Life in the 1970s was special to say the least. As parents were struggling to put food on the table and fill up their gas tanks, young people were busy living their life and living in the moment. Girls especially were busy during this decade, and their lives were filled with moments that were common to many others during this time. So, let’s take a look back at things that all girls did back in the 1970s.

You forgot Dittos jeans, earth shoes, hush puppies shoes, wedges, platforms, puka shells, gouchos (the funnest wide leg calf length pants, in all different materials they looked great with a pair of high heeled boots), mood rings. The colognes didn't end with Love's Baby Soft. There was also Charlie, Jovan Musk Oil, Avon's Sweet Honesty, Heaven Scent. Crocheted bikini bathing suits, (my mother was an expert with a crochet needle, and crocheted mine, saving herself big bucks because they weren't cheap, the cheapest she could find was $26.99 that was a lot back in 1974-75! It was one of a kind, the one she made me. I still have it to this day, but if course don't wear it anymore). Lip gloss became huge, not that other stuff that was just chapstick with flavor, I'm talking about that shiny, shiny tube of pretty colored gloss, and the glass tube with a ball that you'd roll over your lips to make them shiny as heck~the strawberry was my favorite. I miss being a teenager, but even more I miss being in my twenties in the 80's. I had a wonderful decade!

It was a better time, 1970, it was my high school graduation decade! Girl, there were NO cell phones, no answer machines, until later, no Internet, no cable tv, we walked a lot until we got a job and bought our own first car, mine was a mustard yellow VW Bug. My family was a big part of my life, now they almost all gone, just me and my brother and he isnt doing well. 😢 But i loved being young in the 1970's, I'd really hate being young now a days especially after being young back then and remembering how life has changed today... No morals, no manners, no respect for others, never had school shooting, not gun crazy like today, No road rage, no people screaming at each other in stores acting the fool, we all knew what we were supposed to do and did it for the most of us. Fond memories it was a better time on this planet not perfect but better. 🎉 Lets hear it for the baby boomers! Being born in the 50's 🙏

I was an adult in the 70's, serving in the USMC and retired after 22 years. I spent a large amount of time in the 70's in southeast Asia so I missed many of the trends going on with the teens. My immediate family are all gone and I'm the last one so I know the feeling you have about missing them all. I hope that your brother gets past whatever is ailing him and you two get some more years together. My first car was a '67 Firebird. When I got home to the US I ended up getting a '79 Trans Am. The decades of the 50s through the 70s just will never be topped.

This video brought back so many wonderful memories! I was in high school from '75-'79. We used to always watch Charlies Angels and all the girls wanted the Farrah haircut. I wore Loves Baby Soft & Jontue perfumes had only 3 shades of eyeshadow: green, brown and of course blue. We only wore 1 shade at a time and together with Maybelline mascara in the pink tube, a little blush and shiny lip gloss our makeup for school was complete. Here in Southern California, we wore pants called Dittos, Cowl Neck sweaters and earth shoes. We listened to Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Peter Frampton, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner and Kansas. When Punk arrived, it was the Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Television, X, and Wall of Voodoo. There were no computers, no internet, no social media. We lived meaningful & happy lives without them. The 70's was an amazing and beautiful time to be young. Glad I was there!

I also was in high school 1975-79. I am typing this now with the skill I learned in typing class lol. I only wore blue eye shadow and only now realize it was because that apparently was the shade to wear, although it was the worst color for my eyes and face. No answering machines, no internet, not even cell phones... and.... no such thing as a water bottle. Not only did we survive, we thrived.

