Amplified - Classic Rock & Music History

Жыл бұрын

BLACK WAX is a compelling film that seamlessly blends music and politics, brought to life through the creative vision of producer and director Robert Mugge. Focusing on the remarkable journey of the late Gil Scott-Heron, an influential African American poet, singer, and songwriter, the documentary delves into his profound impact on music as the esteemed precursor to rap. With the talented Midnight Band by his side, Scott-Heron's powerful performances transcend entertainment and carry a resounding political message. Meticulously restored from the original 16mm film, the documentary is presented in high definition, preserving its essence with utmost care and affection.

@@LawndaleLancaster-qg1vk I am a true fan of Gil. One of my favorite artist of all time. Through music he definitely tried to enlighten us, but he wasn't the first. Through music there was Nina Simone, The Last Poets, Harry Belafonte, Mahalia Jackson, James Brown, Odetta, Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke. Outside of music there was Stokley Carmichael, James Farmer, Malcolm x, Earl Little father of Malcom x, Martin Luther King, Ida B Wells, Marcus Garvey, John Lewis, Frederick Douglas and many more! You've been enlightened!!

I had the pleasure of seeing Gil in concert in the mid 80s - great stuff . Ronnie Holloway, one of his horn players who appears in this film, is still active playing in the area, and also often sits in with many jam bands in the East Coast. Another horn player who appears here, Vernon James, had been playing the Wilmington area until he sadly passed away in early 2017. His son, Vernon James Jr , carries on the traditional of wonderful sax work !
