I love how Rohan always points out the contradictions because he's a manga artist who wants to perfect his stories and make them consistent with themselves.

I love the fact that Giorno has slides even for when he pretends to be caught off guard or when other characters are asking questions/making arguments, he was prepared for everything.

I like how Koichi and Rohan both find it ludicrous to believe that Diavolo was complacent enough with his incredibly powerful baseline ability as to not think up that many creative applications for it. Y’know, since they’re both friends with OKUYASU, who uses his ability to ERASE PHYSICAL MATTER to make him better at punching things.

I think I actually understand King Crimson LESS than I did before now. EDIT: This was a comedic exaggeration. I knew and still know how King Crimson's power operates.

PLEASE give us more Giorno and Rohan arguing over stand mechanics. There’s so many stands they could argue about and it’s so funny, you totally understand these characters and it’s so funny because I feel like this is actually how this argument would go between them! You’re so talented!

This is longer than the actual Golden Wind But Really Really Fast animation and I find that hilarious.

The way Rohan argues against Giorno really shows how he thinks like a storyteller (being a mangaka and all). Rohan's points mostly come from a Doylist perspective (the perspective of the author of a story, fitting since people often consider Rohan to be Araki's author avatar), while Giorno's come from a Watsonist perspective (the perspective of the in-universe characters). This also makes sense because Rohan never met Diavolo and is far removed from GW while Giorno is, well, the main JoJo of said part (though Giorno's personal interactions with Diavolo was minimal, they still share a dynamic as they're both part of Passione and are basically hunting each other).

so if the first trilogy of JoJo had simple stands, second trilogy has complex stands, then the third trilogy must have stands that are impossible to comprehend Edit: IVE READ PART 8 I KNOW WHAT IM SAYING

Rohan being an author and constantly bringing in Doylist reasoning, despite Giorno desperately trying to keep it Watsonian is a great touch.

I like how each character had their own custom slides ready for this presentation and inserted them in when they knew they were gonna start arguing.

One thing that I really love about this series of videos is that although they’re silly, everyone is still pretty in-character. Giorno is composed until he has to repeat himself and then starts steadily losing his patience, Rohan is an insufferable know-it-all, Koichi is guileless and respectful but also observant and likes to think of his friends, etc. Love that

This had me laughing my ass off. People be explaining "King Crimson isn't that complicated" no no, it is very much complicated.

Also like. Diavolo thought he was basically invincible. If you don't know how his stand works, he can sort of just eviscerate you instantly. I think it's fully possible that Diavolo never tested it out too much because he was just that confident in his ability to win with just punching holes through people the moment his time skip ends. It's very egotistical and in character.

I just love the idea that even several years after beating him Giorno’s gang still have zero clue on how Diavolo’s Stand worked or how GER defeated it, so they decided to host a conference of as many people in the know about Stands as they can find in case they ever have to deal with an ability that bullshit again.

This is like every long conversation ive had with people about King Crimson slammed into one. Diavolos fated actions, the blood splattering thing, people trying to diminish jojos writing with the "either you have to do the BORING thing like PAY ATTENTION to your rules or you look at the pretty colors". Its amazing how you simulated it all so well. King Crimson conversations are really fun

I couldn’t help but laugh at Rohan’s “what if he wore clothes with small sharp objects” because _Rohan himself is wearing clothes with small sharp pen tips!_

I think the soul being a restriction for what he can interact with makes sense and the reason Aerosmith’s bullets pass through him is because a stand is a manifestation of the soul and therefore all parts of it are parts of a soul, including the bullets.

the best way ive found to describe king crimson is "effect without cause" so he can hit you without punching. on the other hand, GER is "cause without effect" so you can punch him without landing a hit

23:55 I mean, to be fair, diavolvo restriction is that he can only skip time untill 10 seconds, not that he has to skip time untill 10 seconds. So a valid explanation of this could be that , since the elevator roof isn't even in the manga, Bruno DID have a reaction to diavolo going in to take Trish, then looked to the side to maybe try to find a way to stop the elevator, only for diavolo to time his ability right at the moment he's fully looking over to basically make him forget that he saw diavolo(or in this case, fated diavolo) in the first place King crimson also technically has the ability to make people forget about what would happen in the 10 seconds skipped so that could also explain turtlereff stairs scene and abacchios boat scene, both of them would be the one to attempt something very in character, no autopilot, but had that action technically be cancelled due to diavolos correct time skipping/ memory erasing

Props to whoever did all the possible slides necessary so Giorno could present his improvised points clearly

I love how Rohan's only role is not only to be a personification of people who still dispute KC's ability, but also just a general overanalyzing heckler (which is kinda in-character for him).

I love King Crimson. It doesn't make sense when you first meet it, makes sense when you think about it a little, then stops making sense when you think about it a little more

The stand bullets thing actually makes sense, because stands are the manifestation of the fighting spirit, and therefore definitely count as having souls. Thus the bullets from Aerosmith, which are never reloaded, are generated by the stand, unlike Mista's bullets which are real bullets, hence why diovolo has to dodge them.

