What's your go-to round this wipe in the midgame?

This is great, i was already a big fan of PP (that sounds wrong). Was a great cheap round to take into a farming run with an AK74U. If I died and lost two mags full it was no biggie, and it worked very well.

The 7.62x54r BT change is probably significant because the scavs now spawn with it. I can see it being the new most common variant of that calibre.

Great video, I think 5.45 aks are definetly going to see a resurgence this wipe. The VSS/VAL changes are odd, never saw anyone running those guns last wipe why nerf them so hard?

7.62 PS is life. Surprised they buffed it though, I never felt it was a weak round considering how cheap it is.

Quite a shame about the 9x39 nerf. Pretty much what I mained once sp5 became available. Was very slept on last wipe using it in semi auto

i'm annoyed with 5.45, because of it's low dmg. basically all the rounds 3 tap the thorax at best, while people will survive headshots with igolnik and bs ammo. a rifle round flying through someone's head should be lethal, but it's not.

Hey Gigabeef, it's me again. That MCX fanboy dude from your MCX video. Thanks for all your cool videos. I don't know why this change isn't in the tarkov wiki and generally flew under the radar but the .300 blackout M62 round also got a pen buff from 34 to 36. At least according to the tarkov-changes site. Is it untrue? Veritas' battle buddy also has that changed already. It still has the same damage of 54 and I think those 2 pen, as you said, make a big difference. 5.45 BT will generally 3 tap class 4 now because of the damage nerf. .300 M62 will also 3 tap but has a decent potential of 2 tapping class 4 armor. Because of the relation of penetration chance and armor damage it will also wear down class 5 a lot faster than before. 6 thorax shots to kill someone with a Gzhel. Same as 5.45 BT, even with the pen buff to 40 pen. And then MCX wins with the higher fire rate. In my opinion high fire rate is also, counter intuitively, an advantage for longer ranges because it comes with a faster reset between shots. So you can tap faster. MCX becomes viable at lvl 23 with peacekeeper 3. Low recoil from the baskak stock build plus these rounds. People always hate the MCX for the horizontal recoil but close range its not important and mid/long range you have to tap anyway so it's a non issue. If you could beam this thing at 50m still it would be pretty overpowered. You mentioned in the MCX video that the big problem is that .300 AP is so limited. Probably now .300 M62 is a worthy round to mix with AP.

I've been running PP for a few hours this wipe, and it's excellent. Of course, most people aren't wearing C4 yet. I wonder if the buy limit from Prapor will be reduced. Then again, it's the same price or a little less on the flea market at the moment.

Few wipes ago vss/val and sp5 were my go to but now its just too expensive.

Great video! I think it's worth noting that recoil this patch is significantly more manageable, so the MCX could end up meta!! Plus the VSS/VAL are slightly more usable than before, though I think the ammo nerfs were undeserved, and SP6 will become the go to round for these weapons

Too bad the MCX just doesn't have enough quality attachments to drive prices down. There's really only one good way to build it, which is massively expensive, and given the high base cost you can't even decently run it budget either. AKM style guns just do everything it does at half the cost, and the meta mutant does everything the MCX does but better. I want to love it, but until it gets more attachments and build variation, it will always be expensive.

7.62x54R PS (old 7n1) got it's damaged reduced from 86 to 84, so less chances of one tapping to the thorax. Although with damage fall off I'm not really sure how consistent one tapping thoraxes was last wipe. xD

I'm highly fond of the MCX Blackout. Seeing the love the AP round is getting warms the cockles of my heart. Hopefully I'll be able to buy more than 90 rounds every 4 joutsm

i been using PP for ages has its always been a great mid lv for ap and flesh pen its my go to ammo for AKs

they also changer 7.62x54r from 86dmg-84dmg no long a one tap at close-ish range

I ran BCP FMJ Last Wipe in Late Game to great effect, its a pretty good round dude !

To buff 7.62*39 PS even more, they seem to be everywhere this wipe. I've yet to buy a single round from Prappor, and yet to unlock lavatory and the nutrition station (because I suck), but I already have 8 full stacks of PS in my inventory, all from looting. (Around 120 from ammo packs)

One thing that upset me with this wipe was that I am no longer able to buy 30round 7.62x39 mags any more at level 1 traders.

The only reason I could see Nikita changing the 9x39 is to make the VSS/AsVal some sort of sniper but even that makes little sense as they don’t have the best range.

I was using SPP and SP-6 last night and I had to put a full mag into a Class 3 Zhuk armor. Was excited for it now a little disappointed

i still think the recoil change was really dumb and it makes it feel like the PMC is a person who has never seen a gun in his life instead of a highly trained killer.

Damn I felt the PS when I killed a player with class 4 and had to double check what ammo I was running.

Maybe it's because I also have a video game gun review channel, but I really love this kind of content. 10/10 with 0 recoil.

PS in the SKS hasn't been working great for me so far.

Within the first 4 raids of the new wipe i found class 5 and 6 armor lol, only to lose them both from a pmc headshot and a scav i somehow didnt headshot 4 times already, thanx moa. Been farming trade for 7.62 ak super reliable right now its a beast.

