Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

Cliff, you spoke at my school occasionally, CHS, in Trumbull, when I was younger (maybe 20 years ago). I turned away from Christianity around ten years ago. Christian apologetics forced me to decide to follow God or disavow Him. I've been drawn back to Him. I always appreciated what you do. Thanks for doing what you do. It does make a difference. I've been studying apologetics ever since I came back to Christ about 6 years ago. It has become A profound Passion of mine.

GraftedOliveBranch Faith is more than understanding. The Bible says to be careful how you hear. Those who have will receive more, but those who don’t have, even what they appear to have will be taken from them. I think this means that if you hear the truth and reject it as the word of God, or understand but still choose to ignore it, that you will lose faith and sooner or later become reprobate. This is a danger even for Christians who refuse to live after Christ (those who will call him Lord and say what they did in his name, but who will hear “I never knew you”. I hope he heard, accepted, and applied. It’s our responsibility to pray for those who hear the gospels.

WISHBONEL7 There seems to be 3 reasons in scripture that opposes the idea of being tortured in hell in perpetuity. 1. They perish in hell 2. God destroys both body and soul in hell. 3. The wages of sin are death. 2 Peter 3:9King James Version (KJV) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Matthew 10:28 King James Version (KJV) 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death." Revelation 2:11, KJV "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." Revelation 20:6, KJV "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14, KJV "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8, KJ In opposition to this we have their worm perished not. And the smoke of their torment Revelation 14:11 King James Version (KJV) 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Mark 9:48 King James Version (KJV) 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Clearly it’s not clear. It could be either way. Either burning in hell forever. Or eventually getting destroyed in hell. If we factor into the equation some wisdom we will wonder why would God deem it so necessary to have people in hell in excruciating pain for trillions and trillions of years. Year upon year. It doesn’t seem in keeping with the justice of God. Therefore maybe it’s appropriate to say that God probably does destroy them in hell. I don’t know about you but it would tend to ruin my day in heaven if I knew there were souls writhing in hell in excruciating agony forever and ever and ever. But that’s just me. Maybe you are cool with that.

If we take into consideration that we believe, what should be easy to believe, but we wouldn’t be able believe, the easiest of things to believe, namely God, without the gift of faith from God. It’s because the powers of Satan are so strong they will overcome and overpower us unless God intervenes. However God only gives the gift of faith to those whom He knows will be faithful and true. Therefore let’s not forget that it’s not up to us. It’s up to God. Although really it’s up to the individual. And based upon the individuals decision to be either for or against God, will depend on whether or not God is for them. Sometimes when we are perplexed by those who won’t go God’s way, let’s not forget that if God isn’t giving them the gift of faith it’s because He knows that it’s not going to do them any good. Therefore He passes that soul by. It’s up to God. Not us. But ultimately it’s up to the individual. Pray for those with fervent prayer for God to spare those whom you love. Your prayers might be part of the plan. Part of the whole enchilada.

@paulwilfridhunt

doug nut Yes God knows what you’re having for breakfast tomorrow and actually he knows exactly to the nth degree what you’re going to do tomorrow minute by minute. God allowed Satan into this world allowing him to tempt us to rebel against God. God knew that we would become greater creatures if we could eventually overcome the temptations and join forces with God. But God knows that if He doesn’t help out those whom He knows will turn to Him, if the circumstances are just right to do so, they won’t be able to turn to Him because the powers of Satan are too strong. Therefore God arranged the life of those whom He knows will turn to Him, so they can, But God doesn’t bother with those who are never going to turn to Him. No God doesn’t threaten us with hell but He warns us of its dangers. He uses hell as a place to eventually punish the mutinous rebellious angels who rebelled against Him and also, whilst we are not absolutely sure about this, But it looks like He will eventually destroy them there along with those people here on earth who told Him to drop dead. God doesn’t need love or worship. He’s not hanging out for it. He commands it because He knows it’s the only way we can begin to synergise with Him and join forces with Him and eventually become one with Him. I’ll send you another post that covers the other issue you raised about God ordering genocide

