Today we shoot some glass shotgun slugs created by Sam. He made 4 of them and we will see if they will not only survive the intense shock of being shot out of a gun, but will actually hit what Gregg is aiming at.

I have granulated obsidian in my knee from a bicycle accident in the 70's. I lived in NE Ohio, and the county would spread it on the street we lived on in the winter for traction, as it was a steep hill. In the spring, it would have collected in 'puddles' on the concrete, and I would speed down the hill then lock up my coaster brake on my bike and skid through it. I dumped it one day, and my mom did her best to pick it all out of my kneecap, but there's a lot still in there. Good times, the 70's.

***** go out and shoot some birdshot at a 3a vest. Then some buckshot. Then a slug. Can guarantee you none of those make it through the vest. Can load whatever you'd like into the shell and not many things will pierce a 3a vest since you defeat armor with velocity, and anything from a shotgun is usually about 1200fps, rarely above 1400fps. So in all, you eluding to anything from a shotgun being armor piercing? Wrong.

When they hit, they seem pretty devastating, but it definitely depends on the screw/nail configuration within keeping the slug intact AND whether or not the tip hits. The fact that these things, when intact, tumble through the air like that means that you've got a good chance of them just doing blunt trauma instead of actually penetrating. Not to mention how much potential energy may be lost by the spinning action as well. If there were a way to make these things more aerodynamic, and keep them going straight, they could be quite reliably devastating.

Yeah, for people saying "just as deadly as lead" or some other variation. No, the glass is in fact extremely deadly. Yeah, an internal fin and spike shaped like this [|] to engage the rifling and hold the glass together slightly better could make hitting the target easier. If you get it just right it could even get you a close while still shattering, to get plenty of shrapnel in your target to ensure their death. As it is though, it's an effective way of getting a soldier off the field while still draining your enemy's medical resources, with no chance of them coming back to duty and a high likelihood of dying not long after you take over.

The glass projectiles ARE beautiful and well made. THANK YOU for making this video. (A note for the narrator, Shotguns DON'T HAVE rifleng...They are smooth to shoot shot. A rifle, IS a rifle because it has channels inside the barrel with a twist, to start the bullet turning around to make it more stable in flight. I believe that they DO make a 12 gauge rifle though, so if the fellow shooting HAS one of these guns, I apologize.) If I'm not mistaken, there is an international Law against making and having glass projectiles because of the internal damage it makes. Tiny slivers of glass shred your organs and put a person in agony. I believe they were banned years ago, because of that...if I'm not mistaken.)
