Loved Gil Scott-Heron for many years. B Movie is one of my all time favorite political commentaries, as apropos today as it was in '81 (or sadly, more apropos than ever today). For those who think Gil wasn't a star, I can think of no greater evidence of cultural and social device. Amongst EVERY black person I know over 30 and EVERY awoken person altogether Gil is and has been held in the highest esteem for over 50 years and counting.

I remember his music from my youth, but I never knew his name until today, as I was a toddler back then. Beautiful music which I was able to find through searching the lyrics of the song from the radio. Lovely.

I was fortunate enough to meet him in DC when he used to come to the lounge on Rhode Island Ave., and perform and warm up for Shoals and also over the Kenilworth Park and Northeast his music is mine blowing and it was a blessing to meet him on several occasions way before his time a real legend

Thank you so much for uploading this! I saw this as an innocent, relatively sheltered white boy from London in the mid-1980s (it was actually broadcast on UK national TV, late at night). I was about 14 and already getting into jazz and fusion. I didn't really understand the social and black consciousness issues he was dealing with but his music immediately made an impact on me and I knew that there "must be something" there (to quote the title of one of his songs). I'd seen his records in the jazz section of my local second-hand record store but never picked them up. The next day I went and picked one of them up. An absolutely unique genius, stunning artist and poet. F*** racism!

I first heard GSH when I was living in Korea and a friend played one of his CDs for me and I fell in instant thrall with the song The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. That was my first year of eight in Korea, back in 2003. About five or six years later I was in a funk and motown band and we played Lady Day and John Coltrane which was just one of my favorite songs to play! I really love the drummer and bass player's groove and Gil is such an great poet with wonderful rhythm and phrasing. Really all of the musicians are amazing and have an excellent groove. Now so many years later I'm back home in Canada after spending time living in the UAE, Mongolia, and Brunei and I've never forgotten how his music makes me feel, but until lately I hadn't really heard much else besides that one CD my friend first played for me and which I immediately had to get a copy of. Now I've just started jamming with a few guys on my own solo stuff with is beat poetry jam band music I guess, and I've been working on a tribute of sorts to his song "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" which I've started composing, just the lyrics so far, a work in progress, which I find it hard to find time to work on much because my masters study is keeping me pretty busy, but I did a little little bit more today. I can't wait till the day I can finish it, put the band behind it, and get it going. I wish I could have met him, talked to him, heard him play live, and even if I'd ever been so lucky, had the chance to jam with him. Maybe I'll get luckiest of lucky and cross paths with some of the muzos who played with him someday and get to jam with them and have a conversation. If not I'll just have to have my conversations with him and my imagination through his music which ain't that bad, to be honest! So glad I typed his name in and found something I hadn't heard before. I listened to this whole concert tonight as I've been pulling an all-nighter trying to finish my assignments, and it's been great company for the evening, though a bit distracting as I want to just give it my full undivided attention. I usually listen to instrumental music when I'm studying, my favorite go to often starting with Herbie Hancock, Headhunters and wherever else I end up, maybe some Jeff Beck, Polyphia, Billy Cobbham, Stone Rebel, Prince's Jass Funk Sessions 1977 Instrumental, The Meters, Brass Against the Machine, Jazz is Dead etc, and often just any random instrumental stuff that pops up on either KZfaq or Spotify after I pick a playlist, genre, or starting artist. This is the last course of my master's degree, which I've been loving doing, but I feel so excited for the fact that in about a month I'm going to be able to spend a whole lot more time and attention concentrated on music. Gil will definitely be on the rotation!

Every piece of music he recorded I purchased, not a scratch on one LP, reason is because I recorded each LP on Cassette. Then put the LP back in the jacket, taped up the cover and never used it again like every LP I did them all the same way. This Brother is a great lose, something caused this great spirit to fall into something that’s hard to get out of. Drugs is the cause of Death of many Geniuses. Rest in piece Brother Gill Scott-Heron you are truly missed by many you have touched.
