You gotta remember Gil never won in college, the NBA, and didn’t make the 08 Olympic squad. He was a real good player who won nothing. So this stance lets him feel great about his own career. With that being said, I’d take the money.

This is why the game isn’t as competitive as it once was. Players don’t care if they win or lose, long as they get paid for playing. MJ said all of the money, endorsements, fame, etc came from the work he put in to WIN. Also it’s hard to know the value of winning a championship if you never won a championship. With money you can buy all the material things that comes with a ship. But you can’t buy that moment in time or that experience of winning a championship.

Most of the time, the reason why many former players sell their championship ring, or rings, because they did not do right by their finances. 2 different types of winner : - Winner in Life : Depends on your definition of winning, getting to the NBA is winning, winning Rookie of the Year is winning, winning an MVP is winning, Playing for your favorite team, being able to provide for your family with basketball is winning, Playing 15 years in the NBA is winning ( even if you average 8pts 4assists 3 rebs ) ... You get my point. - Winner in basketball : Winning a game, Winning a tournament. Period. Winner of the tournament is the Champion. Since Basketball is a team game, everyone in the winning team are called CHAMPIONS. They will all tell the story ... We were in that Bulls team that was NBA Champions in " X " year. It's an experience. Gil's question : James Harden ( 300M $ - 0 rings ) or Robert Horry ( 57M $ - 5 rings ). Who would you pick ? Pick them for what ? Winning a basketball championship for human race against the aliens, if we loose we all die. Granted they play for with their respective teams ? Answer : Robert Horry. Winning some money to provide for your family & build generational wealth ? Answer : James Harden. One of one game : Answer : James Harden ( maybe ) Catching a rebound at the last minute of a game 7 : Answer : Robert Horry. Such an vague question.

The comparison realistically is for a player who has an option to take the money or chase a ring. Not between a role player and a superstar like Horry and Harden. So it would be take 40 million a year or take 30-35 million with a good chance to win. In which case I would go for the rings. Or for a role player choosing between 12 or 8 million.

You changed ya generation to come being draft . Now you have a lifetime connection. Eddy curry Telfair walker blew they money so money apparently isn't everything. I'll rather have a winning story 7 rings 60 mill my kids kids kids gone get paid talkn about how I got 7 rings and how they turned that 60 million to 1 billion. @@HONCHOSPORTZ100 lol nothing I wrote said that money was everything. The vast majority of NBA players that ever played didn't make generational changing wealth. Most players that play now aren't even in the league long enough to leave a legacy behind, and on top of that, the vast majority are broke soon after leaving the league. You think these players are going pro after high school or one year of college just to win? The vast majority of them are doing it because of the money, to help their families. So don't act so naive. You're talking about winning...MJ made more annually from his first Nike deal than his NBA rookie contract. They promoted the hell outta him, but he was a loser for his first 3 seasons. Karl Malone is one of the winningest players in history, but he's made more money since he left the league than when he was in the league because he was smart enough to make investments and start a business. His business alone makes $2 mil annually. Never won a ring. Won many individual awards. One of the greatest to ever play the game. Legacy set in the league and away from the league. But we have countless NBA champions who are broke or working 9 to 5s now, who will be working the rest of their lives. Do you think they would rather the championships or the $500 mil? Be realistic.