doug nut All religions with the exception of Judaism and Christianity, which did come from God, although to a large extent have been hijacked by the mind controllers, are essentially just glorified witch doctors to control the people to bring order to society and protect the Status Quo. Some of these control mechanisms from ancient yesterday were very crushing and they created the most obedient people to the State. They invented one particular religion to do this. And this involved having to throw your first born child into the fire in a sacrificial ceremony and listen to it scream to death as it died in the flames. This religion crushed the people. You might say how could such a thing happen? It happens. We know that they killed 6 million Jews 75 years ago. They killed little girls. Little boys. They killed women and girls. They just killed and killed and killed and they wouldn’t have stopped killing unless we stopped them, which we did. But those ancient religions that sacrificed infants were much more brainwashed than the Nazis who were only around for 10 or 15 years. These pagan people who sacrificed their children had been going for yonks and the rot had set in. They all had to be destroyed otherwise from the ashes another Hitler could have risen up and restarted the whole thing wanting revenge for the killing his brainwashed child killing parents. Yes God told the children of Israel to destroy them all but it was necessary. That’s how bad it was in those days. If you want to say you know better than God then ok say it, But God knows best even if you think you know better.

@@kaufmanat1 Stan, have you given that concept of eternal hell, and it being conscious some serious thought?.. I can't think of anything truly more horrific than being locked into some eternal damnation/punishment that had no end. Stan, think of the biggest number you can envisage in your head.. whatever number you come up with, in terms of years, that number pales into insignificance compared to eternity, it would be like a drop in the ocean.. I cannot think of any single human being that has ever lived who would deserve such a punishment that went on in perpetuity with no chance of respite or relief, not even Hitler himself. Some serious wrongdoers here on earth are certainly given extremely harsh sentences.. but at some point, that person will die and his pain will mercifully end. Eternal hell is a human concept that people haven't really given serious thought as to the real ramifications of what that would entail If God exists, and he truly IS a God of mercy, eternal hell would be something he would ensure would not exist.

@@bonnie43uk hell is something I've spent a significant amount of time considering. Eternity certainly is a long time. I have considered that a lifetime (about 80 years), is less than A drop in the ocean for eternity. It certainly seems unfair. The only way I can think about it, for it to make any sense, is for hell not to be where God sends sinners as punishment. Hell is what we choose when we don't choose God. Hell is for those who would rather be their own god, rather than follow God. Will there be an option to opt out? God only knows. Will eternity be a steady state? God sent his Son to die once. I have no idea what His plans are for eternity. He may provide a new option later. All I know for sure, no one will be looking at what God is doing and saying it isn't fair or that it isn't justified...

@@kaufmanat1 Well, you say "Hell is what we choose when we don't choose God", For me, I haven't seen any credible evidence of God, no part of me would choose to go to a place of eternal damnation, that is a horrific thought. If God is a God of love and forgiveness, and we're told he is, then no part of him would create a place in which his creation would suffer for eternity. As you may have guessed, I'm a non believer... raised as a Christian, but gradually came to the conclusion that there probably isn't a God, and that it's down to us humans to make this world a better place, if belief in a God helps you in life, that fine with me, regardless of what God you believe in. I believe this is the only life we have, so it makes it more precious that we should make the most of it while we're here. The idea of infinite punishment for finite crimes is abhorrent. We who ask others to be real must be real ourselves. Are we being real? No we are not, when we refuse to acknowledge that it’s because of fortuitous circumstances that, be it Paul from Tarsus, or Cliffe from the campus, or a Haitian in a shack, that we are the believers that we are, because of the help from God in the form of predestination. Let’s argue with each other but not with the Bible. The Bible alerts us to the existence of predestination. Why? Those of us who have been on the road for quite a while, recognise that they could have missed the boat, missed out on their salvation, if they didn’t have the life that God gave them, which made their repentance possible. Presumably God predestinates because He deems it necessary. But he doesn’t predestinate all. Why would He predestine one and not another? Why would He choose one and not another? On what basis would this be? Would it be because of their good looks? Or maybe it’s because they keep their rooms tidy? What is the reason? And why does He do it? Is it not logical to conclude that He does it because it’s necessary? Could it be that if He doesn’t predestinate some then none will be saved? Here is a possible answer which seems to make a lot of sense. The tempting powers of Satan are so strong that unless God helps out those whom He knows will turn to Him, by arranging their lives in such a way that they can repent, then without this arranging they actually won’t be able to repent. On this basis none would be saved without His predestination. Maybe we don’t know absolutely for sure who will and who won’t go all the way with God. But this we do know. If we aren’t predestined we can’t be saved. Obviously God only predestinates those whom He knows will go all the way with Him in grateful loving obedience. And whilst it’s possible for God to do anything He won’t do the wrong thing. He won’t predestinate one against their innate will. To do so would be wrong. There are going to be people who never hear about Christ, maybe lost tribes in the middle of the Amazon jungle. But nevertheless it’s not going to come down to whether or not they hear the gospel or not, although surely God will see to it that those whom He has predestined will get the gospel message; But instead it’s going to come down to whether or not they are predestined, which might mean some of those in a shanty town in Haiti or a smattering of people in New York City. The bottom line is this. We as evangelists are looking for those whom God has pre-chosen because only these can be saved. I think it’s ok to preach predestination and explain to people and say hey if in actuality they are someone who ultimately is going to turn to Christ then they are going to do exactly that. Now or later. And if they never do it’s because God didn’t help them to do it because He knew they weren’t really going to be up for it. Let’s tell it like it is. Let’s be real.

