This tutorial demonstrates the basic functionality of a Git repository and demonstrates how to sign-up for a BitBucket account, create a repository, access it in the SourceTree GUI client and then how to commit changes and see what changes you've made.
The tutorial is done in Windows 10, but should work and be applicable for Mac OS X as well.

Thank you for this! Yea the UIs look a bit different in both SourceTree and BitBucket but the audience watching should be able to figure it out since the options and settings are still all there. Very helpful.

Nice! So, let's see if I understood the basic concepts. To put it shortly: Bitbucket is the online server repository, where we store our projects and SourceTree is the handy tool that we use to get stuff in and out of it. Is that right?

Do you know about private repositories in github?
@eldridgefelder3427

But the private repositories in github cost $7.00 a month. Isn't Bitbucket free?
@phantomapprentice6749
@phantomapprentice6749 6 жыл бұрын
it is free, which is why I've decided to start using Bitbucket for my project even though I have a GitHub account for other projects.. its not that that I'm doing super secret stuff, its just that some of my code is embarrassingly bad and I'm still learning, so with all due to respect for helpful critiques , sometimes its better to have the option to keep a repo private until stuff are cleaned out and polished enough to share with others.

Git has something called "private repository" now. Is this what you were talking about?