Yes about all, even the Fabrege commercial! There was also a commercial back in 1970 or so, where the young lady laments "I just washed my hair and I can't do a THING with it!". A popular at that time French actor named Phillippe Juneau (I think that was his name but not sure if the spelling is correct) then states, " Now you CAN do a THING with it!" and goes on to promote a hair conditioner, which, to this day, I can't recall. So funny how our brains retain such superfulous stuff. LOL

Back then, you had more privacy because if you didn’t want to be bothered, you just didn’t answer the phone. You let the machine do it. Then you could hear who it was when they left a message and you could pick up or not. The music was fantastic too. Not like the crap of today. I think the only thing mentioned here I did have was the Farrah Fawcett flip because all I needed to do was brush my hair over the back of my hand to style it. No disco for me. My boyfriend’s mother had an apartment house with a finished basement, my group of friends would hang out there for underage drinking and listening to rock. I was the youngest and didn’t have a driver’s license but one friend did as well as a car. ID checking wasn’t a big thing so it was easy to get into bars, lounges and clubs when underage. Still maintained my grades, still worked part-time, still paid for college as college wasn’t crippling expensive in the 70’s/early 80’s.

A lot of these carried into the 80's as well... In the late 70's/80's I used Love's Baby Soft & Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific. I also was into Tiger Beat magazine in a major way & I practically lived on roller skates. I miss the good 'ol days, they were the absolute best!

What a great fun time for kids. Not for adults as my poor parents were dealing with Jimmy Carter's gas lines and economic problems. But for us it was getting dressed for dances at school, going to hundreds of concerts, going to the mall to buy your records. Lots of home basement parties, huck-a-poo shirts and frye boots. Frampton Comes Alive and Close to the Edge. You could walk anywhere safely and kids were free range. Bonne Bell lip gloss and Seventeen Magazine. Of course Star Wars was everywhere. What wonderful care free days we had.

Carter wasn't elected until 1976. The oil embargo and long lines at the pump were 1973 and 74. So it was the Nixon/Ford lines at the gas station.

Sadly, President Carter had the misfortune of inheriting quite a few problems from the prior administration, coupled with the then-growing issues in the Middle East and his failure to secure the release of the hostages who were being held in Iran; all which ultimately contributed to his one term presidency. In my opinion, he was, and still is, one of the most honorable men to have ever served in the White House.

You got alot. Avon honeysuckle was my favorite perfume, we liked our name combs, and our friends had them too. I am a 70s kid. I remember the shows and movies of the day, Star Wars, Dallas, i also liked Hardy boys and Nancy Drew mysteries on TV with Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson and reading the books. We had AM radios, and Drive in theaters. Grease was huge. We listened to and sang the album on our record players.

Usually you cover everything that was happening in whatever era you are covering n I LOVE watching your videos. This time you have omitted a MAJOR category of the 1970's n I know because I was 13 in 1970 n Rock N Roll was way more widespread than disco!!! I had my walls covered with posters of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Johnny Winters, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Ten Years After, Traffic, Mott The Hoople, New York Dolls, Rod Stewart, the Monkees, Mamas n the Poppa's, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Iggy Pop, The Small Faces, Jefferson Airplane, John Mayall, David Bowie, Jethro Tull, Marc Boland, all the heavy metal and blues rockers n of course, all the Glam Rockers that are the roots of the best classic Rock still popular today!!! We dressed like these bands, studied n lived their music day n night and Alice Cooper was my idol for years back then n Still is today,as he is STILL at age 70 plus in a working n famous band called Hollywood Vampires with Johnny Depp n Edgar Winter!!! These were my idols n I patterned my existence after these bands n their iconic music!!! Please include them n their genre in another Recollection Road endeavor!!!

Right? Who would have thought that music, no less the culture and society it's spawned, would DE-VOLVE into what we have today. At 66, I can't stomach music award shows like The Grammys. It took them till 2024, when she's got one foot in the grave, to showcase an icon like Joni Mitchell, then make a big deal out of it?!

What I wore depended on what mood I was in. Maxi dress with the leather "big toe" opening sandals and "love beads"...or hip hugger jeans and t shirt--my hair was straight and very long and I wore a bandanna on my head and British Walkers shoes. I did wear peasant tops or halter tops and sometimes did a single braid with my hair...no "celebrity" hair styles or short skirts/hot pants for me. I also wore the wooden sandals if the mood struck. Braless if it wasn't a work day...employers would fire you if you wore "hippy clothes"...too radical for work place! Noxema...Herbal Essence shampoo...sweetheart soap...and Ban deodorant...even hippies bathed. My boyfriend (after high school..1971) looked like Lou Gramm!
