This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, released in 2022 and directed by Rian Johnson. Benoit Blanc is a character I love and Daniel Craig plays him so well. Even though I enjoy the first movie more, this one was such a fun time trying to figure out what was going on and I still had a blast! Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

My favorite detail in this movie is how they describe the Mona Lisa and her facial expression. How it changes based on your mood, not on the paintings. Helens face in the end is exactly the same. Like its kind of a smile, but also kinda not.

It really is. Miles is on his shit about "No one wants you to break the thing" and that's perfectly exemplified by the Mona Lisa. In a vacuum, no one wants Helen to set the painting on fire, but it works because it completes Miles' downfall.

Hugh Grant cameos as Phillip, Blanc's domestic partner and Joseph Gordon-Levitt voices Miles's clock, the Hourly Dong; Several celebrities make cameo appearances as themselves, including Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury, Natasha Lyonne, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Yo-Yo Ma, Jake Tapper, and Serena Williams. Sondheim and Lansbury both died before Glass Onion was released, and the film is dedicated to both of them.

I really like how Glass Onion uses layers. It's set up during the puzzle box sequence (by Yo-Yo Ma of all people 🤩) with the concept of a musical fugue, where the melody is played back over itself to create a new tune. When the window breaks (pay attention to the motif of glass breaking), the story switches from Benoit to Helen, and the whole plot replays with a new follow character - giving new meaning to what we saw in the first half When we see the shot a second time, the POV is back on Blanc, unraveling everything we have seen, until he hands a glass to Helen along with the means to destroy Miles. Upon breaking her sister's glass, Helen begins a rampage that brings down her sister's killer and destroys the ostentatious Glass Onion. Layers, like an ogre 😉

a great thing to catch, like how you did spot Duke's phone in Mile's back pocket is that you CAN also catch him briefly placing the gun down in the ice bucket when making the drinks after the dinner. AND in the initial scene Miles does hand the drink to Duke. the first flashback of him placing it on the table and it then being picked up is different but the actual scene playing out the first time doesn't cheat it. you just get distracted from it and then told otherwise (and shown otherwise in said first flashback)

In the flashback from Helen’s perspective, we see her toss that recording device into Birdie’s handbag. But also, if you go back and watch the original scene from Birdie’s perspective, you can actually see the recorder go in (her hat takes up most of the screen, so you almost have to go frame-by-frame to see it; it’s easier to see the handbag jostle as it lands inside).

"not here" guy is Trooper Wagner in the first Knives Out, the Thrombey fanboy, played by Noah Segan. And the "GONG" is voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who also was in the first one as the detective screaming "We have the nany-cam footage!" on the laptop at Marta's at the beginning of the movie. Both actors appear in all of Rian Johnson's movies I believe.

03:47 I remember the first time I watched this movie, I found it interesting that this woman was covering her hair. Because often, black hair especially can say a lot about a character. I took a mental note of it. Later we see her with that slick partially blonded cut and I was like 'oh, she must've been bleaching or coloring her hair in the first scene. ' Little did I know I was actually on to something. Also I love her introduction with the hammer! Disrupter from the very beginning.

The term "Shitheads" gets thrown around in this film in reference to Miles' followers. They help him screw Andi out of her share of the company to stay in his favor, which is morally wrong. But consider the final scene, after Miles burns the napkin. At this point they all know: (1) that Miles actually murdered Andi in cold blood, and (2) that Miles murdered Duke, one of their own, in cold blood right in front of them. That they are still hesitant to call out Miles at that point (until the Mona Lisa is burned and he clearly won't be wealthy and powerful enough to help them further) makes them accessories to two murders. Uber-shitheads! Also, Derol was brilliantly used here. From the first moment he continually tells everyone that he's "not part of this" yet the audience can't help but assume that he must definitely be a part of this. Love it!

Oh my god I forgot just how fun this movie is, I'm so glad you loved it too! Just a pure delight, I can't wait for the next one! I also like the first one more, but that's the problem with unprecedentedly clever or revolutionary works: you can't recreate the discovery of something new. You can do it again, and it'll have all the qualities you love and be just as good, but I've already fallen in love with Rian Johnson's storytelling and Benoit Blanc. I don't think it's any shade on this movie to love the first one more.

