wet rocs (in the rain of crossing a stream). Does Nova2 Mid show any improvement on that front?

I was glad to find out they have a completely vegan & sustainable lineup including the Nova 2's I've pulled off the Range AC's with business attire at job interviews and gotten complements on top of it.

If you were hiking through water and submerged them how fast do you feel they would dry?

I'm a big Ontario 85 lover but sadly they discontinued them. This looks like the spiritual successor for them considering the spec's (albeit more modern looking). Made a purchase on the Nova 3's based on this video, hoping they turn out as good as you think the Nova 2's are!

Merrel moabs are mean! I use a pair every 2 yrs and they get salt water alot, I will have try these ones. I was also told by a merrel rep that say popular ones they will alway continue