Is predestination like determinism?
@paulwilfridhunt
@paulwilfridhunt 4 жыл бұрын
ONESTEPAHEAD I actually don’t know what determinism is but thank you for asking. I’m not really a scholarly type at all. I am an uneducated person. However it seems appropriate that I should be lumped in with the class of the thinkers. Nevertheless it seems quite clear to me that what I know of the Calvinists view of predestination doesn’t seem right. Apparently my view is called the Armenian view. I’m not sure but I think the only difference between me and the Armenians is the reason why I believe God predestinate. And I think that’s because the powers of Satan are so strong that we can’t even repent unless God helps us to do it, by predestinating or orchestrating our lives with a life that makes that possible. But He doesn’t do this unless we are those who will repent. And those whom He knows won’t repent and go all the way with Him, He does not predestinate.

A man named Rick went to the University of Vermont encountered a campus evangelist much like Cliffe Knechtle. I respect Rick because he had GUTS of which I often envy. He challenged the campus evangelist with one question that made the evangelist back down. His challenge went like this, "If I believe the gospel message you are preaching to me can you give me a 100% guarantee that I will go to Heaven?" To his shame the campus evangelist backed down, plainly & sheepishly said "no". If a campus evangelist is teaching or preaching a message that does not include eternal security then what basis can you trust that you will go to Heaven if he cannot trust that even the preacher himself will go to Heaven? Can someone say they stand or fall 99% on Jesus Christ and 1% on my staying on the road between the guide rails? In Pennsylvania we no longer have GUARD RAILS. We now have GUIDE rails. The difference is a LEGAL TERM because a car cannot crash a guard rail but can a guide rail that is designed not to guarantee a vehicle to stop from going over a steep hill or cliff but rather keep a vehicle sliding in certain bounds at only certain angles & speeds if veering off. No one can sue the State or the company that made the rails if their car went over the cliff in spite of the rails for false advertizing. If at any time I believe in Jesus I become His property regardless of how I behave or what I say do or think. Pastor Rick over time eventually believed & taught that once a man properly believed & placed their faith in Christ alone & His work alone for salvation that they would become from that point on eternally secure from that point on with an unconditional eternal security that thereafter did not depend on what they did said thought hoped or were motivated by. The only unpardonable sin therefore was ONE SIN ALONE of OMISSION of believing not any sin of COMMISSION. The initial faith in Christ had to be CLEAN FAITH in that initial trust had to be without regard to our works which at best could earn a person a reward post regeneration but never secure, assist or become a requirement for securing or earning one's entrance into eternal life which had to happen at the new birth. Being an over comer is different than being saved. Living a Christian life is different than being a believer that Jesus with His work alone is enough. After that Rick came under mentors which followed the basic theology of Lewis Sperry Chafer of Dallas Theological Seminary. The first serious pastor I ever encountered was Pastor Dean Nale of Northgate Bible Baptist church. He also came from the school of Dallas Theological Seminary. This man taught me that our relationship to God was like being born. If you get born you cannot become unborn. If you are born into the family of Smith you cannot cease to be a son or daughter of Smith. That was relationship which is like steel bars holding us eternally secure in Christ. Our fellowship was compared to a spider's web or a single piece of fine thread. Fellowship could be easily broken & was difficult to secure. Living a Christian life is like following a delicate thread through the maze of this world. Relationship once properly secured as a free gift where you stopped offering God your works of righteousness, your life, your devotion, your substance, your time your talents etc in exchange for salvation but rather received His gift through one time belief was impossible to escape once secured. Pastor Rick likewise would get up on the podium & warn you that