I got really lucky in raid and found really good gear including a fresh Class 4 Bastion helmet.. I got 1 tapped to the head through the helmet by 7.62x39mm PS.. I'm still salty a week later lol.. Why does the base round have to have such a good chance to pen the most used mid armor class in the game

They (I would hope) do this for us shitters out there. Myself and most of the eft community suck or can't get the meta ammo all the time or ever. They gave us a ray of hope to stand up some. And last wipe, PP 5.45 was my go to. Such a good round, good damage and the pen was great for being so stupid cheap on the market

Instead of buffing the ak rounds they should have buffed m855 5.56 because its really hard to get m856a1 as apposed to BP 5.45 and pp 5.45

Its really annoying they didnt buff penetration on .300 M62 tracer, round is extremely underwhelming for how late you get it being peacekeeper level 3. I guess the gun is still unusable untill endgame, really sucks.

Buffing the pen is always a good thing but it looks like they only touched the soviet ammo to be better, which is BS because the NATO counterparts (5.56 & 7.62) are in every way superior irl.

Not just that, they still haven't added more sources to obtain higher pen ammo of the lower calibers (9x19mm, .45 ACP, etc). Raiders don't use it, and for a long while crafting AP 6.3 and .45 ACP AP will be very expensive. And for why? .45 ACP AP and AP 6.3 has considerably worse stats (since they are smaller calibers) than 7.62x39mm PS ammo. I just wish BSG would morph the meta to where more calibers are more viable in gameplay. That's not to say it's impossible to use, you'll just be at a bigger disadvantage, and in Tarkov, any tiny bit of advantage is extremely important.

I have got shit tons of 7.62x54R BT from my player scav spawning in with the new single shot rifle. I also found an AI scavs with over 80 rounds of it.

You missed one that I think is important: 7.62x54r PS ammo no longer one taps thorax. The damage has come down from 86 to I think 84 or 82.

why are you bringing up fragmentation on the .300 when the game doesn't use any values above 20%?

@Gigabeef the analysis of SP-5 and SPP is missing one factor -- armor damage percentage. These rounds already chewed through armor with 60 and 55% armor damage, which is irrelevant when the bullet pens. By keeping the armor damage percentage the same and buffing the damage, this makes those rounds even more viable as armor busting rounds, even against high class armor.

I've been using a aks-74u atm that's pretty decked out (nice foregrip, ak12 mags/gen 3 ak mags) and I have gotten into some awesome gunfights with it! (Been using US ammo with it (unfortunately i am running low on US ammo now :( )

sold all the starter gear it gives me and just get SKS'S having an incredible wipe so far. LVL 12 in like 5 hours. and 2 scav junkboxes almost full

My go-to-round is 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 BP and then M80...That is my Midwipe caliber... I think i didnt play 9x39 this wipe, this rounds are dead.

Why would you buff the most popular caliber of bullet? Makes no sense, its already hard to use other calibers as is (excluding .308) Edit: I just saw they nerfed 9x39 LMAO I cant take BSG serious anymore.

I would hazard a guess that the 7.62 and 5.45 x39 changes are to take the crown away from 7.62x51's utter dominance of previous wipes where once you got to that calibre, it was what many people would use to exclusion.

Im glad 5.45 is better both performance and cost wise, but i wish m855 got some buffs, maybe less recoil and slightly better pen for vs level 3

The meta is going to be .308 again. It should be super rare to find anything that can pen above level 2 and the traders should only sell "level 2" gear. At higher rep it would be cheaper and they could have barters that change procedurally for small amounts of higher end items.

I like that 7.62x39 AK and MCXs so I like the PS and AP round penetration increase. Even through PS may not be necessary. Don't know about SP-5 Through... why Hate it so much.

I used to use the Val all the time with sp5 cause it was so good at piercing tier 5 quickly. Now it can’t even pierce tier 4 quickly 😭😭😭 Guess I’m not using the Val this wipe 😖

MCX was terrible not because of ammunition, but for it's horrendous recoil and AP round limit of 90 pcs per trader reset. they don't spawn on raiders/rogues and you can't craft them, so you have to wait for 6 hours to play a single raid with this gun

And yet 556 just remains subpar

Finally my love of 5.45 aks becomes viable. I was waiting for buffs like this, times of super budget aks are back. You can run a 74 with barely any atachments and ammo thats suoer cheap and be efective against armor

The change was prob made so people with less time on their hands had a better chance in mid/late wipe

I don’t chase meta’s. Been using ps/bp 7.62x39 since I’ve started many many wipes ago. Then I move up to m995 or 55a1 later on when I rock m4’s. I sprinkle in some 556x46 aks-74u early game too but usually BT ammo which was everywhere on reserve. Bs as well. Another early game variant I’ve used is pp-19-01 pstgzh. Cheap gun that does some decent work early on and is easily modded at low levels. Costs 4 t plugs. Doesn’t get much cheaper than that. Never did the vss/mp(insert number here) metas. Didn’t play much last two wipes either so I def didn’t do the new metas. Imo it’s better to pick a gun you like, that you are used to than chase what “the streamers” are using. Pretty sure people who play tarkov for a living are going to kill you with a TT pistol just as easy as a full meta (insert fotm gun here). Map awareness/pathing awareness/sound/ map knowledge are far more important in general.

I just wish they would put these stats in the game in an easy chart. I hate having to watch a 3 hour master course on ammo types instead of just logging on

7.62 ps didnt need a buff in the first place honestly, but now that it did, i think there's 0 reason it shouldnt be moved to prapor level 2 or locked behind an early quest, just about no reason to use anything else early wipe

I ran PP through end game last wipe and it was still performing well. I'm honestly a little sad it was buffed because now people will realize how good it is and the flea market stock will get hovered up by cost meta slaves. At least propor is still fixing the market.
