You want to be careful when fully submerging your inner-slide in water. I'd recommend against doing that. Inside the top of your inner-slide is cork that stops the trombone making a 'clangy' sound when you come all the way into 1st position. The cork helps 'soften' the slide when you come to first position so people can't hear the brass hit the top of your slide. If you get that cork wet, it can disintegrate and fall out, and then you'll need to have it replaced.

Last month, I had to give my trombone a bath because it got mud (yes, MUD) in it and was un usable. This was after an hour in the band hall with my assistant BD (a trombonist) before I just had to give it a bath. It was FILLED WITH mud. I'm sure my horn has flashbacks now😂

Thanks for the video. I just bought my son a new Yamaha trombone and the dealer specifically suggested giving the instrument a "bath" at least 4 times per year. They said that this would prevent the need for chemical cleaning and extend the life of the horn.

The only thing I'd change is that taking the tuning slide off too is good to make sure that it gets cleaned where you apply oil

I remember this year I’m a trombonist and by the end of the school year we had one kid that broke the Spit vowel we had a kid that has gone through Two trombones and then that kid her slide The slide didn’t come out so the band director forced it to come out and wipe it off the towel and we were laughing at how gross it was