I love how this is one of the most concise explanations on King Crimson there is and it still manages to get across how confusing King Crimson is even with explanation

Diavolo doesn't want to be recognized by anyone. he doesn't want to be found by anyone. carrying a gun would take a long time besides buying things it leaves traces. but now you might be thinking "so you're saying that the diavolo doesn't buy his clothes". maybe. It's much easier to crochet a piece of clothing (like doppio's sweater) than to make a knife, a gun (not counting bullets) or even a spear. It would make a lot of sense for Diavolo to make his clothes rather than for him to buy them with thousands of people around (I believe in Diavolo knitting) [I'm Brazilian if something is wrong I'm using Google translate]

The fact that he doesn't have Sticky Fingers out for this action is strange, but it's at least a *half* reasonable explanation.

This was so much better than I ever expected from the prompt "Giorno explains King crimson" The Koichi segment and Giorno's reaction had me laughing out loud

I love this video because it shows how King Crimson is a simple as it is used in the story by Diavolo It’s just people who MAKE it more complicated while not providing any actual good answers to the question beyond vague plot reasons that cause the confusion

For the wall thing: I'd assume the only way he could make a movement in time is if that movement is a physically possible place for him to be. Within the time that is skipped, there is no possible scenario where he manages to walk entirely around the wall and end up on the other side, thus, skipping that amount of time WOULDN'T permit him to bypass that wall. With the bullets, he IS physically able to be in that spot, so all the time before that is erased and he ends up in his own FATED position.

This video sums up Jojo and Araki's writing, as well as the fan discourse surrounding it perfectly. It shows precisely why that even a seemingly simple ability becomes endlessly confused within the community. You can never tell if Araki has just lost it, and is wildly inconsistent. Or if he is actually a genius connecting all the dots the whole time. I think that dichotomy is exactly why I love the series. HOW DOES KING CRIMSON WORK

No matter how impossible it is, it would be very fun to watch a 1 hour version of this video.

This actually felt like a very short 25 minutes. I have a newfound respect for people who don’t understand King Crimson, there are some bizarre outliers in certain examples I’ve never thought about, ESPECIALLY the elevator scene.

It took this video for the thought to occur to me that 100% of the confusion around King Crimson's ability stems from the idea that he is able to do things IN ADDITION TO whatever he was fated to do during skipped time. If all he did was skip ahead 10 or so seconds to avoid taking damage or prevent being affected by an undesirable outcome, done. Easy. No problems. But the moment launching an attack or taking any action within that window is introduced, it completely falls apart. But this also perfectly highlights how divided i am on King Crimson/Diavolo character and concept-wise. Because being able to do something unpredictable within a 10 second window made for some of the coolest moments in all of jojo. And this divide seems to be the place where people kinda decide whether or not they like Diavolo or Golden Wind as a whole. Its the focal point/threshold of how high someone is willing to suspend their disbelief in service to an otherwise EXCELLENT mob drama.

The quality of the analysis contained in the video is truly impressive... I still think that you missed a few points maybe, but at the same time I have never seen any other video explaining most of the issues related to King Crimson so well, congratulations.

For the spear thing, there is actually an answer given in the text, it's just through character instead of through action in the story. While we are never told that Diavolo can't use spears or knives or whatever weird pointy object you want to use in the example, we are shown many times the person of Diavolo, how he thinks, and how he reacts to things going on around him. There is only one time in the entire story (as far as I remember at least) where Diavolo has a moment to reflect on a difficult fight before the final showdown. This is his fight with Risotto. Diavolo had the opportunity to recognize that even with Epitaph, Doppio was struggling against Risotto. However, since it wasn't HIM fighting, he felt as though he could have simply won the fight regardless. And to an extent, he's completely correct. The time he gets to use time skip, Risotto dies. Diavolo has a massive ego which gets in the way of being able to grow as a fighter (on top of him being the kind of person to avoid fighting at all costs, meaning his competence with King Crimson in battle was rather low). People need to keep in mind, Diavolo is NOT DIO. DIO is always looking for new things he can do, he's pushing his limits to further his status as the best so that nobody could dream of challenging him. DIO always believed there was a higher state to reach because of his Heaven plan. DIO knew that he wasn't at his peak yet and was striving for a way to get there. Diavolo, however, ALWAYS thought he was the pinnacle of creation. He believed that there was no way to keep moving up aside from the arrow, an item he required rather than a method or a way of thinking. It's like how someone might lose in a video game and blame hardware instead of recognizing they aren't #1 in the world. Also Aerosmith is a manifestation of Narancia's soul, his bullets are part of the soul, so there's that too. Either way, minor character analysis of Diavolo kinda solves more issues than I thought it would, but hey, that's the fun of it.

King Crimson, a stand that’s not that complicated once you actually understand it, but it is absolutely impossible to explain.

I feel like the soul thing still works, because Stands are regularly described as the manifestation of someone's fighting spirit/soul, and that's how damage to someone's stand will cause damage to them (depending on stand type, but the default is it _does_ reflect). This would also make sense as to why Aerosmith can phase through him, whereas he has to dodge Mista's bullets, since Sex Pistols control the bullets rather than being the bullets.

