Cliffe Knechtle has a good dialogue with students at Texas State University. Recorded in October 2015.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

Cliff did a great job answering all of the student's questions, especially the gentleman at the end. I understand what the young man was trying to say but I don't think he was listening to Cliff's explanation. When the young man said that there was third option outside of designer and chance, Cliff explained very clearly that the option he presented falls under the chance option. If there was a universe before the Big Bang as he tried to argue, it still would fall under the two options: 1) A designer created it and forced it to change in to our current universe 2) Random actions happened and forced it to change by pure chance.

Wow the first three were great! Asking calm reasonable questions and willing to listen. However, the last guy is exactly why I'm convinced that there is a systematic failure in argumentation against God. Notice how the last guy contradicted himself by claiming the universe is eternal and yet he doesn't know. Well done Cliffe, coming up to Torrington, CT this Christmas. 12:40 It’s easy for soldiers to say “I won’t kill people to keep gas prices low”. But how much does a soldier(sold dier/soul dier) know about the orders they are taking. Order followers are created to do just that, follow orders. They exist at the bottom of a enormous, violent hierarchy. They generally don’t have the ability to know if they are on the offensive or defensive. They are “JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS”.

The guy at the end just learned a new word and wanted so desperately to appear intelligent by using his new word that he never took the two seconds to understand it and ended up looking like an idiot. Where are these grains of sand coming from, how many grains will be required to make this hill of sand that we ultimately end up with, what caused the grains of sand to stop flowing at just a "hill or mound" Just two choices to all of those questions, and even if all of the evidence points to chance, that does not mean it was not designed to look like chance by an vastly superior intellect, "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous" Albert Einstein

In regards to the last guy talking at the end about the universe ... I would recommend the book, "Who's Afraid of the Multiverse" by Jeff Zweerink. Even though I have not read it, I can see hits upon precisely the argument the boy was trying to make ... which is even our universe was itself not created by God, and is one of just many. However, the multiverse (ie the machine that pumps out universes) is still suspect to being created by God or there are physical objections to the multiverse. The multiverse is a gimmick used to undermine the cosmological argument.

If the absurd multiverse hypothesis turns out to be true then literally everything is possible. Interestingly, the multiverse may even actually support the ontological argument for a supreme consciousness/God. Is the multiverse hypothesis a valid explanation for the fine tuning? If so somewhere out there in a parallel universe Christopher Hitchens is Mother Teresa, Richard Dawkins is the Pope and Billy Graham is an atheist. Because given an infinite amount of time and infinite multiverses all things are possible including “that of which nothing greater can be conceived/mind/consciousness/God” (Anselmo d’Aosta). Fact is, the multiverse extrapolates known physics by at least 13 orders of magnitude (in energy) beyond what we have tested and then adds unproved assumptions, like strings and inflatons. That’s not science, that’s math fiction. Equally, It speaks volumes that the physicist and father of string theory Leonard Susskind who’s coming from a non religious perspective recently admitted that the present inability of physics to explain the fine tuning of the universe that is essential for life appears to leave an opening for a Designer. “I have to say that if [string theory fails], as things stand now we will be in a very awkward position. Without any explanation of nature's fine tunings we will be hard pressed to answer the ID critics. One might argue that the hope that a mathematically unique solution will emerge is as faith-based as [Intelligent Design].” - (Leonard Susskind the father of modern string theory)

God is ETERNAL, therefore His character is eternal and His commandments are eternal.and because His commandments are eternal they are also absolute, they are objective moral characteristics. If God took His finger and wrote the Ten Commandments then they are eternal, have always been. Not only that but He also shaped our conscience around these commandments. How do we know that? Because although we don't always listen to our conscience but our conscience knows that murder is always absolutely wrong. Society therefore has been shaped accordingly, which is evident in the laws thereof. All you have to do is look at the law of man, everything that God established through His, emphasis on His, objective moral law! If you believe that one they're not the same or two our law was established before the Torah then you are not being intellectually honest. You can say well man wrote the Torah but if you know the nature of man why would he set absolutes? Why put limits on what they can do, after all, without God all morals are relative. If I want to kill who is anyone to say that I'm wrong? It's all relative. I have my opinions and you have yours. By the way, do these things sound familiar lol? I adopted some of these saying from Cliffe. Thanks bro! But yeah, we would be seeing a whole different system if ma was truly the author of the Bible!

Its a bit of a contradiction to say God is angry with dead-beat dads but he isn’t pleased and smiles upon those who do good that they learn to do from the wisdom of God. Grace shows you the limitations of human goodness, we are ransomed because we have been given life and we can’t give ourselves eternal life or forgiveness but God expresses a desire for us and teaches us to learn to work, labor, and do well.

How do people in the 21st century still believe Bronze Age myths?
@georgedoyle7971
@georgedoyle7971 2 жыл бұрын
Awww how quaint the “bronze age” argument versus the belief in the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness/monotheism/deism/panentheism. I prefer the tooth fairy argument myself with Dwayne Johnson in lead role. This is nothing more than an (appeal to ridicule fallacy and the Stone Fallacy), including rhetoric, a straw man argument and an ad hominem. If only you could have been around during the time of Michelle Besso, Francis Bacon, John Henslow, Dostoyevsky, Kepler, Newton, Thomas Aquinas, Anselmo d’Aosta, Miguel de Cervantes, Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, Augustine, Emanuel Kant, Descartes etc you could have saved them all from their misguided belief in the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness/monotheism with your Earth shattering “Bronze Age” argument. Evidence and citations please not (Appeal to Ridicule Fallacies)!! I’ll wait!! “Bronze Age” That was comedy gold!! I’m not making any appeals to authority but the irony is that a strictly reductive materialism, atheism or philosophical naturalism basically says that (nobody took no time to turn nothing into everything) a belief that at worst is synonymous with the belief in magic!! and at best it’s synonymous with the belief in myths and miracles!! I don’t need secular myths and secular religion to know what right and wrong is. You do so the burden of proof is on you.

