This video feels wrong, literally everywhere in China I go I see people wear Hanfu. It is a societal norm, therefore it's very easy for people to be free.

It is, that's why Koreans covet it's design for hundreds of years. The main design of Hanfu emphasize a left over right fold forming a Y axis. This is extremely different from European or other Asian national costumes except Korea and Japan which copied the design.

There's a big difference between worshiping the German uniform (worn by ruthless soldiers) and wearing a dress (maybe worn by yesterday's enemy, certainly, but by civilian women, not soldiers, not even men) Also, Why perpetuate resentment and hatred? We should not refer to them as "costume", because I think it invalidates them as clothing and demeans this from of clothing. Obviously it was not your intention to be demeaning. But our modern styles of clothing (derived basically from European dress) are not superior, and to call things like hanfu "traditional costume" has the effect of subtly casting them as illegitimate.

@@conbrio27 The subtitles in the video literally say "Traditional Chinese costume" at the 0:12 mark!! So please take up your social justice concerns with the publisher and allow the rest of us to enjoy the video for what it is.

It seems only people who care so much about such details are westerners who are trying to be "white horses" for us "minorities" as if we cannot stand up for ourselves. If there was a problem, we would say, there is really no issue calling it costume. We also say costume when talking about European princess clothes or American cowboy clothes. It is normal to call it that way because it isn't commonly used anymore.

They dont have problems with the hanfu. The experiment is that the dude actor misunderstands it to be a kimono which ig they could have problems with bc of china japan history and relations, and the citizens protect her correcting the actor that its a hanfu not a kimono. Atleast thats what I understood of it.

remember everything that happened in ww2. a kimono is seen as an equivalent to nazi uniforms in previously japanese occupied nations