if you never believed & you still want to go to Hell do not ever believe for once you do there is no way out of the new birth or the adoption or the baptism into the body of Christ. Pastor Rick also would get up & recite a whole lot of Gospel errors that false evangelists preach as saving faith. These included terms such as commit your life to Christ, Surrender to Christ, Get water baptized dunked or sprinkled by every formula in every stream lake & ocean out there, walk this aisle, raise your hand, take communion, join this Church, have sorrow or remorse for your sins make a lying or impossible to fullfill promise to stop sinning, make a public confession or profession, invite Jesus in to your heart into your life or whatever, pray a prayer. In fact a person could get saved WHILE SINNING if they heard & believed the gospel during whatsoever it was they were not supposed to be doing. Repentance was not turning from sins but rather to change ones mind about the Person and finished work of Jesus Christ, His person birth life mission death resurrection ascension session intercession etc. For well over 40 years or more this man taught this doctrine faithfully and took painstaking measures to exegete it from the scriptures. Unlike many dispensationists, Rick also taught that works were NEVER a requirement for salvation only faith alone in every age and dispensation from Genesis through Revelation. Unlike Scofield dispensationalism, He taught that in every age there were many commandments appropriate to that dispensation and many inappropriate to whatever economy you were regenerated into but salvation was always eternally secured by faith alone. I hate to admit this but after 40 or more years of faithfully teaching this doctrine that faith alone was necessary to escape eternal punishment Pastor Rick began first to teach a partial preterism instead of pre mill pre trib disp, then veered into conditional immortality ie. the annihilation of the unbelieving then finally landed on the square of a form of Trinitarian universalism that would save all mankind during the regeneration of all matter in the universe including Satan, devils &and demons. Therefore I tell you salvation had better be without regard to works or none of us can be saved including Pastor Rick or Cliffe Knechtle. During those years which Pastor Rick preached the Dallas doctrine (with a few twists) my joy just soared into the zone approaching ecstasy at times. I was even healed of a serious mental illness though Rick dont preach healing. After he began to teach doctrines that were so strange to what he previously taught, I finally got tired of it & left the church of Pastor Rick & never came back. For me to say the man is unsaved is to deny that grace once secured is without regard to the works it may or may fail to produce. The grace of God will never fail us but we can fail it & run off the road & go into the ditch or over the cliff even into rank heresy. If at the end of whatever life we, who had cleanly believed, live, do not enter Heaven, then is grace still grace though we the losers secure no reward? Can therefore someone who has produced works appropriate to a Christian faith have never been saved? Yes if their faith for salvation was never in their thinking without regard to the works their lives may or may not produce be they good or evil. We can even look at men such as Billy Graham and see where he was going astray also. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oruTgMphtd_aqI0.html We see Ravi Zacharias and the devastation he left behind www.christianitytoday.com/news/2021/february/ravi-zacharias-rzim-investigation-sexual-abuse-sexting-rape.html The principle remains: Though no sin is ever justified all sin is paid for in Jesusand made effective for those that have believed.

The documented miracles of apparitions and healings have been best recorded by the Roman Catholic church. If you discount their findings at the time, you can decide based on their having educated experienced people there who examined before and after. Ultimately, it takes faith because of our own failing. We don't have the ability to put God in a box and judge. That's blasphemy. It's one of the worst ways to sin. You can get books about the documentation of witnesses and doctors etc who attested to the events they witnessed. They do not enjoy proving things for non believers before they have a chance to believe as God would have it occur in them.

