@@ebbabas498 if youre playing a losing matchup, but you know the matchup, like how the other character is, confirms, frame data, stuff like that, then its better than someone who is playing a winning matchup, but doesnt know anything about said winning matchup, so, knowing a matchup > playing a winning matchup

@@ebbabas498 basically its when a player is playing a losing matchup (think Pikachu/Little Mac) but the player with the worse character knows how the matchup works better than the player with the better character. Since I used Pikachu/Little Mac as the on paper example, I would say that Peanut's friendlies against ESAM are a really good in practice showing of this saying. ESAM clearly wasn't aware that his top 3 character couldn't use a key neutral tool (Thunder Jolt) against Peanut's bottom three character thanks to the super armour that Mac has with Neutral B. Thanks to this, Peanut was able to drift in with Neutral B and get up in ESAM's face where he could use Mac's insane frame data and kill power to win. TL;DR learn how to win, don't just be content with your character's place on the tier list

When you try to throw out bair against Steve 3 times in a row, I'm pretty sure it's not Steve that's broken, and rather you just autopiloting and not using your brain. 90% of the people complaining about Steve rn have probably never even touched Brawl, yet they compare him to Brawl Meta Knight. Steve isn't very mobile and doesn't have amazing range. That's already a weakness that opens him up to being camped, yet no one camps him because they're afraid of him getting better tools (which changes nothing if you aren't getting hit by him to begin with). Getting diamond doesn't upgrade his range or mobility, so you can camp him all the same. You counterplay him the same way you would counterplay Joker with Arsene. You wait for him to come to you. Also no one is paying attention to Steve's resource meter, and they don't even try to juggle him when he's out of iron. As much as this is memed on, people actually just need to learn the MU (this includes the player MU).

@@bluyuThe one problem I have with this is that Marrs is a world class player. It’s easier to say these things in theory but to actually win and beat the player is different. Whenever I watch light, I’m confused as to any openings you can hit him in. I don’t thinks is pleads can really say much about these top players besides really obvious things, but when it comes to this steve player, I have no idea how to beat him, and neither did the top players, that’s why he won the tournament

Yeah Acola definitely is a major threat. Like he’s 15 and he’s already won two majors in Japan! Back to back too!

Marss plays way too stubbornly and aggressively. He needs to be ok with camping Steve out and playing the timeout game. Steve makes people approach, but can seemingly struggle to approach on his own. MU solutions: play Cloud to aggressively shut down camping or play Hero to counter-camp.

@@flashyturnip7730 mars is generally a confident player, and watching his videos and streams he seems to have great ability to spot weaknesses and capitalise but here he couldn’t do it. Someone mentioned in the comments section that he himself said that he saw the weaknesses of his opponent but couldn’t get there in time to punish it.

@@bluyu agreed even marr’s snake is aggressive. He just doesn’t seem to have the patience to play campy characters. Virtue is great for people. It shows when you don’t have it.

That's because she's faster. Steve shouldn't be able to outrun her, so the fact that Marss kept getting hit just means he was playing too impatiently and picking obvious options (like bairing 3 times in a row). ZSS literally has the tools to camp out Steve, but Marss rarely ever adjusts his playstyle. That's why he loses to Steves, Kazuyas, and swordies. He struggles to play defensively, despite ZSS's capabilities in playing lame.

@@bluyu I agree zss is more of a defensive character. Her aggression isn’t as good as say a fox or a pikachu. Marss needs to slow way down and actually practice the mu

ZSS is one of steve Worst MUs.

Doesn't matter if in theory someone wins against Steve, if you make one mistake and take 60 percent. And then make another mistake and die for it. Like yeah, don't make mistakes, but Steve can lose neutral 10 times against ZSS and she doesn't have any combos like he does.

I don’t think there’s anything we can do. Patches are done and I really don’t like the idea of banning a character and I don’t think there will ever be enough support for that. So we’ve gotta just deal with it and pray people learn how to outzone or something. Honestly I don’t know the matchup at all but I’m sure there’s SOMETHING. Even meta knight and bayo had ways to be beat

@@zerochill4096 mate sure Marrs made mistakes but it doesn’t help he’s fighting against a busted character that also generally takes less skill then the character he’s playing, also through the whole time I watched I felt like Marrs was consistently winning neutral but that didn’t matter cause Acola could just get so much off from one stray hit

@@owenqueen1019 Steve doesn't take any less skill to pilot than most other characters. Arguably, he takes more skill to play as he lacks a lot in the traditional advantages of other characters. The people who do well with Steve understand this and learned to take advantage of Steve's unique advantages while working around his disadvantages. No matter how you look at it, Marss doesn't have the MU experience to take Acola down, and that's what it boils down to; MU experience and adaptation.

I'm going to disagree with you. Currently I think Steve plays a massive amount of success into acola's results. Of course counter play can be developed however it doesn't change the fact that Steve is amazing for everyone's current skill level. Maybe things will change but I'm guessing Steve will make the majority of the player base quit. Of course I don't really know the future but looking at this tournament and reactions in the comment section they see terrible potential.

Acola is still a fantastic player though
