LEGO Trains TrixBrix Tracks in Action and their R24 problem. I've been having great fun adjusting my train layout with the aid of my new ‪@TrixBrix‬ junctions. But that's not to say it wasn't without it's challenges, especially those R24 corners I was warned about... Watch on to check out my update LEGO Train Cargo yard and experience with TrixBrix's 3D Printed LEGO Train tracks!

About this LEGO Toys Video:
This follows on from my previous video where I had just received my track and I was explaining my plans for it.
Here, I've been playing with it and using it to redo the layout in several parts of our LEGO City. It means that the train yard now has 3 sidings for cargo trains thanks to that 3-way switch. The siding for passenger trains is now a little bit longer (and neater).
But those R24 corners, when you use more than one, can cause havok on the trains. As you can see in this video, it results in one carriage leaning and then derailing - impressive!

Watching you talk about layout and geometri makes me remember my old HO-scale model railroad... now I want trains in my city too... damn you Greg 😁😁 Thanks for sharing. Keep building 👍 Love from Denmark.

I have to say, when I did the track it popped into my head, and I have to say, it looks awesome! Now to figure out what I need to build the proper version of it that can take the 16 stud long containers properly as I'll have 4 of them soon!

The layout looks great with those three tracks! Very nice! And, very nice to get an in-depth view on these custom train tracks. Maybe if you make shorter train carts it will counter the effects of the sharper turn!? Thanks a lot for sharing this and keep up the great work :-)

I think there's an optimal length. Too short or too long and you hit problem unless you can turn the wheels a bit. But, i'm going to do some tests on it to figure out the best versions for it!

Yep! Which is why I ordered my next one that was on sale today :) I would like a bit more length for the sidings though. Trying to figure out where I can expand out to add some more sidings but as you can see, I'm already using most of the space I have.

I hole so. I’ve changed my layout since this so the goods yard is smaller. But I’m thinking to do something big but also use the style of the old 165 or 4555 cargo stations.

seems to always look nice in the mind when it comes to creating like a lego train in the city for example. once you start building you may come across a tiny issue. thats the thing about imagination and lego. usually its fixable. its cool that you can still use those tracks at least.
@GJBricks

They work superbly for keeping the junctions tight. But in batches, noooo.... Going to run some test on different chassis types to see how they perform! You're so right though, it's always fixable! less of them and a piece of flexi-track and we're good!

Would splitting the r24 with normal lego curves fix that issue? Ie r24,lego ,r24,lego. I've got to get one of those 3way splitters . I've been tempted to get but shipping to nz costs
@GJBricks
@GJBricks 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! I actually used a single r24 with the junctions and seemed to work fine, so your idea might work. They sell on eBay too, but think shipping is the same. I’m probably going to order some more soon. Just figuring out my layout.

Are you going to put a road under the cargo crane to load trucks from the train cars?
@GJBricks
@GJBricks 5 жыл бұрын
I'm going to have road across each end, then I'm thinking ramps up onto each platform that's between the three tracks. Idea is the crane can unload the big stuff onto the slip road to the left. That's my current plan anyway!

I have indeed! It's great and goes perfectly round the standard LEGO track. I've used it on the out track of my city loop for my faster trains to use. Great quality and moulded rather than printed so closer to LEGO's tracks.

What about putting a couple of technic plates under the longer carts to allow more turn?
@GJBricks
@GJBricks 5 жыл бұрын
I'm going to have a play with different sizes and techniques to see which works well such as single wheels and length. Adding some plate will make it higher buy should give it enough turning circle. Another option is brick building the truck - or using the pure flat bed ones without the dipped section.

The R24's would be great for mining trains with very short wheel base

At 2:15 it looks like the TrixBrix tracks do not really match the LEGO dark bluish gray. They look darker. Is this an issue?
@GJBricks
@GJBricks 5 жыл бұрын
It is more of a dark grey than the blue grey. Which is a shame, but can be minimised with some track ballasting. Let’s hope they solve it in the future unless there’s some reason they can’t use that specific colour such as for legal reasons perhaps? But given the problem it solved for me, I can live with it being slightly off
@hntrains2
@hntrains2 4 жыл бұрын
R24: you would expect that kind of problem when it comes to longer cars, wouldn't you? Such curves are too tight - even LEGO's own, larger R40's are too tight! The crane is already higher than usual; how much higher do you reckon you will go? It is quite wobbly as it is. That could be fixed easily, though: see the problem solved in the spiral here: tinyurl.com/y4jcaocw (and a detail in this image: flic.kr/p/21YXZ7h ). Nice place, your LEGO City room section!
@GJBricks
@GJBricks 4 жыл бұрын
That crane isn’t staying like that. I was just playing with it. Will probably go with a combination of those pieces and. Technic. Strength and width. I kind of love how over the top it is though! What do you reckon? And the r24 works if you only use one piece. I’ll show it in a proper video on using it with the junctions. Messes with the geometry slightly though. And I love that spiral! He’s building a new version of it at the moment too
@hntrains2
@hntrains2 4 жыл бұрын
@@GJBricks, the crane looks all right - it looks functional and ready to handle cargo. It looks real. If you are planning to add an operator's cabin, as it seems (top right), it will have everything it needs to actually start loading and unloading. I can think of situations where a tighter curve, such as the R24, could come in very handy. Geometry could be a problem, indeed, especially when attempting to integrate one of more pieces into an already existing track layout, but solutions should be available (I am thinking of flexible track, on the one hand, and of TrixBrix's own series of short straight track parts, on the other hand). Do you think there will be a time when your city is finished? Will there be a time, that is, when only minor additions and changes will be necessary? If so, how close - or far - is that moment in time?