Reuben Lyimo The thing is Reuben is that Jesus says to fear him who can destroy the body and soul in hell. Matthew 10:28 King James Version (KJV) 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. For those of us believers who are prone to be thinkers we might be inclined to wonder why God deemed it so necessary to create hell in the first place. But apparently it is necessary otherwise He would not have crested it. And although we might not fully appreciate in its entirety God’s reasonings for the creation of hell, however we can conjecture or kick around are few ideas as to the why of it all, can’t we. This is some thoughts I have on the subject. I think maybe He created hell for 3 reasons. 1. To punish 2. To destroy the soul 3. To bring souls to their senses before destruction. God destroys the soul but He doesn’t do it until the soul eventually comes to its senses by completely recognising their utter foolishness for opposing God in whatever format that was in, be it atheism or disobedience. But if God should destroy the soul before it comes to its senses when it’s still maintaining its right to not worship God, it will result in a contamination of the atmosphere. And as God is eventually going to completely eradicate every trace of sin from the universe He has to make sure that the indignant attitude harboured by the impenitent towards Him is also eradicated. Perhaps souls in hell initially will be cursing God but this has to stop. And when it eventually stops, when they allow themselves to realise they have been deceiving themselves, then God destroys them as though they never existed. When the flood came everyone wanted to get on the ark. They then believed. But nevertheless they still would have liked to have won. They still would have liked to have been right although they knew they were wrong when the flood came. When they go to hell they know they were wrong but they still would have liked to have been right. But it’s not until they allow themselves to realise that they were wrong for wanting to be right in their opposition to God, that God can put them out of their misery. One way or another people will come to their senses. Obviously it’s better to do it now rather than letting the torment of hell do it for them which it surely will do.

Cliffe has said many many times to the students he converses with on-campus that we need to read the gospels of Matthew Mark Luke and John as historical narrative, the problem I think comes when we read tales of supernatural magic, it gets a little hard ( for me anyway) to accept that is historical narrative. There is no evidence from what I've experienced in life over 6 decades that magic ( things which defy the laws of nature) occurs. I don't know of too many *historical* events that involved verified supernatural occurrences.

If someone actually reads the new testament, they would become an atheist. It is obviously not about a god, just another preacher that thought the world was going to end soon just like preachers are still claiming today. Why would a god behave like Jesus did? If god wants to know he exists, why not give us some evidence?

Theres plenty of evidence. You just have to search for it. All of the creation screams that god exists. Jesus was doing miracles and teaching like no one ever had before. Had thousands of people follow him around. Also to really understand new testament you have to read the old one where theres a lot of predictions about Jesus. For example read Isaiah 53. If you really think god doesnt exist its because science/teaching conditions us into not thinking about things and looking around. Nothing doesnt create something

Science teaching has taught me to look around, precisely the opposite of what your religion has done to you. You seem to only be looking around in one book. If you think the entire Bible is the word of a god, how do you explain the support of slavery? Do you think your god is in favor of people owning other people? I was able to quickly go through your list and point out what is wrong with every one without spending much time at all. You are like a child who believes everything they've been told but the person telling them is lying to them. You can't even tell me why you are a Christian and not a Muslim or Hindu or any one of the thousands of religions. Do you believe in Thor or Zeus? If not, you know how I feel about all claims of gods. Bring some evidence. Imagine something you don't believe in, like maybe a dragon in my garage, and ask yourself what evidence would you need from me to convince you I have a dragon in my garage. So, in my many posts and repeated questions no theist has ever demonstrated why god was so incredibly immoral by: 1. Not creating a world where no suffering ever happened...either for humans or animals. The choice to create suffering by this god makes it barbaric 2. Punishing billions of people with death and all the suffering that goes with it for the sin of one person...Adam. This is also an unspeakable abomination. The story of this bible is of a god that has displayed poor design judgement and given that theists claim that this god is all powerful and omniscient, the fact that this god chose not to eliminate suffering demonstrates this god is not good and the story is a lie

Its impossible to create a world without suffering if people have free will. Would you want to be a robot who has no control? Does God cause the suffering? No. We do. Everyone has a choice to do good or bad but most of the world prefers to live in selfishness and without caring about others. I was doing it for a long time aswell and still struggle to care about people. Everyone has a free choice to either turn to god or not. God allows people to do bad things and allows everyone to learn from their mistakes and repent.
