I was on a flight from Toronto in 2001 and the guy in the seat next to me was Derek Jacobi. An absoluite gentleman, He struck up a conversation and was surprised when I said I knew who he was. But I remembered him primarily from I Claudius and had forgotten he was in Gladiator when he asked if I'd seen it!. FYI; Caracalla was a bit of a twat. He had his brother and all his followers murdered (estimated 20,000 people) His wife and her brother murdered. He was arguably responsible for the treachery that saw his father-in-law executed.

Germans made a serie few years ago. Barbarians. It's about Arminius and the Teutoburg Varusbattle. Fantastic story.

I've been saying for years they should've made a prequel about Proximo! What he did in the past, how he became a slave, how did he become a gladiator, everything he did to win his freedom and then how did he become a slave holder and fight his slaves in the arena? Marcus Arelious would've been in the movie, it would've been epic! And even better make it a miniseries instead.

I don't know how anyone who saw the original Gladiator would think that this sequel would be good. When I first heard about it I laughed and went on with my day. They need to stop with these awful remakes and sequels.

Before 2016, I'd have been hyped. But the dei revolution has put MEGA caution before every new movie.

Why? Why did they feel a need to make this movie? Obviously woke politics will be pushed into this and honestly the cost of this is crazy. If it cost $380 million, not even including promotional costs, this will need about $750 million to break even, if not more. The first movie ended perfectly, no sequel was wanted or needed.

There are so many epic stories that could be shown on screen and yet they have decided to beat the dead horse once again. Lack of creativity, knowledge of history and simple self esteem is staggering in today’s Hollywood.

It ruins the immersion. Why can’t Rome just look like Rome?!? It’s not racist to exclude POC from your casting when the setting is in ancient Europe for f*ck’s sake! That’s called common sense, not racism. The Rings of Power & The Witcher did this too. It’s so awkward & embarrassing to watch as a black person bc you know they’re doing this to virtue signal about diversity, not to tell a great, believable story. Please stop doing this, Hollywood. Caracalla was a real emperor of Rome during a period called the Crisis of the Third Century. This period of time almost led to the fall of the Roman Empire. Caracalla did rule with his brother Geta, but not for long. Geta was killed by the Praetorian Guard (basically the Secret Service of ancient Rome) on orders from his brother. He was best known for the construction of the Baths of Caracalla (though he probably didn't actually commission them) and for the edict that gave Roman citizenship to all free men living in the Roman Empire, something that had never been done since Rome was founded. ...in case you were wondering. :)

In the original movie Ridley Scott changed the script and opted to kill Maximus to prevent the movie from being ruined by pointless sequels.

Some said the same about Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954) the sequel to The Robe (1953). Regardless, the sequel was a massive commercial success. I'm willing to give Ridley the benefit of the doubt as he has made some good movies recently, such as The Last Duel (2021).

I don't know if you are in the know but this film has been getting incredible reviews from those who have seen it. I think a lot of folks are going to be very very surprised when this is released.

In Gladiator they had trapdoors, yet in Gladiator 2 they show a naval battle. Naval battles happened BEFORE trapdoors in the Colosseum. As soon as they dug tunnels under the arena, they could no longer have naval battles.

They should've set it in the future so it's like a mad max world where they fight other warriors, robots, mutants, and monsters. Gladiator 2: All or Nothing

Denzel crossing over from Tony Scott to Ridley is pretty awesome. Denzel is an actor that has always chosen his roles and productions wisely. No woke stuff and no selling out. Him in this is honestly intriguing, as for the rest of the movie, why???!!!!!

Emperor Caracalla and Geta were brothers, but they were not twins. A movie about Caracalla, a terrible tyrant, could be interesting, but tying gladiators to it misses the mark entirely.

$380 million dollars is a lot of money to throw at a movie that doesn't need a sequel. What would've made a good movie is Rome Going through the Dark Ages with the Black Plague. That probably would've been cool to watch. I'm a bit reserved on my opinion. The formula sounds very much like the first one, mixed with Game of Thrones, The Spartacus graphic novel mini series and the 300 movie. A prince becoming a slave to becoming a gladiator and becoming Rome's Emperor sounds a little ridiculous.

While I get this was for it's time an "all time great film" yet I think this was also a film that benefited from physical media sales, VHS and DVD because you go into second hand stores and like Titanic those copies are everywhere. So in this day when physical media isn't a thing anymore and many projects don't make their money back even after streaming you have to ask the question is there a chance this film does well.

You can't even call this a "money grab" when the film is pretty much guaranteed to lose money.

The armor could be clean since sand won’t stick to it. If a gladiator’s face is sweaty and he goes to the ground, the dirt/sand would stick, but fall off plate armor. There’s issues to be had with this movie, but dirty armor isn’t one of them.
