This is Ginger Rogers 83rd Birthday celebration, July 16, 1994 in her birthplace, Independence, MO. The frail Rogers participated in a dedication of her birthplace and childhood home, signed autographs and was on hand for a Ginger Rogers film festival at the historic Englewood Theater. Little could we know this would be Ginger's last public appearance and her last birthday. I shot this historic footage while working for a local TV station and am sharing it now in its entirety for the first time. I hope you enjoy that day as I did and observe how she enjoyed the attention of her fans in the final year of her life. She was a true star and classy right to the end.

Thank you ever so much for this lovely birthday wishes for Ginger's last birthday. It was sad to see such a vital woman confined to a wheelchair but she still put forth her best effort for those who had come to pay tribute to her. I wish I had been able to meet her before she died. Ginger would have been 100 years old this July 16th. God Bless Ginger!!! Rest in Peace!!!

What a privilege to see this. Thank you! I was mesmerised by Ginger from the first time I saw her movies on TV, seems like every Sunday afternoon in early 60s in UK, when I was a child. She'll live on forever through those movies which still sparkle like new!

How wonderful it is to see the immortal Ginger Rogers celebrating her last birthday in her hometown. Truly, Ginger Rogers was one of the most talented and glamorous women in Hollywood and on the stage. She was a shining star up until the last days of her life.

She really looks wonderful, not just for her age. She sounds good, she can stand, and it's really hard to tell she had any strokes. A wonderful, exceptionally talented star!

Oh. Ooooh, she looked so wonderful and beautiful with all those colours. Thank you for sharing this. I was 4 at the time so I wouldn't have noticed but just seeing this now moved me to tears. I hope she's really happy where she is right now and that she's with Fred and that they're all having a good time. Thank you for being here Ginger, I love you and God bless you. ♡

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful video. Ginger may have been frail at this stage of her life, but she still possessed that sparkle and enthusiasm that was evident throughout her career. How right you are. In addition to being a hugely talented star, she was a true professional and mighty classy.

I recall when shooting this video I was working for a local Kansas City TV station and was sent out by myself (without a reporter) to shoot this as a simple voice over. This meant that I was to hang around just long enough to get a little video that would show on the evening newscast and the anchor would talk over it for 20 seconds. Since it was a slow Saturday morning for news, I stayed as long as i could to capture the event. The station did just used twenty seconds of the tape on air, but I kept the raw footage and pulled it out some years later to edit for historical purposes. One of the few times I have done this in my history, but at the time I knew this was a special time that many generations of fans would love to have preserved. Because it was edited some years later from the original tape and edited digitally, it is a much better quality than if I had edited at the time. Thank you for watching.

Thanks for sharing this video. Ginger was such a strong woman throughout her life. A dedicated hard worker in her craft as an actress and volunteered for many causes throughout her life devoting a large portion of her spare time especially during WW2 and Korean War. She looks so beautiful in brilliant coloured ensemble. Had it not been for strokes she likely would have lived well in to her nineties as she was physically fit up until.

Hi Tom I am writing from Malaysia and i have always loved Ms Ginger Rogers even tho i grew up in the 80s, because i saw Fred Aistaire & Ginger Rogers dancing on tv when i was a child, that time, sometimes our tv channel would air the old b/w classics. Because of you tube, i was able to get to see almost all of her movies and i grew to love her even more now. I cannot imagine that you saw her in real life. How wonderful that must have been. Thank you for posting this video because i am a die hard fan of all the old Hollywood moviestars because they are so very classy and so impossibly beautiful.

Thank you for this video of lovely Ginger. She had always been so active in her life...danced, played tennis, kept busy performing, does anyone know why she was frail at this time. Did she have arthritis? Look at her face, she was still so beautiful...and so gracious to her fans.

To my best knowledge, she'd fallen and broken a hip a year or two earlier, and being Christian Scientist, had refused medical care. She's basically living with a broken body, and you'd never guess it. Tough as nails, and such a strong spirit of joy all her life.

Many people don't know that Miss Rogers was a talented tennis player, and she entered the 1950 US Open. However, she and Frank Shields were knocked out of the mixed doubles competition in the first round.

Tomorrow would have been her birthday. So thoughtful of you to post this. She was another of several 'classy ladies' from the Golden Age. Greer Garson was another. Indeed, a privilege for you to have been there to shoot this precious video. Do you know who was the young woman with her who pushed her wheelchair and sat beside her? A friend? Or health aide?

Most people are not dressed up. I think it is kind of rude to Ginger Rogers since she comes from a period where everyone dressup outside their homes.
