Seriously miss getting out of church on Sundays growing up and catching the first few minutes of the Pats game on the radio on the car ride home listening to Gil's voice. Guy just set the tone for football Sundays in New England

Of course I didn't hear this call live, was hearing the TV broadcast, but I remember being young and tuning in to the radio to hear Gil cause there was no TV broadcast cause of some weird blackout rule...yes believe it or not, home Patriot games were not televised some time, wtf

I got chatting with my 8 year old son about the 2001 Patriots. I told them about 6th round Tom Brady coming in after franchise QB and mega contract Drew Bledsoe was almost killed in a sideline hit by Mo Lewis in week 2. It was the hit that altered the course of Patriot and NFL history forever. I had to come and watch this again, it’s been so long it’s easy to forget how absolutely incredible that season was to watch unfold each week.

Agree. Every now and then I come back to this video just to hear this. Was 12 years old when the Patriots won and 97 was my first time going to a game. Love Gil Santos.

Everyone forgets that 9/11 was only a few months before the PATRIOTS were in SB36. We were truly America's team that year and everyone was rooting for us. Can't say the same is true now but it is important to make the distinction for those that were not watching then and didn't have the context

Shit, hearing Gil goes back to when I was a kid and he was the only place we could hear or watch or anything else because of the blackout rules at the time. SO GLAD he was able to call the first three championships. Damn, I miss that voice.

Miss these guys, I didn't have tv that year, being young and just married but I listened to every game, I was the only one around my circles who knew what the Patriots were doing, the fact they had the Rams beat earlier in t he year gave me hope, I knew Brady was special, hearing every game from these was absolutely the best, WHAT A GAME

That game sure erased a lot of bad memories - particularly of the '76 divisional playoff game and the phantom RTP call against Sugar Bear Hamilton. I was 8 (almost 9) and I thought my dad was going to blow a gasket. Awful.

still remember this call. I was 8 at the time. Although I had watched football before this, the 2001 season/post-season was the first season I have memories of.
