The ORIGINAL Luigi’s Pizza in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY has become an international social media sensation since opening its doors in 1976. Luigi Lanzo, patriarch of the Lanzo family, immigrated to America with the hopes of starting a new and better life for his children. Luigi’s son, Giovanni Lanzo, took over the operations of the pizzeria and is carrying his father’s legacy. Luigi’s Pizza was always a neighborhood staple but rose to social media fame after receiving one of the highest pizza ratings from Barstool’s Dave Portnoy. After receiving a number of viral videos for the dedication to the purity of his pizza, Gio and his pizza are more popular than ever. This is episode 1 of the Luigi's Pizza Podcast, ”Get in the Know with Gio.”

My son and I got to visit him at the store in September of 2023. I told I came 2,600 miles to try his pie. He was so nice, he took pictures with us behind the counter, we let him choose our pie, he served us at our table and he shared the story of his pizza! 🍕 Legend!

This man is a legend. I am originally from Puerto Rico, but lived in NY on the east side. Never got to go to Luigi's. Now, 20 years later, I will get to go this summer. Thank you for your Pizza, sir!

I remember his dad very well. I remember him when he worked at Lenny’s on 5th. Ave. Gio was right. I would work the midnight shift and would go to Lenny’s at 2:00 in the morning and get a couple of slices from his dad. Then in 1973, his dad opened his own store on 5th. Best part? I lived only one block away on 6th. Gio looks good. But I do remember his Mom, Dad and Gio at the store. Man those were really the good old days! Good Bless You and your family Gio!

Growing up just down the block from Luigi’s Pizza in Brooklyn was like having a slice of heaven on our doorstep. The memories of watching Luigi’s father craft those delicious pies are etched in my heart forever. Gio’s dedication to carrying on his father’s legacy at Luigi’s Pizzeria is truly inspiring. It’s amazing to see tradition and passion for pizza making continue to thrive in the heart of the neigborhood I grew up. “The knowledge of growing up with nothing and making things work and last.” I can relate. My dad (90 now) was born in the mountains of Italy. He taught us the meaning of hard work and taking care of things and family. He is one cranky SOB now but when my mom says “ did he say thank you?” I say “ he said thank you a long time ago.”

Loved the podcast! Reminds me of my dad making pizza 🍕 my dad is from Mulberry St.. I've never been back east but I'm gonna plan a trip just to come n eat your pizza pie

my grandfather made pies on Mulberry St. Marconi's was the name of the place!

@@NicholasSatchellCool. There's a couple videos on KZfaq of 30s or 40s era Little Italy (Manhattan) where they pass by Marconi's. I saved the pictures. If you had a picture of their pizza, or anything related, it might be helpful to pizza historians.
