Glacier Peak, otherwise known as Dakobed and Takobia by Native Americans, is the fourth tallest mountain in Washington and the second most dangerous. It has produced some of the largest and most explosive eruptions in the history of the Pacific Northwest. Of all the large stratovolcanoes, Glacier Peak is the most isolated. Most climbers require several days to reach its summit. We were fortunate during our mid-July trek and climbed through the clouds at 8000’ to be greeted with bright sunshine and a view that made you feel on top of the world. The awesome experience of climbing Glacier Peak is hard to describe in words, and something we will cherish the rest of our lives. We hope this video gives you a window into this world.

Wonderful! Long trek! The final summit push didn’t look as tricky as Stuart’s.

It was long, but very rewarding! Yes, the final push to the summit is much easier than Mt Stuart, as you are climbing a pyroclastic flow that is much less steep.

Wow! At the top I was looking for a crater like the one that exists on top of Rainier (Glacier did last erupt 13,100 years ago…not that long ago) but there was only snow to be seen. Is there one underneath somewhere, do you think? That first musical selection sounded amazing! I’m always excited when I see a new posting on your channel. They are always well-presented.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them! Glacier Peak does have a crater, but it has erupted many times more violently than Mt St Helens. What stand today is just a small portion of its once much taller cinder cone and the crater is deep underneath.

Well made video and gorgeous scenery, thank you for producing and sharing! May I ask how the crevasses were for you?

Thank you! Glad you liked it! We crossed one 1ft crevasse opening on the Cool Glacier but it was mostly tame and filled in. This was over a week ago so things could be different by now.
