What people are not paying attention to is the average heights. NBA is 6-foot-6.5-inches and WNBA is 6 feet 0.7 inches. How many 6'0 or 6'1 NBA players actually dunk in games, not many at all on a 10 ft rim. How many 6'6 or 6'7 NBA players dunk basically all of them. You lower the rim to adjust to even the size differences.

Let's be 100% real here. I have taken my daughter to a few WNBA games...they can ball. The problem is the entertainment factor. They are slower, smaller, and overall less athletic than the men's game. That said, IF the goal is to bring in more revenue, which will allow the league to pay the players more, then accepting suggestions on how to make the game more exciting to watch is beyond needed. However, lowering the rim isn't going to make the players more athletic or their game more exciting. As far as what they can do, I have no idea, but keeping everything as is would be a huge mistake.

When the season-ending awards were being handed out (MVP, Coach of the Year, etc...) it was revealed that some smart-ass East Coast writer voted for "the rim" as Defensive Player of the Year. The start of this clip had me worried, but as they got into it, they were actually on the right track for dialogue into how to actually fix the WNBA. And I think that highlights the BIGGEST problem the WNBA has. No one is allowed to just have a conversation about this and see it through to the end. Someone is always interrupted, or shot down, or accused of something and it derails it. But despite people starting in ways that seemed like the typical "I didn't do anything wrong it's all you" everyone's actual ideas were real and on track. The biggest determining factor here is the fans that buy tickets. If the fans aren’t interested in watching, then there is nothing to argue. Just like the tv shows in the past that got cancelled. They were cancelled because not enough people watched the show. Point is you can’t fault anyone for not watching the game. I actually like the team effort they give but there are fans around the world that want dunks and a lot more things those women don’t do to be added to the game. The nba supporting them won’t do much for them seeing that the fans are the determining factor for them based on watch time.

I am against lowerig the rims, and I will tell you why. No one cares much about the WMBA and it won't change if they lower the rims, but what WILL change, is that the lower rims will become the standard for women's College and High School basketball, which will require a percentage of rims to be lowered everywhere, and since adjustable height backboards are not practical, it means the places that now have 10' rims will end up with half at 10' and the other at whatever the women's standard becomes. It will have to happen at parks and other public courts as well because of "equality". Even in places women don't play, if the opportunity to play at their standard isn't the same as it is for men, somebody is going to sue. Lowering the height for the WNBA is going to rapidly effect the number of places men will have available to play and practice. If these women realize just how much lowering the rim for them will negatively affect men's basketball at ever level below the NBA, they will be begging for it as a way to say "F" You to everyone they feel didn't support them. I hope everyone drops this idea about lowering the rims ASAP before somebody does it.

Like we tell them, we don’t want you to have a BBL, have your natural own hair, don’t wear make up that’s too crazy, and then women will turn around and tell us what we like instead of listening to what we like. Nobody talks about G-Leaguers deserving more attention and money. The reality is people just gravitate more towards the bigger, more electrifying league. It's the WNBA's responsibility to figure out how to entice more people to watch. If that's lowering the rims to give the players more options, so be it.

This conversation is redundant. The problem isn't the fact that the WNBA is playing good/bad basketball (aka the product). The problem is the fact from a consumer standpoint, the WNBA product is not what "real target" consumers wants. All of this is an entertainment issue. All of the other suggestions in this vid (from Gil and others) are secondary changes that will definitely help progress the game but won't fix the main problem. The 2 basic tenant of business is Supply and Demand, where the most important of the 2 is demand (consumers) since it drives supply (product). Everyone keep trying to say the target consumers of the WNBA is people who like bb but anyone who took a basic economics/business class knows that the is a gross understatement. The real target audience of the WNBA should be women. Unfortunately the female market don't care about bb, (this is why other means of entertainment the Housewives, Kardashians, etc are not involved in these types of conversation about their viewership). As much as men support the WNBA, the majority of men aren't watching it since they already have a product that for them that tailors to the thing men like (men like sports and have the NBA). The "lowering the rim: idea will only bring more male audience but it wouldn't really fix the real problem (low female viewership). If the goal was to increase male viewership putting WNBA in more revealing outfits would be a lot more profitable than "lowering the rim". Now of course this idea is not the answer since it takes away from the WNBA truly stands for and what these women are trying to accomplish. Instead, what the WNBA and NBA needs to do is figure out how they directly appeal to the common modern women. Once they can provide that aspect to the game, the WNBA will flourish. But until then, they'll continue to be a business that is subsidized by the NBA.