Dave Bautista is easily my favorite wrestler turned actor (with John Cena close behind, but I haven't seen much of him) Obviously he's hilarious in Guardians, but he's a brilliant satire of right-wing manosphere influencers here, my favorite Beast Rabban, and fairly scary in Spectre (also with Craig) despite his silence. Dave is also really funny in Hotel Artemis, with Jodie Foster and Sterling Brown. It's a near future cyberpunk crime thriller that is pretty overlooked.

I think Knives Out may be a “better movie “, but Glass Onion is a way more entertaining (to me). Much sexier cast. Funnier situations. More relatable circumstances. Darryl was also the cop in Knives Out. I love how Miles’ malaprops were like splinters in your brain as the movie went on. A lot of reactors would hear him mispronounce, or improperly use a word or make up a word and their brains would note it, but not necessarily wanna correct it.

I guess it's a natural reaction, so please take no offense, but I hate "Was this one better?" comparisons. Both of the movies are great, with brilliant writing, directing, editing and acting from all involved. They are both better than most other films of this genre. Unfortunately this will happen with the third film, "Wake Up Dead Man," as well...

I actually like this one a good bit more than the first one. The satire of the “genius” tech billionaire that is actually dumb (an Elon musk type along with many others) feels more contemporary and fun to me. All of the stereotypes just feel more contemporary to me. Batista playing the dumb joe rogan/alex jones right wing conspiracy guy. Kate Hudson as the social media influencer that thinks they are being cancelled because they do dumb shit like blackface. Kathryn Hahn’s politician that takes money from these tech billionaire and is now in their pocket. All of those things just feel more of what we are dealing with today. And I like that over the original’s “old money” rich family. I think the twin sister reveal halfway through is brilliant and such a fun way to go back and recontextualize everything that had happened to that point in the movie. The original feels like an old school Agatha Christie style movie and this one has more of a twist in the way it tells the story that I think makes it feel so much more fresh. I love it

I've seen the theory online that it's a hint to the audience that the painting is a phony -- that the French government took Miles' money and loaned him a fake, figuring that the clueless American billionaire would never know the difference. Not canon, of course, but it is amusing to consider.

Great reaction like always love this movie. What I find so great about this movie is that in most whodunnits, you have a smart protagonist, surrounded by not so smart people. In Glass Onion, you have a dumb protagonist, surrounded by smarter people. I think it’s genius. I just now realized another hint that Miles is dumb - right before his "murder" he started to say "As Watson said to Holmes" and the end has to have been supposed to be "The game is afoot" which is wrong. Watson doesn't say that to Holmes, Holmes says it to Watson. Fun fact: When the Mona Lisa burns, you can see that it's on canvas. The original, however, is painted on a wood panel and is also smaller than the painting seen here. So Miles was not smart enough to know that it wasn't the real Mona Lisa that the French Government leased to him. Noah Segan, Trooper Wagner from Knives Out, is Derol (I believe that's how it's spelt), and has been in every Rian Johnson film (and at least one TV show he directed). Keep up the good work. And i have a question are you gonna react to the rest of Ocean 11 movies?

I preferred the first, but still really liked Glass Onion. My main hangup on Glass was the cuts, like the glass switch. I saw Miles hand the glass and then when he did his recap flashback to Duke picking up the wrong one, I was like, wait, wait, I swear that's not what I remember, am I crazy or did they just have a continuity error? That bugged me up until the reveal stage where the flashback was shown to be misdirection. I appreciate that they tried to make it so you could see what really happened if you watch closely, but when they also show a fake version as if it was real, now you've got 2 different versions the movie has suggested are truthful. Unless this is the rare movie where it is established that what the camera shows is unreliable, usually you are supposed to be able to trust camera view as truth. The recap helps the inattentive remember what happened so everyone doesn't have to rewind 5minutes. If you break that then all of the recaps suddenly become suspect, which is not what they want as the rest of the flashbacks actually happened as shown.

The movie literally shows you Miles handing Duke his own glass, but it's at the bottom of the frame, and Birdie Jay starts twirling her multi-color dress just as Miles is about to hand over his glass, so that catches your attention and most people miss the glass hand-off.
