Join us for the second part of our tour around Gisborne, New Zealand.
After spending a few days in Gisborne, it was time to get our feet wet over at Dive Tatapouri and feed some Stingrays!
We were all so excited to be up close with these amazing creatures. After picking up our tickets for the guided reef tour, we started exploring the grounds while we waited.
They gave us special equipment consisting of chest waders and sticks and after short instructions on how to behave around the stingrays, we were ready to enter the water.
What an awesome experience! We even took some cool underwater shots! Hope you like them!

Back in town, the girls decided they would go on a shopping spree at the local op shops. They bought a few pieces of clothing, books, sketching supplies, and some jewelry while mom and dad enjoyed a nice cup of coffee at the nearby café.
Our next stop in the area was the Tolaga Bay Wharf which was built in 1929 to give access to ships bringing food and goods. Once roads were built, the Wharf became obsolete and today it serves as a recreational area.
On Saturday in Gisborne, we paid another visit to the local market to grab a bottle of wine and some yummy treats for Geraldine, the owner of the house we were staying at and the mother of Chantal’s good friend in Canada.
She and her partner also own a big farm in the Gisborne area and they invited us over for a tour. Geraldine is also an author of The Undertaker’s Apprentice book which you can order here: www.amazon.com/Undertakers-Ap....
The girls had so much fun at the farm. They chased a run-away goat, learned some new Maori words and enjoyed a delicious quince tart for dessert.
Even though it wasn’t our first time on a farm, we were really curious to find out what sheep shearing looked like!
We jumped in their huge truck (it fit all 7 of us without a problem - imagine that!) and headed to the sheep pens. We literally drove through mud, water, and rocks but eventually, we arrived.
Their sheep shearing skills were beyond impressive! Our host really made it look like it was easy, but it takes a lot of practice to reach that level!
We also didn’t know that Kiwis took sheep shearing so seriously that they have turned it into a sport!
On our way back, in the distance, we saw the Rocket Lab launch complex which is a commercial spaceport, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset at the beach!
We hope you like Gisborne as much as we did and can’t wait to return to this region of New Zealand.