You don't necessarily have to thank your parents for bringing you into this world and giving you life because you never asked them to, obviously because of the very fact that when they decided to do what was necessary to bring you into existence, you weren't there, so it's not something you had a say in, you CAN thank them if you want, sure you can, that would be your prerogative to do so but you're not under any moral obligation to thank them for anything you didn't ask for, when they or whoever it was that looked after you when you were too young to look after yourself, they did so because it was their responsibility, so again, you are not obliged to thank them, it would be your choice to thank them if you wish. The same goes for God, if there is a God and he created us, he brought us into existence but it was his decision to do so, not ours, once we are in existence and we are at an age of reason, if we asked God to do something for us and he does it, then, yes, we would be obliged to thank him for it, eg, if I asked God to make me super rich and he makes me super rich, then I will thank him for that and it would be only right for me to do so but if he caused me to be born super rich, I don't have to thank him for that because I didn't express the wish to be super rich prior to that, he just made me that way. Maybe I would want to be rich, most people do but that's not the point, it's a matter of principle, if you give someone something they haven't asked you for and they don't thank you for it, it might seem rude but they have a right not to thank you for it and you have no right to be upset with them for not thanking you, assuming God exists and I still don't know that for sure, the only time I will thank God for something is when he does something I have asked him for. Like, if I ask him to show himself to me to prove he exists and he does, I will thank him for that, if I ask God to get me a house and he does, then I will thank him for that but if God gives me something I didn't ask for then it's up to me whether I thank him or not, especially when I have no way of actually knowing whether it was God or not anyway, if I get something good happening, then I can only presume it was God, if there is one but how can I know?, where's his signature to say "this is approved by God"?, I see none of that, for all I know, everything I have ever had might be coming from Satan, again, presuming there is a Satan and I might be thanking God for something he never gave in the first place. If God really has given me anything and he wants me to thank him for it, then first of all, he needs to prove his existence to me which he has so far failed to do because I am still not convinced, although I keep an open mind about it, secondly he needs to confirm that it was him who gave the thing to me that he wants me to thank him for, thirdly, I have to feel that it is something I would have asked for, if it's not something I would have asked for, why should I thank him for it?
@bonnie43uk
@bonnie43uk 7 жыл бұрын
Well said John, also you can look at it from another perspective, millions of people are born into this world in terrible circumstances, they lead miserable, painful lives through no fault of their own. Most of us living in the Western world have much to be grateful for, we never experience such things as pain, starvation, war, and illness brought about via things like malaria. It's a sad fact of life that for many people, not existing in the first place would be preferable to living. That's the harsh reality.
@georgedoyle7971
@georgedoyle7971 2 жыл бұрын
“Why should I thank him for it” Why not just be kind to other people anyway John? I think your getting confused because your focusing on a very narrow understanding of gratitude and worship that’s based on religious stereotypes. This is very common as the internet is littered with anti religious propaganda and fake news that promotes religious stereotypes including bigotry and intolerance making caricatures out of humans who have the same cares, worries and concerns as everyone else. Everyone has doubt because life is so absurd but if you are genuinely loving and show empathy and compassion to others that’s all the thanks that is required. I can’t see the problem with showing gratitude in this honest and altruistic way because it’s a good way of having humility and learning to value humans in a positive and constructive way. It’s in our best interests as it creates a stable, equal and caring and fair society that is based on valuing each other for what we are as a person instead of a strictly materialistic society that values people based on how much money they have, on how much status and power they have or on how many powerful and physically attractive people they can control and manipulate. I think that unconditional positive regard and being kind to each other is the only thank you that is being asked of us John. I hope that makes sense.
@JohnCashin
@JohnCashin 2 жыл бұрын
@@georgedoyle7971 Yes, in general it makes sense but when it comes to having justification for believing in the existence of some invisible, intangible, undetectable being that I should thank for everything, that's a different ballgame. To me, that makes no sense and would be irrational. The rational thing would be to withold such a belief and just keep investigating to see if there really is any rational justification for belief in such a being and so far, there isn't. The existence of God is at best a matter of opinion and debate, not a fact like some think.
@Skylerrelyks93
@Skylerrelyks93 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnCashinyou won’t get the justification you are looking for until you come to God. How can you possibly when you are unable to see the work He has done in your life? He surely has given you many gifts already that you have given credit to the wrong persons. I wasn’t able to see His work in my life until I was low. One day i was at the beach with some friends, I just sat thinking about my life. As my thoughts became more negative, it was like a flip switched and I started to think about all of the positive things that I had going for me that I knew I didn’t really deserve. A family that loved me, friends that kept me from being lonely, a job, a roof over my head, and so much more. I truly deserve none of these things. I realized that I was content and I don’t need anything more and everything I needed was provided for me. Then in my head I thought “thank God.” And my vision erupted into what i can only describe as a kaleidoscope of rainbows and I was enveloped in this all encompassing love like I had never felt. I tried blocking the sun with my hat to see if my vision would change, but it didn’t change back to normal until one of my friends interrupted me. The feeling of love has never left me. This was almost 2 years ago now and before that I thought Christians were crazy, but now I’m thankful for every day I wake up because I can see God working in my and everyone else’s life. I truly pray that you will one day be able to see all that God has done for you in your life.
