I live in the U.S,& the first time I saw him was when he was playing for England ( Vs Greece or Turkey? In 2003) And I didn't have a clue who he was but he grabbed my attention& I asked a young England fan ( in a Pub) who he was& he stared at me with a puzzled look& said ' That's Rooney' amazed that I hadn't heard of him! And then I saw him playing for United in 2004 ( when I was back in England) and we know the rest! Yep he was a special Talent!

Most people look past Mike Tyson’s transgressions because he brought the world joy when he clobbered his opponents. He was a ticking time bomb in his 20’s. =Total beast from 18-23 before skills started to diminish due to lack of training and having too many distractions in his life along with leeches and gold fighters like his ex-wife. Then was convicted of raping a woman and was sentenced to 6yrs in prison served 3+ yrs. and became a Muslim before being paroled and released. He was a shell of his former self and even the goons Don King lined up for him to pummel on his way back to a title fight gave him trouble before he fought Evander Holyfield for the title and was DQ’d for attempting to eat Holyfield’s ear. He was a deranged madman that need help. Apparently he’s found it and is in a better place.

He looked insane at that Euros. I remember that Fenerbace game too. It felt like watching the emergence of a generational talent. I know he kind of tailed-off at the end of his career but at the start he was a monster. He looked like a man at 16 and he was skilful with so much aggression too. I think younger people think he's overrated or something, but for about 5-6 years at least he was immense

You have to put the respect on Rooney's name to get a hat trick on your debut for a club that should hate you, in the biggest club competition in the world at 18 and take the ball of a legend and do something with it was special, i can still remember that night. Honestly he is probably the greatest striker I've ever watched live consistently. Granted, Ronaldo was around Tevez, Torres, Suarez etc but to do it in the most competitive league in europe from 16 and consistently be an 8 out of 10 player every game 👏.

I remember this game like it was yesterday , I just started my second year at college and watched this game on ITV after . I was so amazed by this kid, he had so much natural talent at the time, belief ,strength , determination and aggression. I said it at the time , hes like a region Gazza but could play across the front three of any team . There's not any players that have all that these days at such a young age.

Possibly the most complete footballer of all time,capable of scoring banging volleys ,yet also tracking back for goal line clearances. No 3 in the M10 v CR7 generation.

Agreed that he peaked early. Burnt bright and then burnt out. By 30 he was a shadow of the player he’d been. Apparently he didn’t train enough and never did any gym work, smoked, poor diet.