I think that the difference between what can and can’t be interacted with is up to what Diavolo interprets as part of himself. Stands are already intrinsically connected to the user’s personality and it seems reasonable that Diavolo would consider his clothes in a given moment as “part” of him and weapons as something else.

A detail I LOVE is that Rohan specifically mentions The World and uses Dio's The World design, but Koichi specifically talks about Jotaro's stand ability because Koichi is friends with Jotaro.

I like how of ALL THE CHARACTERS... Rohan was the one to bring up the possibility that "Araki Forgot" was something that happened with King Crimson. Good attention to detail Reverie!

At 15:35 the question about diavolo moving a different direction, you could have brought up an example from part 6, Where after pucci resets the universe, every human knew their fate, this way Emporio knew that he would enter the ghost room and pucci will kill him, he decided to not enter the ghost room but he slipped on a mop and ended up in the ghost room. Can we all appreciate Giorno's reaction at 13:15 because that made me laugh so hard

I'm going to imagine an alternate reality where Diavolo does, in deed, use spears. He just has them hidden literally everywhere around him at all times, and he's able to pull them out at whim. It's so consistent and unexpected that everyone thinks it's a stand ability until one day they just start finding spears stuck into bushes, or painted to look like tree branches.

I love how lore accurate Rohan is. Of course he would read the pamphlet and pick apart issues with the power set based on realistic scenarios. In universe he would consider all of that before he finished inking one page of his own manga.

At the end, I think Rohan is right. Araki liked how strong Dio's ability was and how much you could do with it so he tried to recreate that terror of someone being able to stop time. But he obviously didn't want to just copy the ability. So he tried to come up with something that is very similar, but different enough, not realising that some aspects wouldn't work anymore. I mean, even Pucci has basically the same ability at the end. He just gets very very fast but ultimately, it's the same thing Dio does, because from his perspective the others are barely moving. And while I think Araki can have moments of brilliance, I also think people really overrate him especially when it comes to terms of foresight with abilities. He is not afraid to change them on the fly if he thinks something works better as he keeps writing. And that has its pros but also cons.

Absolutely amazing video and stunning research. Im glad the problem I found was brought up too. I came into an argument on Reddit where I was confused about the Polnareff fighting Diavolo on the cliff scene which got downvoted to hell just for asking how it made sense (since redditors cant handle critiques to the shows they like) and I concluded that that scene was an error on the animation team's side, where they animated it as if it was The World. It wasn't an issue in the Manga btw, I checked.

I like to think that everything in JoJo functions like how Baeber explains the holy grail war in Fate abridged. Everything follows a strict set of guidlines, rules, and rituals except for when they don't.

To add on to the idea of using a spear with King Crimson, another possibility is that Diavolo saw King Crimson as so powerful that he never thought to push it to its limits. Alternatively having a spear or an outfit made of knives might have attracted too much attention.

So, i always saw epitaphs ability as scrying, which needs a dark area in order to see visions of the future, hence why it worked underground or when diavolo/dupio looked into his hair.

I've always thought about King Crimson's ability as less being able to skip time, and more that that's a consequence of it's actual ability, which is to get to an _effect_ without needing to go through the _cause_. This is also consistent with the thematic nature of it's ability, since the only way to beat King Crimson was with GER, which allows for a cause to happen without the effect occuring, a perfect defense against KC's power.

Rohan and Koichi = two friends you've introduced to JoJo Giorno = The one who introduced them and is suffering the consequences

I honestly love this. Hopefully we can more of Giorno explaining more stuff in the JoJo universe, or something related to that.

Occam's Razor is a problem-solving principle that proffers that if you have two competing ideas to explain the same phenomenon, you should prefer the simpler one. Either Diavolo's time-skip has all these convoluted and arbitrary rules and Diavolo has never attempted to limit test his own ace technique, or Araki simply didn't think it necessary for the story to explain or theory craft the rules to King Crimson's abilites in autistic detail like the Death Note's.

Honestly this video is the best guide on King Crimson I've ever seen. I've seen plenty, and even though the basics (what's needed to understand the story) are easily understandable, the details (what helps up understand the "what-if" questions) are the killer here. I feel like both Rohan and Giorno have an understandable point here. Rohan simply believes the spectacle and movement of the story are what really matters, and that the ability isn't meant to be looked into too hard. Giorno believes that looking into the ability too hard is integral to understanding what all someone can or can't do, allowing for better, more complex abilities in the future. While both sides are flawed in their own ways, I wholeheartedly believe that both sides *not only* hold merit, but are both simply correct ways of looking it. The "point" of the discussion of "How the heck KC work?" isn't to simply be a contrarian or to argue against each-other, it's to help people understand it better. And although the "what-if" scenarios are an important and though-provoking exercise, (much like the video itself) these what-ifs drown out the basic information and abilities that some people genuinely are unable to grasp. All-in-all, this video is great at not only outlining why this topic is so complicated, but also the issues that come up whenever anyone tries to sort it out. An amazing video, Viva Reverie.
