I've owned several tripods over the years as I've upgraded in camera weight and required lower overall weight for backpacking. One thing I've not owned is a premium tripod...something like a Gitzo or a Really Right Stuff. I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on that much money for a tripod. However, as I've started backpacking with my large format gear, I needed something both lightweight and sturdy. I found the best mixture of this in the Gitzo Traveller Series...specifically the GT1545T.
However, this tripod is seriously lacking in some features that I have come to expect from owning several "lesser" tripods. Overall, it holds my camera still but not much else. I don't recommend it for the price.
