We are using 2025 to group all the videos relating to Pipes & Drums, and the HCSO (Hamilton County Sheriff Office, Cincinnati, Ohio) and LCPD (Lee County Pipes and Drums, Ft. Myers, Florida) and other pipe and drum videos. These are all from our personal video recordings or from TV broadcasts for which there were no recording restrictions that we know of. Most videos are from an iPhone or a Canon PowerShot so the video quality, especially inside or in low light is not as good as I would hope for. Some performances were shortened to stay within the 15 minutes KZfaq Video limit. s

Death happens to everyone: I am 74 and my mother died when I was 3, my father when I was 26, and my only living sister in a small plane crash with her son and husband when I was 34; I am now a widow, and my father had 2 previous sisters of mine that died before age 2 before I was born. Dad fought 2 major wars and lived. I now have 2 sons and 7 grandchildren, 2 of whom their mothers allow me to see, because they were not virgins on their wedding days, and their behaviors never changed. Quit criticizing other people's family if you have one quite perfect of your own. All these deaths make other decisions in life to have a bearing on them. I didn't cause all these deaths in my family. I learned how to sort through them with the help of Almighty God.

Yea, I would’ve gone to his funeral if it hadn’t been for covid and I’ve really missed him. Never mind, I’m planning on a Prince Philip memorial and that will be displayed in my bedroom and I don’t want my family to say anything. I was there to see the old Queen laid to rest, and what a moment! All that she stood for, all that she represented. Such history. I choked up as soon as the pipes started, as the Scots escorted this great Lady of Glamis with their incomparable, indomitable style. Commonwealth regiments attended alongside the British ones, just as Commonwealth citizens stood with us in the crowd. I remember the guardsmens’ red coats blazing in the sunlight, buttons polished like you wouldn’t believe, while the family in front comforted the grieving Bobby keeping us safe. I’d recovered, just when suddenly a Lancaster and 2 Spitfires burst overhead, the unmistakable wings of freedom, Merlin engines echoing off the buildings and wing-tips in close formation. The sound of one Merlin puts a lump in my throat, but six.... And a short while later, cheering and clapping. But why? The reaction of the crowd as Queen Elizabeth was driven past. Amazing - you had to be there, and I’m thankful I was. God Save the Queen, God Bless the Commonwealth and its people.

Nobody does a state funeral like the UK, that's for sure. I'm a US Army veteran and while in the service I marched my share of 'dog and pony shows'. As a current US Civil War reenactor, I march in three parades per year. I know a little bit about having your act together in front of the public, and nobody does 'pomp' like the British. Not the French [although they're very good], not the Russians [typically overdone 'gilding the lily' militaristic nonsense] and the Chinese /NK's are worse. Rest in peace, ma'am.

Strictly speaking this was not a full state funeral. It was a Royal Ceremonial Funeral. For example, ceremonial royal funerals are the responsibility of Lord Chamberlain - the most senior official of the Royal Household. Full state funerals are the responsibility of Earl Marshal Duke of Norfolk. Since 1386 Dukes of Norfolk's have been responsible for coronation's and full state funerals. We have not had a full state funeral since 1965, that one was for Sir Winston Churchill. Sadly, no doubt the next one will be for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Only countries with an unbroken historical tradition stretching over many centuries are able to achieve this kind of public dignity and splendour. As a German, I am ashamed that we have nothing like it, having deliberately denounced our whole history as only a prelude to the "Third Reich" and thus cut off all links to everything else. Let me give you an example of how ridiculous our attempts to avoid any sort of grandeur get: When Queen Elizabeth II visited Berlin a few years ago, she, Prince Philip and the German President went on a boat trip on the river Spree - they used some kind of cockleshell whose seats did not even have back rests...
@alexanderlauer4565
@alexanderlauer4565 3 жыл бұрын
@Kate Carney The Germans were not unified until 1870/1871, and even after that the union was incomplete because the Austrians could not be expected to give up their empire (one can even argue that it was as late as Hitler's reign that all the people considered back then to be Germans were finally united in one state). Anyway, saying that the establishment of the German nation state in 1870/1871 "ultimately" led to World War I and the Nazi regime is oversimplifying things, to say the least. World War I had many causes, and its outbreak depended on much more insignificant parameters than the sheer existence of the German Empire. Similarly, the Nazis' rise to power was not made possible by World War I as such, but by the fact that Germany had lost this war, the outcome of which also had nothing to do with what Germany as a state was back then. Victory of this oh-so-doomed and sinister Germany was on the cards at multiple junctions from 1914 to 1918, and victory (or at least a stalemate) it would have been if just a few major strategic decisions had been otherwise (unlike in World War II, Germany had suffered no catastrophic, crucial defeats until the very end when the war was decided on the western front). So before "wiping clean" history, one should remember that it could have been very different very easily and that where we now claim to see a clear succession of causal events, there were mostly just ambiguities and accidents which do not allow for definite moral verdicts. As for Merkel: say what you will about her, her legacy, however, will certainly not be a prouder Germany, but one more divided than ever.

Alexander Lauer, as a Brit who lived in Germany throughout the 1980s I have to say that, whilst I appreciate your compliment on the British way of doing ceremony, you should not be so harsh on your own country. Many (non-Nazi) aspects of German culture are truly wonderful and are greatly appreciated around the world, as is the superb quality of German engineering re tools and machines. I am now living in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the annual German Oktoberfest here, sponsored by the German Business Association, is an amazing experience and a highlight of the year.

You should be proud of the astonishing contribution the German peoples have made to the world. Never mind the art, culture and music, The tribes who left Germany to settle in the British Archipelago brought with them the principles of tribal law which became Common Law, the greatest legacy the English gave to the world because from that springs the roots of the individual freedom that underpins Western civilisation. And before anyone starts, I am a Scot and even I recognise that. Germany was, like many nations before and since, captured by gangsters and demagogues and the tragedy of Germany is that those innocents who perished during the excision of those gangsters can never be mourned without the association to the Third Reich. But even the appalling crimes of the 3rd Reich do not change the immense contribution to world history and culture the German peoples have made.

The day after Queen Elizabeth died; me, my 2009 Woody, my sister, Mummy and Woody.EXE we’re practicing our funeral procession and then slept out on the landing all night all 5 of us did, we did our final rehearsal at 3:25am and the whole of St Julian’s could hear Woody.EXE’s bagpipes which I wasn’t expecting. So the crowds of st Julian’s started gathering at 4am whilst all 5 of us did our final rehearsal and it was on live

I’ve never seen anything like it when an entire crowd of mourners go out just for the 5 of us and then they reunited with us again at Remembrance Sunday on November 13th. I wish Mummy attended this day but she watched us live instead from home. Apparently she told me that Woody.EXE made her cry again when playing the bagpipes to Remembrance Sunday. Remembrance Sunday is definitely one of my favourite occasions

When the Queen Mother passed away in 2002, I was a little boy at the time. Then I saw in the news that "Queen Elizabeth of England died", so I thought it was Queen Elizabeth II that passed away (I'm not from the UK so I didn't know she also had a mother that also was a "Queen Elizabeth"). And when I saw the British monarch alive I thought "hadn't she died? Did the queen ressurect?" After all, I was just a little boy at the time and I thought the Queen had returned from the dead! Only later I realised it was her mother that in fact died on that day and Queen Elizabeth II actually passed away in September 2022.
